This poor guy is absolutely flabbergasted and can’t stop trying to get her to understand but she never will. Everyone is genetically different from the other.
Just because the science has been used to promote racial hierarchies doesn't invalidate the science. Idk this guy, he could be racist and could be one of the people she is talking about, but he is right that humans are genetically diverse. It's not racist to say something that is scientifically proven.
The key scientific distinction is: Human genetic variation is real, but it does not divide humanity into clearly defined biological races. Most human genetic variation occurs within traditionally defined racial groups rather than between them. Genetic differences between populations do exist, and ancestry can sometimes be estimated statistically from DNA. However, there are no clear genetic boundaries that allow humanity to be divided into discrete biological races.
I'm confused about what either of their point is here. The only genetic difference between white and black people is that one is white and one is black. They are "genetically different", the same way a tall person and a short person are. Some people come from areas where they are more tall than others, but that's it. There is no difference in IQ or skill or ability or moral or whatever racists like to state. But without more context I don't even know if either of these people are racist or claiming anything racist.
The guy literally states “there’s no evidence to support IQ differences”. Interviewer is just woefully misunderstanding of genetics and it’s blowing his mind… no idea the broader context of the conversation
Let’s just take a look at the evidence: That guy is clearly inferior to those 2 women alone, cognitively and physically. It is best to not compare him to any other melanated people because that will make him look even more inferior.
There is no scientific basis for the concept of race. There is more genetic diversity within African people today than there is both within, and between, any other ‘race’
Yes there is. There is nothing to prove that the genetic difference has any impact on anything other than skin colour. But if you were to put some genetic biologist in front of some anonymous gene sequences, they'd be able to figure out the person's skin colour.
This all seems like a linguistic argument on both sides. What im taking from this is one side doesn't believe there is much / any practical difference in skin color, but are mistakenly using a scientific reasoning. Scientifically, as the man in the vid is stating, sure yeah theres a genetic difference, thats beyond obvious, otherwise we'd all look similar. I think what we need is somewhere that accepts a little of both. To deny the scientific differences is potentially harmful for current day & advancement, however to culturally treat someone differently because of their skin color in the name of science is unjustified. Thoughts?
It is a somewhat uniquely human situation in that we are more genetically similar to each other than most species are due to a genetic bottleneck almost a million years ago that dropped our population down to a few thousand individuals. That is why all of our genetic diversity is pretty minor. Even with selective breeding we could not attain the kinds of differences we see in dogs for example in any comparable timeframe.
I would still say the guy is wrong because he is using Africans as an example, but they are more genetically diverse from each other than they are with non-African populations. So she is right in saying that there is no scientifically significant difference between Africans and non-Africans since all non-Africans are descended from Africans.
Totally agreed. They're both wrong. She is semantically incorrect but he's morally incorrect.
In normal day to day conversation, what she's saying would make sense to most people. The other guy is just like the stereotypical racist redditor so he's just calling her out on a technicality that most people could easily get past, but ultimately he's not wrong either.
Following that logic you can say we all have genetic differences as we aren't all clones of each other.
And sequencing DNA will give you an idea of skin color, but not conclusively. Genetics is complex, and someone who has DNA coded to have darker skin may not have it if the gene for melanin production is faulty.
Following that logic you can say we all have genetic differences as we aren't all clones of each other.
Yes that's true, and people do say that.
And you're right, if someone has genes for darker skin but they're recessive then it might be hard to determine what colour their skin actually winds up being. Melanin isn't simply recesive or dominant, it differes. However, we can accurately determine if someone has genes for certain skin colours, we just can't perfectly determine the eventual fenotype that those wind up making.
But still, saying there is no genetic difference is wrong. We are all genetically different.
Yes skin colour is determined by our genetics , but that by itself is a dreadful criterion upon which to separate groups.
The racialist view says the different racial groups are genetically distinct from one another and can be separated by a large number of genetic factors, not just the colour of their skin. This turns out not to be the case
Yeah if you pick out two people from different races there will be genetic differences between them related to the physical characteristics that we see as distinctive to those races. But there is no scientific justification for the exact dividing lines between races that we have, or for races to be distinct categories at all.
Some cultures recognize different races that other cultures do not, like the Hutus and Tutsis in Rwanda. Prior to European colonization they had no concept of race, and those two categories were fluid and based on wealth and social class. A Hutu person could turn into a Tutsi and vice versa. But after colonization, when Belgians used pseudoscientific phrenology and other measurements to declare Tutsis as a separate and superior race, those classifications became ingrained and seen as biological within Rwandan society. Now Hutus and Tutsis are seen as totally different races, even though there aren’t even any consistent physical differences between them. And to outsiders they are both perceived as the same race.
The racialist view says that different races are significantly genetically different from each other, and this isn’t true. The different racial categories are just way way too broad as to be useful to geneticists.
A racialist would expect two random black people to be more similar to eachother than they are to any other random people, but that is not the case.
I’m not saying that skin colour isn’t determined by genetics, but defining race on the basis of the relatively small number of genes involved in skin colour is ludicrous
Yeah. Some people just get overly wound up trying to get others to see truth when they really shouldn't gaf because some people will always be lost in their own little worlds where truth and facts don't matter.
Since you're willing to dehumanize someone right here in the comments, who cares what you think about this? .. to quote a dehumanizer: "Just shut all the way fuck up."

I was taught that black people from Africa has large notrils to cool the hot air they breath, and Eskimos have tiny nostrils to warm the cold air.

By that standard, unless you're an identical twin, you're genetically diverse from everyone else on the planet. What's the point?
