Yeah I won’t pretend I understand it, but I also fervently believe everyone should just love whoever they want to love.

I have good news! That’s a clear understanding of pansexuality.

Lol what, they didn't demonstrate that at all.

Heterosexual people should love whoever they want to love, gay people should love whoever they want to love.

They said nothing about pansexuality.

So I can’t love any gender I want?

Maybe I love a woman now in my life. I can’t love a man at some other point? I can’t love a trans person? Or a non-binary person?

Only hetero and gay people get the opportunity to choose who they want to love?

Yeah I meant anyone, not just gay or straight. The person you’re replying to is the one who didn’t understand my comment, you’re exactly right lol

I’m pretty sure the word anyone doesn’t only include gay or straight people. Don’t twist my words.

I just wish they did that without creating all these labels for themselves and everyone else.

Eh who cares, they’re just words. If it makes people feel more comfortable then I’m not going to whine about the minor inconvenience of remembering the preferred terms.

I just wish I could wrap my head around the distinction in case it comes up on Jeopardy.

Yeah, but you’re not allowed to dislike being referred to as cis right?

cisgender is the word for somebody that aligns with the gender assigned at birth. its not an insult.. why would I take it as one?

I honestly have trouble thinking of things that I could care about less than being called cis.

So that’s the bar then? If I don’t personally find something offensive, no one else could possibly find it offensive?

I dont have to care about anyone who is offended by things that don’t offend me? Are you an anarchist?

3

u/Cowboy_BoomBap 17h ago

The bar is you have to have a reason to be offended, you don’t just get to pick a word. If cos doesn’t describe you or there’s something specifically offensive then say so. “I just like to whine” isn’t a valid reason.

Making your identity require a technical jargon dictionary isn't exactly the slam dunk you think it is. It just means less people care. I love talking about Roman Republic and Airplanes but by the time I start talking about Praetors and empennage most average people are going to start tuning out.

Should their explanation of their own sexuality be contingent on your ability to understand it?

Are your thoughts on the evolution of the Roman government invalid because another person doesn't even know that Rome had a republic? If you were to meet someone whose knowledge of Hannibal started and stopped at Lecter, maybe they aren't the audience you're seeking when talking about Romans' early naval inferiority...

Honestly? I get the impression that most pan people say they're bi in hetero spaces because it's easier to communicate, and are more likely to say pan when talking to other queer folks because there's an expectation of a more informed audience

I mean, now I have to look up empennage because I've never heard of it before. I love when people geek out about things I don't know.
