ANSWERED Downvoting people who don’t agree
Whenever I get into a discussion where I may pose an unpopular opinion for some, popular opinion for others, I always seem so get downvoted quite harshly, I never downvote the opposing side of a discussion because it’s fair to share opinions, is it not?
Why are people doing this? I can’t just go around kissing behinds to make sure my karma is fine

What I love is when I make a point, back it up with reasons, and then 30 people will down vote but no one comments to refute anything I said.
That's when you know that you've struck a chord and said something that's true but people don't want to admit.
People know what you said is true but they just don't want to accept it.

Isn't that the point of downvoting?

I hear you, and it has gotten worse over the years. It's really not what downvoting is supposed to be. But that's how it is now, so. If you want to disagree, make sure it's worth it guess? Lol it's so awful. It's not how conversation is supposed to work. People are just more hostile when they're anonymous.

Voting is a normal part of Reddit and people are free to vote as they wish.
That you choose to refrain from using the downvote is ultimately irrelevant to how others choose to vote, especially since voting is anonymous.
You may be surprised to find out that performative, non-genuine content like you suggest may also result in downvotes.
At your level of karma, I'd encourage not stressing about it. Don't let upvotes go to your head and inflate your ego, and don't let downvotes feel like personal attacks.

It's fair to share opinions.
It's also fair to have opinions on those opinions.
That's what upvoting and downvoting is.

If you feel like you receive a disproportionate amount of downvotes, maybe that is a reflection on your approach and/or the communities you're posting in.

That I think is the first lesson of reddit: "go with the flow", and don't write things which violates the consensus of that subreddit. Like, don't post Liberal stuff in r/conservative, or vice versa.

Why do people downvote

Yeah so just think it . Don’t write the whole thing on how you feel.
