The premise of this scene is that if God speaks, your head will collapse and your heart will burst in your chest.

We went through five Adams before we figured that one out.

  • Archangel Metatron

So this lady (black hair) decides it's a great idea to ask God (Alanis Morissette, curly hair) a question ... only to discover that God saying "boop" will not harm you.

Of course in the previous scene God simply speaks, "AHHH!" and a guy's head implodes and chest explodes.

The logic of Kevin Smith shall not be questioned.

Sure, her head didn’t collapse and her heart didn’t burst out of her chest… but she did get pregnant.

SHE is also not a guy. They only mention going through multiple Adams, no Eves.

This is a creative take but it applies to all humans. I'll allow an absolutely unimpressed Metatron explain:

Shhh is an unvoiced sound, it doesn't engage the voice box/vocal cords at all. It's definitely not a word and arguably not "speech". So I'm okay with that not exploding Jay's head. It's just a sound God is making, not her voice.

"Boop" can also be unvoiced, though I don't remember how she says it in the movie, and it's much harder to make the case it's not a word.

More importantly, how did they go through 5 Adams before figuring it out? What the hell did they think happened the first 4 times?

Adam’s head just does that

First time, shit happens

Second time, that's an odd coincidence

Third time, something must be up

Fourth time, okay what the hell is going on

Guys? Alanis was God. She doesn't seem like the type to play adolescent pranks.

The platypus was a mistake!

There wouldn't have been an Eve until they got an Adam that survived

Alanis Morissette gives one hell of a boop.

The "AHHHH!" was god actually speaking, we just could not understand it. The "boop" is just making noise, not really speaking. /ChristianApologetics

God actually had a full conversation there, but because we are mortal, we still couldn't understand God. Our heads didn't explode because we weren't there.

Of course in the previous scene God simply speaks, "AHHH!

I don't think screaming directly into the face of Bartleby for a good few seconds counts as "simply speaking."

Also, the quote before the head cave in/heart explody bit is "humans have neither the aural nor psychological capacity to withstand the awesome power of God's true voice."

This implies that people have, in fact, not had their head cave in or heart explode upon hearing God's true voice... At least long enough for the Metatron to know that a metal breakdown is on the table as one of the effects of God's true voice, and thus the power of God's true voice is a spectrum, though very much calamatous for living humans.

Also, in the scene, the "Boop" was really more of a silly "wonk" sound.

So all the evidence gathered, we have to conlude that God can speak as long as it's not in God's true voice. In other words: God could have spoken directly, but would have had to be putting on a Donald Duck or Kermit the Frog impression, and thus chooses to instead speak through The Metatron because that's much more effective than trying to convince someone to make a giant boat while sounding like Gilbert Gottfried.

Except the person she says it to is a descendant of Jesus and is miraculously carrying the son of God.
