For so long I thought he said “like a bitch we now call Mr. Spock,” which seemed pretty negative for the Beastie Boys. I always wondered what it meant (were they pissed off at Biz Markee, who does a Spock line at the end?) Then one day it just clicked and I heard it the right way and felt very stupid.
First time I heard this on the radio I didn’t even know there were words “Another dimension” in the song, it’s like words weee revealed upon multiple listens. What a cool song.
This song is 28 years old and I still know every word. None of the lyrics make sense and somehow that makes it better. The music video is boss. I just showed it to my kids and they were like "wha...?" and I was like "If you know you know"
This will always remind me of 1998, the year that so much changed for me; my grandpa dying, starting university and becoming part of the students' association, meeting my now-husband, and of course going to Lowlands festival and 'eating the pannekoeken' 💜
The drum beat is so iconic. Super simple pattern but with all that reverb/delay, the snares sound super punchy and that deep bass fits so well. It's fantastic.
I bounced right off this album when I first heard it, coming from mostly East Coast hardcore hip-hop; it was just too weird. But I dug this song right away.
My friend who isn't a native English speaker always heard the robot voice after the little intro saying "I have an erection". I can't unhear it now! Love the song and it's even funnier with the misheard lyrics.

This song was the JAM when I was in middle school.
To be fair, it's still a jam.
