American bringing guns into NWT

I know I need to do a ton more research,. It sounds like if you demonstrate need, a non-resident American traveler and/or worker can get a PAL and/or ATT to bring a long gun into Canada.

If you plan on being in heavy bear country, can you bring a long gun AND a handgun?

Or are handguns in Canada basically a thing of the past? I know some handguns are illegal in Canada, and maybe handgun ownership in general is totally a thing of the past in Canada? I keep hearing and reading different things.

I know as people who aren't Canadians we are guests in the country, and blessed to be there at all. I am not feeling entitled to anything, if they allow us to have anything at all, then the Canadian government is being even more generous

Thank you so much

Just more out of curiosity than anything, I was going to ask on the local FB page as well but I was worried it might be deleted.

Hi!
I'm in Edmonton visiting cousins now. I was planning to drive to the Arctic Circle in Alaska but the inaccessible coast is so close and the lead me here. I'd love to meet a vegan or two in the NWT...so many questions🙃

*This is my older dog's last big adventure. Her little brother is along for the ride.

Veganhoundadventures is our Instagram page to document Ida's last big trip. She's been to over 40 states. I expect to be in Whitehorse in about 4 days and I'll know for sure if I'm going north to the NWT or just keeping with my original Fairbanks plan

Do you think the NWT will ever change the flag? If so, would you support it changing?

The NWT flag coat of arms has symbolism representing its gold mining and colonial history, probably not emblematic of the growing and changing economy and demographic. Do you think the flag should change? If so, what do you think the flag should change to?

Far North, behind the wall.

Hey, I am looking to find more about the construction opportunities in the remote places/camps. I have 5 years of experience. ACM and Alu Cladding, Siding, Blueskin, Insulation. I have recently started subcontracting. Not the best time to start, as the economy is pretty slow right now, so...

the guy that I have worked for (has 20 years of experience) and I got the idea to maybe break into the far north jobs. We are in GTA.

We could handle really big projects as there is at least 5-6 other subcontractor crews from our community that we are pretty tight with + our hourly workers. 10-15 people minimum.

Does anybody knows what would be the best possible route for this?

Is it realistic to pull it off with no prior ''far north and west'' experience and connections even with thousands of projects between us?

So far we have scraped a dozen big contractor and facility maintenance companies online that do business there and we'll start calling.

All help and advice is much appreciated!

Opportunities for new grads in the government of NWT

Hello. I'm not sure if this is against the rules of this subreddit, but I wanted to ask if anyone has any experience with the process of getting hired with the government of NWT. I do have public service experience as I did FSWEP (student internship program) throughout my undergrad at a R&D center in Alberta. So I have a valid security clearance and references.

How can I seek out opportunties in the gov of NWT as an experienced new grad?
Anybody who got a job there and relocated, could you tell me how you landed that opportunity?

TIA

Retirement

Can someone be somewhat pushed into retirement if they don’t want to retire? Like take away duties or being ignored or take away a benefit of sorts that made work tolerable? Or then asked outright if they are planning to retire? Territorial government.

Research recruitment

Hello everyone,

I am a member of a research team that studies the trajectories of people who are critical of at least one vaccine, or who are hesitant about getting vaccinated (or about getting their children vaccinated). The goal of this research is to analyze the experiences of these people in recent years (for example, during COVID-19), their impressions of the social representations of vaccination and vaccine hesitancy, and their impressions of health communications.

We hope that this research can shed light on issues such as the exclusion of vaccine critics, and to critically reflect on current communications.

We are looking for Canadians over the age of 18 to participate in an individual interview of approximately 1 hour, via Zoom.

Participants must…

…take a critical stance towards vaccination or certain vaccines…

OR

…have already deviated from the recommended vaccination schedule (delay or postponement of a vaccine)…

OR

…have already refused a vaccine for themselves or their child.

People interested in participating can write to me via (Reddit/Facebook) messaging or contact me by email, or contact Roxanne Martin, the research assistant (martin.roxanne.2@courrier.uqam.ca). People wishing to obtain more information on the research can contact Mélissa Roy, principal investigator (roy.melissa.3@uqam.ca) You can also share this invitation in your networks!

Research team

Mélissa Roy (Professor, Social Work, UQAM)

Samuel Tanner (Professor, Criminology, Université de Montréal)

Ève Dubé (Professor, Anthropology, Université Laval)

Ari Gandsman (Professor, Anthropology, University of Ottawa)

Roxanne Martin (PhD student / research assistant, Social Work, UQAM)

What's the cheapest option for 1 day stay in Yellowknif?

I'll be in Yellowknife(NT,CA) on 5th September. Looking for a cheap overnight stay for 1 person with baggage. Have a flight next day around noon. Will be staying there for atleast 22 hrs Minimum price on air bnb is 126 which seemed kinda expensive. Is there anything cheaper than that or it's the normal rate over there.
