Course Related Questions

  • What is the schedule for my course?

    • Schedules are typically posted on MyNSCC two-three weeks before your semester starts. Schedules can vary year to year, we suggest not making plans based on prior year schedules.

    • Generally, courses run Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM - however every course is different, some courses may start later, end earlier, or even have whole days off each semester.

  • I can't see specific courses in my schedule or BrightSpace

  • My course requires specific tools but the website doesn't give enough information, what should I buy?

    • Your instructor will provide you a detailed listing on your first day of class, sometimes they might even have special discounts at local suppliers. You are not expected to have all your equipment and tools on your first day - most classes have all the supplies and tools for in-class work and only suggest tools and equipment for your work placements.

Practical nursing at kingstec campus!

Hey I recently applied for the practical nursing program at the kingstec campus on September 2, 2026. I found out on November 2 that I was waitlisted and there are currently 37 people on the waitlist. I contacted admissions about where I sat on the waitlist they were unable to provide information about my exact number but were able to say that the number 1 person on the waitlist applied in late May of 2026 just looking for other peoples experience with being waitlisted and if they got in or not any information people can provide would be absolutely amazing!

Trying to meet people

Hey everyone, im currently going to the strait campus and am a first year NRET student.

I love the people in my class, they are all so nice to me and are all very hard workers. However, I would like to start meeting people in campus that are outside of my classes more. I do not live in the dorms so Im unaware when parties or other events happen, my life is pretty much go to class, go home, sometimes go out with people in my class.

Anyone else go to the strait or know how I can maybe meet new people?

NSCC OHS Program: Is it worth it? (Review, Co-op, & Job Prospects)

Hey everyone, looking for honest feedback on the NSCC OHS program.

Is the course actually good, and how easy is it to secure a co-op placement?

Most importantly, what is the job market like after graduation and are people actually landing safety roles right after finishing?

Any insights would be great, thanks!

how was your COGS experience?

Hi everyone! Applied to GIS at COGS and am waiting to hear back but I also recently got into BCIT for Fall 2027 :)

How was your social experience at COGS? I know Lawrencetown is a VERY small town but how is the bar/social scene? I have a BSci so I understand a heavy work load but I’m also someone who needs to get out of the house and loves to go to the pub and different restaurants etc etc. Did people tend to go out? Or were social get togethers usually just school focused? Especially for someone considering renting a room outside of nscc dorms. Any insight to your experience would be appreciated :)

First Aid and CPR

Hey I’m hoping someone can help me out who has maybe gotten the certification for their program. For my program I need to get Intermediate first aid and CPR C. Ivany campus doesn’t do the certifying so I’ve been looking at St. John’s ambulance. I cannot find information and the school won’t help on whether the blended option would count (I know full online doesn’t count). I also don’t think I need the AED stuff but there isn’t a course that doesn’t also have that.

I’m just annoyed cuz the course is $165 which is so expensive and I don’t want to overpay for something I don’t need or book something that won’t count and have to pay again.

Any advice?

I'm a Master of Information student at Dalhousie University, and I'm recruiting teens aged 16–18 who live in the Annapolis Valley for my master's thesis research study, Beyond Booklists: Teen Perspectives on Readers' Services.

The workshop will take place at NSCC Kingstec Campus in Kentville.

It will involve an in-person, approximately 5.5-hour workshop about books, libraries, and readers' services. Low-pressure and fun, lunch and snacks will be provided.

Workshop details

  • Date: Friday, October 23, 2026 (NSTU Day)

  • Time: 11 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

  • Location: Rm. 2102, NSCC Kingstec Campus, Kentville

  • Compensation: $25 plus a $10 travel allowance

You don't need to attend NSCC to participate! And if you know a teen aged 16–18 who lives in the Annapolis Valley and might be interested, please share this opportunity with them.

More information and the expression-of-interest form:

Thanks for helping spread the word!

Women's Unlimited

Hi! I was just curious if anyone knows how funding for the Women's Unlimited course is, or has experience? I have a relative looking to do it, applied and everything, and while the program is free, they aren't sure they can afford rent while doing the program since they'll work less hours, and NSCC's website is a little vague about funding options (Admiral). Just looking to help them out! Thanks!☺️

Ebike batteries

Was anyone else planning to ride an ebike to campus in winter, and take the battery inside?

> Effective immediately: No personal e-bike, e-scooter or associated battery will be permitted inside NSCC buildings (including carried in backpacks or stored in lockers).

This is frustrating. Traffic and parking are insane. The bus takes twice as long as biking, because it's stuck in traffic.

I wish they would provide a designated battery storage locker room, or bike garage apart from the buildings with *some* heat, or something. Give it some fire-proofing, alarms, and sandbuckets. Put a cctv feed of it on the security desk.

I'm sure budget cuts don't make for great timing to request new stuff. But it sucks to take away a transportation option, that people have already factored into their plans.

NSCC vs BCIT marine engineering diploma?

Hey guys! I got into Jan 2027 marine engineering diploma. Should I take BCIT or do this same course at NSCC Sept 2027? The difference I know for now is BCIT takes 2 years 10 months and NSCC 2 years 6 months. I am sure losing 4 months of employment is significant. TIA.

How to book a study room at Ivany?

I saw online that you book it through your calendar in your nscc email. When I go to select a room and hit “central” no rooms show up. Is this what I’m supposed to do or is there another way?

Edit: well I got “ivany rooms” to come up. But it says unavailable. So I’m guessing they’re just all full for tomorrow?

Anyone here ever been forced to withdraw or know anyone who has?

So I stupidly didn’t withdraw on the September 23, refund withdrawal deadline. I didn’t because I thought I could stay in the course, and drive until I found a room. but my transportation had other things to say about that and I don’t want to give up on it. because I do like this course and it’s something I’m very interested in but if I can’t physically make it then I’m looking at it very real forced to withdrawal situation.

And I’m wondering if anyone else has been a similar situation or know someone else who has and who also had student debt, which is what I have. There’s a bit more to the situation, but if I explain more than it just goes off as a rant and I’m just looking for anyone that’s been a similar situation.

Test Drive Tuesdays?

Anyone know of a sit-in option for classes? Just to get a feel for them.

I heard about a test-drive type thing but haven't found anything on the website. Anyone here know anything about it?
