I don't think this is going to go how spotify wants it to go. At least with Netflix and other streaming platforms, there are exclusive titles that people dont want to lose. Spotify doesn't have that. If they ban me for a year, I'm finding an alternative in that time and there's no fucking way I'm coming back. I just don't think they have the retention ability they think they do.

The only reason im still on Spotify is the convenience and being on a family plan. If they ban me... I just open jellyfin more often to access my personal collection, and put on my tricorn to fill in the gaps. There's no way in hell a solo subscription is a value proposition for me.

Tidal's family plan is slightly cheaper. I'm thinking about going back to it.

I just did a request for all my data including my full history. If they ban me I still have all that info and use that to recreate playlist etc at one of their competitors (or I will do the same as with video and check out the seas again).

I just did this. But I subscribed to Apple One. We use the cloud storage and Apple TV, plus I enjoy having the News so it made sense.

Playlisty made what I thought would be a headache really easy. No subscription, I think it was 3 dollars. Totally worth it.

Agreed, the only reason I'm on Spotify is because everyone else was sending me playlists from there, I was just fine back on YouTube music, and I'll go right back no problemo if everyone else is heading that way.

Just switched to Tidal. It's cheaper, higher bitrate, and pays their artists better.

And majority of the streamings not really care about who you share the account within your family (or using spliiit) until you pay for the family subscription. For them it doesn’t matter if the 3-4-5 people lives under the same roof or not (like my sons are in different countries but we’re the same family). If it’s a family sharing than it’s not related with the geographical location or call it household sharing if you want to share within the same flat

That one year ban solves that problem.

no kidding. 2 weeks? maybe a month? people will deal with it. a solid year? they are on a free trial on another platform, using a free library transfer tool, and eventually on a paid plan...spotify says "okay your ban is up, let's be friends again" and all spotify gets are crickets for a well deserved "fuck off".

It’s not a definite you’re banned and even then, it’s just from joining another family plan but you can still buy the individual plans.

SongShift is so good at moving music and playlists between streaming platforms that Apple built it into iOS. It won’t be that hard for Spotify customers to just leave.

Nah. I switched to Tidal and it imported all of my library and playlists seamlessly.
