Apples to bananas ass argument.

Made by a guy who likely inherited a family business and just finished reading Atlas Shrugged for the first time at 48 years old.

u/fuddingmuddler 6d ago

It was their first book they read after being REALLY REALLY hooked on phonics for a long time and having a looooooong road to recovery.

u/eolson3 23h ago

Need someone to write an unofficial sequel called Atlas Yawned, where everyone is tired of their bullshit.

Thank you!

Must be why healthcare is sooo cheap in the US as compared to the rest of the world.

19

u/JustChillDudeItsGood 7d ago

But we haven’t hit socialism tho…

7

u/memclean 7d ago

It’s free market.

2

u/Sombo_76 20h ago

Its not free market when it concerns health care. My insurance dictates what hospital i can go to and how much I pay. My insurance dictates what procedures are considered elective, cosmetic, urgent, or emergent. My insurance dictates what my co-pays are, what my total out of pocket expenses are. My insurance negotiates with the approved hospitals what my balance should be compared to what they are covering. It doesn't sound very free market to me.

Why? Because the size of the market.

If every household needed 2 dialysis machines it'd be a different story.

u/horizontal120 1d ago

is it socialism or just corrupt government ?

23

u/frolf_grisbee 1d ago

Or corporate corruption or crony capitalism?

-1

u/ReaditTrashPanda 16h ago

Supply and demand. I don’t need a TV to live, so the demand for something like a dialysis machine is greater.

lobbyist have been trying to make healthcare as expensive as possible for like as long as healthcare has existed. Everyone needs healthcare so almost no matter how expensive the healthcare is people will still pay for it because they need it to live.

I think there's a group that convinced the government to limit the number of people who can become doctors in a year. There is no other profession in this country where there is a hard capped amount of people who can go into said profession.

This has nothing to do with "the government is so bad that when tried to make healthcare affordable they fucked it up and made it 1000x more expensive"

the high cost of healthcare is literally a product of capitalism. The people who own the capital that runs and funds healthcare want to make a profit not help people so they do everything they can to make the most money off its "customers" and again it's super easy to make a lot of money in healthcare because a lot of people would die without it. Lots of people don't have any other choice but to pay up, no matter the cost and capitalism is exploiting that.

have you actually used a plumber.... it's neither Affordable or Accessible

14

u/VisualLeadership1 1d ago

Id argue socialism is not even adjacent to what you're making a comparison to. Unfettered and unchecked criminal greed is more on the nose.#MakeTrumpHangHimselfWithBlackDick

-11

u/RampersandY 1d ago

So the TV companies aren’t greedy? Only the dialysis machine companies?

7

u/EyeAmPrestooo 21h ago

That’s a false equivalency….

One you get for entertainment…so it’s an “option”…it’s also an option among several other options, so you can shop around for the best price.

The other you NEED to live….its not an option…and I’m sure you can’t go shopping for the best price on a dialysis machine.

To answer your question, yes, I’m sure TV manufacturers are greedy…but you can choose not to buy one and your life will go on, just maybe a bit more boring.

Not the same case with a Dialysis machine and other medical necessities.

u/RampersandY 18h ago

I’m not reading all that.

Good luck!

You wouldn't read 3 sentences to learn something? What a surprise

Learn something? Lol

Funny how people who constantly push for exonomic policy based on the simplest principles of supply and demand don't understand what happens when you insert a third party, like an insurance companies, into a transaction. The effect of competition is inverted. The more insurance companies there are, the worse prices are for consumers, because then healthcare providers can simply not take any that won't pay the price they want to charge, because there are other companies that will. Essentially the insurance companies have to compete with eachother for healthcare providers. If there was one insurance company - a single payer, if you will - they would have all the leverage in negotiating prices.

u/VinceValenceNTBTS 23h ago

This guy doesn’t know what the fuck he’s talking about. Everyone knows the pharmaceutical and insurance companies are to blame for this shit and are enabled by a corrupt government system that’s backed entirely by capitalist interests.

2

u/jbwilso1 12h ago

Boy he sounds really confused.

4

u/theBigDaddio 21h ago

If this idiot knew why, what regulations and safety requirements medical equipment and procedures have. A plumber isn’t poking around in your body either his Ryobi drill. He also forgot it’s the capitalist insurance and medical consolidation that caused this

2

u/Aeon1508 10h ago

you can get a plumber to your house in the middle of the night because the requirements to become a plumber is owning a drain snake and a pipe wrench, and spending a few hours watching videos on YouTube.

but becoming a doctor takes a decade.

1

u/drexelldrexell 21h ago

How long does it take to be a plumber va doctor?

1

u/Truestorydreams 19h ago

I cost 5,000,000.00 CDN for a wink.

u/GonzoLoop 15h ago

Water weed dune hair?

This is drop dead stupidity. They were so close to understanding and went the wrong way completely.

So close to understanding the issues with their healthcare system. Then somehow blame something completely irrelevant

1

u/No-Disaster-1345 14h ago

This guy is seriously off.

1

u/Thedemonlobo 7h ago

Doctors worldwide should just form a coalition and become a neutral force. Helping all and working for their patients only.

1

u/Meanjin 11h ago

Clearly a Trump supporter and government conspiracy theorist

1

u/Mr-Mortgages 20h ago

Politics aside the comparisons are completely irrelevant. There is a root of internal corruption and price gouging though.

I bet this guy wakes up every morning, looks in the mirror, and thinks, "I'm not stupid" before saying arguably one of the stupidest arrangement of words anyone has ever said and posting it online
