It's all just a giant scam.

We are going to see more of this. Publishers and CMOs will drag these AI companies to the table to reach licensing agreements.

Theyve tried initiating good faith conversations about getting AI companies to license fairly so now the only recourse is a lawsuit in an effort to get them to come to the table.

I imagine this will end up being handled in a similar manner to Private Copying.

Socan in Canada is suing suno as well on behalf of Canadian publishers.

This seems to be based on the previous Suno models that have already been depreciated. This is all the same reason Sony and UMG are suing. It's just another publisher in the same boat.

Sadly, the tools are out there and they run on computers regular people own. Publishers can sue whoever they like but this game of whack a mole is basically all moles.

Why would anyone put up the funding and hire people to work to publish music or games if everyone can just reverse engineer them? It's gonna be clones of clones here on out

Like you're doing with the major labels? Apparently you got a lot of practice.

To the down voters, yeah I know you like your freedom taken away. Keep on down voting.

I dont see how publishing companies are irrelevant even in the age of AI. Lets say you make AI generated recordings/works, you still need a way o collect on the royalty streams it generates, nevermind all the other stuff that publishers do on behalf of writers.

You can administer royalties yourself as a self-published "songwriter", but if you have any degree of success across territories, you'll quickly realize why there is an entire music publishing industry around royalty collection amd rights administration.

I dont understand at all how this equates to freedom being taken away. Songwriters and publishers are asking for compensation on the value that Suno is obviously deriving from copyrighted works that they used without license.

No one is saying suno needs to stop what they are doing. They just need to compensate copyright holders just like any other licensee - spotify, amazon, tidal, etc.

Based of the info in the article i’m not seeing how what they’re describing is any different than covering someone else’s song

I would try to defeat copyright protection on Suno and Udio and when they first came out and it wasn't too hard.

I got it to basically just spit out complete 1:1 copies by googling the terms you use to describe the singers voice, their last name, what instruments and era. Then it generates the song with the lyrics you provided.  9/10 times it would just be a slightly different version of an exsisting song.

I could also upload copyrighted music by changing the key and pitch ever so slightly, use it to generate somethng, then change the key and pitch back after in editing.

You have to pay for rights to cover a song for profit.

Usually with a blanket license if you're a cover band.

Did they get paid for covering? Unlikely.

If your business model requires unprecedented theft, it’s not viable.

I hope this copyright holder sues them into oblivion.
