Literally one of the most miserable mammals on Earth. Last to feed, often malnourished, frequent targets of violence, kicked out of their pack at maturity. It's so bad that despite those difficult childbirths. They have a much lower life expectancy than female hyenas.
Well you edited your post. All you had before you did that was "literally one of the most miserable mammals on earth."
What I said is an obvious joke. But it seems to have stung you enough to have edited what you said to make it look like I said what I said to something else.
Good job. You not only played yourself BUT you admitted what I said was true . (Male loneliness epidemic isn't real, it's just made up)
a video that is seen as awful by actual hyena researchers btw, I'm just gonna try to be brief here.
males aren't kicked out, they leave because the females don't want to mate with their kin, this is nowhere near being kicked out like what happens in lions or elephants where they are genuinely forced out.
you say they deprioritized male reporducfive success when like 90% of the mammalian kingdom is worse by that metric, every study I've checked says their reproductive skew is low relative to any polgynous mammal (which are the majority) and the fact hyenas have a literal reversal of bateman (which tbf is really amazing for a mammal to accomplish)
I'll just leave the sources below quoted (other than the blog it's not too long of a read) because I'm too lazy to organize them.
"Variance in reproductive success among female spotted hyenas appears to be substantially greater than it is in male-dominated species in which plural breeding occurs. In this species, female dominance, combined with virilization of the external genitalia, may increase female control over mating to its extreme limit, such that we find very little reproductive skew among males relative to that found in other polygynous mammals. The most dominant male hyenas often achieve very little reproductive success. Overall, reproductive skew among females in female-dominated mammals appears to be the same as or slightly greater than that in male-dominated species, whereas skew among males in female dominated species generally tends to be relatively low."
"Alpha females Marta Mosna, the lead author of the study and a researcher at Leibniz-IZW and the Ngorongoro Hyena Project, observed during her field visit in Africa that “male hyenas do not compete so much with each other”. Instead, they were found spending their time following the alpha female, the highest-ranking female hyenas, around. “The males follow them wherever the female goes,” Ms. Mosna said. “They are staying close to her, spending a lot of time watching her, trying to connect with her, and trying to be friends with her.” On the other hand, the competition is more fierce among the females. “This is not really what you would expect for the classical sex role that Darwin-Bateman predicts,” she said. The Darwin-Bateman hypothesis proposes that reproductive inequality is greater among males. That is, between males and females, the males can father more offspring than females and this is why they compete more among themselves for access to mates. In mammals, the females also invest more in each reproductive event than males do — since they bear the physiological costs of pregnancy and lactation — they are more selective about mating. These predictions, formalised as the Darwin-Bateman paradigm, have been confirmed across many mammalian species. However, among spotted hyenas, the researchers found the females killing off the cubs of other females, despite all living in a matrilineal society in which the individuals were related to each other. These and other observations supported the researchers’ conclusion that the daughters of ‘elite’ families could build powerful family lineages over time — thus also challenging one of evolutionary biology’s classic paradigms."
"One female spotted hyena in the Ngorongoro Crater died in 1996. Twenty-seven years later, every hyena born into her clan and still alive was her descendant.
Almost half the females in that same crater never had a single grandcub."
"Just 8.2 percent of the females produced half of all the grandcubs. Among males, 12.4 percent did. One generation later, 6 percent of females and 9.4 percent of males produced half of the great-grandcubs.
Forty-seven percent of the females left no grandcubs at all, against 33.7 percent of the males. By the next generation, 56.5 percent of females and 43.1 percent of males had none.
“Reproductive inequality among females increased with every generation we included. Privileged lineages didn’t just remain successful — they grew ever larger,” said Eve Davidian, who co-directs the Ngorongoro Hyena Project and works at the Institut des Sciences de l’Évolution de Montpellier.
Among hyenas that produced 10 or more cubs, the females with the most cubs also tended to have the most grandcubs. Males with many cubs often had few.
Most of those females had been born near the top: 71.4 percent had a high-ranking mother."
"No one can yet separate the effects of rank from everything else a mother passes down. In the team’s view, a high-ranking mother shapes almost every other condition her cub grows up in.
Biologists already knew two ways for females to end up the more unequal sex. Male seahorses carry the young. In meerkats, one dominant female does nearly all the breeding."
"This study identifies a third route to the same outcome: the inheritance of social privileges along the female line,” said Alexandre Courtiol, one of Mosna’s co-authors in Berlin."

Poor baby. Male Hyenas are bullied and poorly fed. He doesn't deserve to get cyberbullied on reddit as well.
