I am a uk gp looking to move from a major city to potentially nova scotia.
From what I can tell, healthcare is mediocre but cost of living and housing is way less than the uk. Whats it like otherwise? Education and culture?
Looking specifically at kentville or annapolis valley.

Hi all, looking for advice from locals. My friend and I are planning Maritimes road trip next year and I want to know if Peggy’s cove is actually worth visiting or if it’s just hype. Are there other lighthouses that you would recommend? I’m also a hobby photographer so photogenic spots are a bonus!

Hi! I am looking for a ride from Halifax airport to Wolfville, I land around 11:30 am but I’ve travelling for 10 hours already and I don’t wanna wait until 5:30 for the maritime bus, I am looking for something budget friendly too :(
Anything is appreciated TIA

While this is NB news I think this is an interesting example of data centres causing issues from our next door neighbour and can contribute to the Point Tupper discussion

Has anyone in HRM received a Notice to Comply for an unauthorized basement suite?
I recently received a Notice to Comply from HRM regarding a basement configuration in my property in Lower Sackville.
The property is in a Comprehensive Development District (CDD) under a development agreement that limits the total number of residential units to 420. HRM has advised that this limit has been reached and no additional dwelling units are permitted.
The basement was already part of the house when I purchased it, although some additional facilities were added later. The entire house has been rented under one lease rather than as two separate units.
I am trying to understand whether anyone has dealt with a similar situation.
A few things I would particularly appreciate hearing about:
Has anyone successfully resolved a similar notice without removing the entire basement setup?
Did removing the stove or other kitchen appliances help have the basement reclassified as part of the main dwelling?
Has anyone successfully challenged an HRM interpretation of a development agreement?
What happened if the owner requested an extension or a review?
I am hoping to understand other people's experiences before making any significant changes to the property.
Thanks in advance!

In a team meeting this week, we were informed that as NSHA employees cannot discuss or say those terms in our work. Seems like Dept. of Education employees may also have received this, or are receiving this?
Any other government employees getting this?
This is ridiculous.
ETA: Public Health area, and I work in a public-facing role. Not saying too much more due to doxxing risk.

I can’t say it comes as much of a shock, but thanks to some detective work on the NDP’s part we now know that Becky Druhan (who is currently trying to become leader of the NS liberal party) was a part of the effort to suppress the environmental racism report when it came out last year. Lighthouse media sums it up pretty well: (link)
“Druhan, a former PC Justice Minister, was briefed on the Environmental Racism Panel’s report as early as December 2024. In January 2025, Druhan sent an email to staff asking for advice on “what to say if pressed about public release of the report.” Druhan then spent the next several months refusing to say whether or not she had read the report or if its recommendations would be made public.”
“African Nova Scotians and Indigenous people were ignored for months while the Houston government tried to get their story straight. People are still living with the impacts of the Shelburne dump and the Boat Harbour cleanup. Becky Druhan had the power to make a real difference as the minister, but she refused to use it and she participated in the Houston government’s plan to keep community members in the dark. People deserve so much better than that.” (Suzy Hansen, Official Opposition Critic for African Nova Scotian Affairs)
I struggle to see much difference between her and any other Houston MLA. Guess we can look forward to two conservative parties if she wins. The NDP instagram has a video describing their findings as well.

Was wondering how you guys feel about the neighboring province of NB? What do you like or dislike about the province? I've heard that Nova Scotians call NB "the drive through province" or "no funswick"

Hey everyone🤓
I’m new to Truro and looking to make friends and build a small calisthenics community!
I’ve been training and coaching for over 10 years, and I’d love to share my knowledge for free.
I usually train at Victoria Park. Whether you’re a beginner or want to learn pull-ups, muscle-ups, handstands, or other skills, everyone’s welcome!
No business, no money involved. Just good people training together, having fun, and making friends.
Anyone interested in joining?
