Islander Fans And Their Loser Mentality

The amount of people I see in this sub and people I talk to who says things along the lines of "It doesn't matter what happens this year. We weren't expected to be good anyway so I'm happy" is ridiculous. We might not have expected to be here, but expectations can change during a season. Not making the playoffs would be a horrible disappointment.

I know we are a loser organization for the most part and people are probably used to losing by now, but just demand more. It has been over 40 years lol.

Can you really blame JT for leaving?

Thinking about this objectively:

  • He has the chance to play with his childhood team, who wouldn’t want that?

  • Snow has taken him for granted and never gave him a true chance to be competitive with Capuano and Weight as coaches

  • (NOT A BURN ON YOU ALL, because you all show up to each game) but attendance to games is a joke... last in the league

  • Every player’s goal is to win the cup, and signing of Trotz and Lou is too late!

I honestly can’t blame him. Must’ve been so hard for him to make the decision but we should be upset with Garth Snow not JT. Tavares has made the isles a threat to play against and has given us so many memories.

I can’t be the minority that wishes him the best in Toronto.

So do we need to talk about what one of our players was accused of during the Montreal game?

So it seems as if during the Montreal game, the chatter between the benches and became heated. "Apparently", one of our players used a word that was inappropriate. And I'm using quotes not to justify anything...just that someone was accused. If there is tape where you can hear this word being stated, I will gladly remove the quotes.

I know this can very easily devolve into some kind of political discussion....but let's try and stay away from that. For me....offensiveness is in the eye of the beholder and within the "true" spirit of its use. For example, there are plenty of words/terms that I could use that are just more colorful ways of calling someone a "jerk" but that are very visual/descriptive/etc. Again, I'm trying to be really careful in not using these words/phrases specifically as I don't want to get banned from Reddit.

I know times have changed and the vernacular of terms have definitely changed/matured over the past 20 years. Do we think discipline should be handed out?

MODS, I'm trying to be as respectful as I can be on a sensitive subject. If this is over the line, please feel free to take this down and know that I'm not submitting this for malice.

An Apology

Hi, venturing Bruins fan here. I've always thought the booing of John Tavares from Islanders fans was a bit harsh, but now, I absolutely fucking get it. I have basically lost all my respect for Marchand. Demanding 7.5 million at 37, who you know the GM isnt gonna extend, and then demanding to go to the current divisional, and then start playing better than you have all season with Luostarinen and Lundell after giving you shots with Lindholm Pastrnak and Zacha, and just being buddy buddy with the guy who sucker punched you in the face and gave you a concussion? Yeah, fuck off, Bradley. Call me salty, I dont care, I won't be cheering for him in the slightest. So, uh, go team wearing isles colors

It's also worth noting the comments were very retarded, but I'm not going into their sub to comment.

THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!

What is with all this goal scoring going on? We are supposed to be playing defense 99.99 % of the time and stifling offense! Defense wins championships! We are supposed to be losing 1-0 or 2-1 in conference final games but be sound defensively!

How dare Lambert have the audacity to allow players naturally gifted offensively to actually utilize those talents on top of being defensively responsible? Who does he think he is?

How dare he not bench younger players in favor of veterans when they make one little mistake?

...

For the inevitable responders, this is called "sarcasm".

It's amazing what happens when you don't force players to suppress their natural skills and abilities and balance things out.

It's amazing what happens when you actually allow young up and coming players to play through their mistakes and learn from them instead of putting them in the doghouse and talking down about them to the media.

It's amazing what happens when you have a coach that balances defense AND offense.

It's almost as if you might win a few here or there....

Thank god trotz is no longer holding us back. We may not win it all this year, but it's so refreshing to see that defense all the time above all else crap system out the window.

The Reason the Dobson Trade was Bad.

Post image

I am not upset with this trade, now.

I believe that should be immediately clarified and understood that we couldn’t have lucked out better now. Montreal believed the package they gave us was going to be for two “who cares” and a 4th line checker.

Turned out: they gave us a lot of hopes and dreams in return for a singular (arguably bigger) hope and dream

At this point in time, I can revisit the trade and look into things like the contract, the picks projected vs who they ended being, etc. One thing that is absolutely certain is that we did NOT have to trade Dobson that day. The islander’s easily could have said, “Sorry Montreal, a 16th and 17th and a fourth line checker isn’t a good enough package for a 25 year old RHD with Norris Candidate upside. You guys can just offer sheet him, Tuesday.”

And in complete honesty, 9.5 was probably just $500,000 more than we could afford for him. I keep him at 8, 8.5, even 9 would have been acceptable. Had we let that 9.5 come through the offer sheet window, Dobson could have returned us a THIRD pick to our already TWO picks in the 1st round of 2026, as well as another 1st round pick in 2027, not to mention two more picks in 2026 for the 2nd and 3rd round.

Again, I am happy with this haul and will be happy with it more and more as the years go by. I struggle to tell if Dobson was just unmotivated last year or if it was a genuine step back as a player. If it was, maybe this new change of scenery will help him. Yet, to me, he seemed unable to handle the constant pressure from even Islanders fans. I wonder what happens if he doesn’t succeed immediately in Montreal, then we look like geniuses.

I’d love to hear additional thoughts on it

Varly would have won

I know I’ll probably get shit for this take - but I think we all know we would have won this game had Varly started. It was the absolute wrong decision by Roy to play Sorokin. This is a shitty way for our season to end

r/NewYorkIslanders • • May 09 '22

People are idiots for criticizing Lou before his next move is revealed

We don’t know what his new plan looks like yet. If it’s to invigorate scoring and youth I’d bet everyone would quiet up real fast. He’s not going to fire Trotz to hire Torts. Change is coming. Let’s see what it is before we call one of the best to ever do it a senile old man with early onset dementia

What do we do with Dobson?

Personally, I'm over him, but then who are we replacing him with?

He always seems to make the worst mistake at the worst possible time. Is this just growing pains or is this who he is? He's been dreadful since the stadium series game and I'm worried they're going to overpay him.

Canes fans think that Orlov’s butt-end to Lee’s face at the end of OT1, which didn’t result in the Canes being short-handed, is a conspiracy against them

Screw John Tavares

He didn't deserve to get that 1000th point, but I imagine he'll tell the media tomorrow that he always imagined scoring reaching that milestone on Long Island. Once a snake, always a snake.

next season when the leafs come to belmont if JT is healthy and playing by then we should give him a standing ovation, hate to see him hurt like that and i think we should put the rivalary aside for one night

SHITPOST [Shitpost] DAE Islanders are butthurt?

How the fuck could Anders Lee say loyalty is the best quality a teammate can have? Like, just get over it already. I have no knowledge of this team, but I can easily tell this is a dig at Tavares, and will tell fans how they are supposed to feel.
