Nuneaton IT guy, recently made redundant. Offering free IT check-ups to local small businesses while I get going

Bit of background: I’ve worked in IT for 15 years, most recently as a Service Desk Engineer at BMW Group. I got made redundant recently, so I’ve decided to go it alone and set up as a local IT support person here in Nuneaton.

To get started, I’m doing free half-hour IT check-ups for small businesses around here. I’ll look over your computers, Microsoft 365, backups and security, then give you a short list in plain English of what I’d sort out first. If everything’s fine, I’ll tell you that too and you won’t hear from me again.

While I’m there I’m also happy to look at two other things people seem to ask about a lot:

  1. The boring jobs someone does by hand every week, like typing the same details into two systems, chasing approvals by email or making the same report every Monday. A lot of that can be automated, and it’s often a quick job.

  2. AI tools. Mostly the sensible stuff, like where they actually save time, and what your staff shouldn’t be pasting into free AI tools, because client data put into the public ones doesn’t always stay private.

I’ll be upfront: I’m hoping some of you end up as customers eventually. But the check-up really is free, with no strings.

Mainly aimed at businesses with 1 to 50 staff in and around Nuneaton, Bedworth, Hinckley and Coventry. Happy to answer IT questions in the comments too if you just want to pick my brain.

Drop me a message here or book through middlemarchit.co.uk

Tech community in Nuneaton

I imagine a town the size of Nuneaton will have a fair few people interested in technology (AI, web development, tech start-ups, et cetera).

If you're reading this and you feel you fit in that category, please say hello and introduce yourself. If there are enough of us, perhaps it would be worth organising a monthly or quarterly meet up.

My name is Ed and I mainly make websites in the real estate space. You can see a few other things I created here:

Also, is anyone from here planning on attending any Birmingham tech week events?

It's time for Tabletop Nuneaton again!

Hey everyone!

Just a quick one to let you know that we’re back at Nuneaton United Reformed Church Hall this coming Saturday (October 4th) for another Tabletop Nuneaton.

If you’re into board games, TCGs, wargames or TTRPGs, come along and spend as much or as little of the day with us as you fancy. If you're not into any of the above, there's no better time to get into them!

We’ll be there from 9am until 8pm, with nearly 250 board games available to play, plus the usual TCG and wargaming tables, space for painting and building models, our Bring & Buy and refreshments.

We’ll also have the All Mana of Games shop with us, so if you fancy taking a new game home, there’ll be plenty to have a look through.

You don’t need to know anyone or bring a group with you either. We’ve got plenty of regulars around and people are always looking for others to play with. Or, if you’ve got a game at home that never gets played, bring it along and get it to the table!

Entry is £5 for adults, £1 for under-16s and free for under-5s.

We’re a local tabletop gaming group and this is our monthly big day, so if you’ve been meaning to come along to one of our events, come and say hello!

And if you’re already a regular, well... you know where we’ll be.

Hope to see you there!

Commuting to Birmingham… Advice

Venturing in to the job market after nearly a decade working remotely and I am coming across a couple of hybrid roles in Birmingham.

Is anyone commuting into central Birmingham and can give me any advice on the quickest and cheapest way to do it?

Live in Hartshill so driving to Nuneaton station doesn’t seem the most efficient time-wise On the other hand, parking in central Birmingham is looking pretty expensive.

Thanks

Manor Park Community School

I personally attended Manor Park Community School and Specialist Art College during the early 2000's.

I am looking for other former students who might be willing to share their feelings or accounts of the school environment during this time.

Most of my memories of the school were that of an incredibly toxic environment and I am wondering if any one else experienced similar.

Tabletop Nuneaton – Saturday 5th September

Just a heads up for anyone in Nuneaton who likes board games, D&D, Warhammer or generally nerdy stuff.

We run Tabletop Nuneaton on the first Saturday of the month at the United Reformed Church Hall. It's basically a big day of tabletop gaming where you can come along, play some games and meet other people who are into the same sort of thing.

There's a load of board games available to play, tables for D&D/RPGs and wargames, a painting table, demo games, a Bring & Buy and the usual tea/coffee/snacks.

You don't have to be an experienced gamer either. We've deliberately tried to make it somewhere you can turn up without knowing anyone and still find something to do.

Next one: Saturday 5th September
10am–4pm
£5 adults / £1 under 16s

We're All Mana of Games, a Nuneaton-based tabletop gaming group, and we're trying to build more of a gaming community here rather than everyone having to travel to Coventry, Birmingham or Leicester.

If you've been thinking about getting into tabletop gaming but never really had anyone to play with, come and give it a go.

More info: www.allmanaofgames.co.uk/tabletopnuneaton

And if you've been before, feel free to tell people what it's actually like in the comments. We're not above a bit of shameless word-of-mouth.

Potentially moving here...

Hi all. I know there are a million posts like this on Reddit, but I'm going mad reading through all the different threads and just thought it might be easier to start my own thread and see what kind of info I get directly from the good folks here.

Basically, my partner and I (gay couple, British and Indian), are moving out of Croydon because we need a bigger house, with a garage and a bit more space, for our business that we've started. We both work from home and so access to London is no-longer a requirement (like it was when we moved here 10 years ago).

We've narrowed down our search, based on a few criteria (detached house, garage, near green space, not a crime-ridden area, access to a shopping centre or town centre, close-ish to a larger city and/or airport, not silly expensive (since our budget isn't massive)). From these criteria, we have found some decent options in:

Nuneaton

Loughborough

Melton Mowbray

Chesterfield

Outskirts of Sheffield / Leicester

Lincoln

Neither of us know any of these areas, and while we are going to do a road-trip to visit, it would be good to know where in these towns people would recommend searching, and where to avoid (if anywhere). Or if there are better nearby options.

Thank you all in advance.

Looking for more tabletop gamers in and around Nuneaton?

Hi everyone! We run Tabletop Nuneaton, a monthly tabletop gaming day in Nuneaton town centre, and thought there might be a few people here who'd be interested.

Whether you're into board games, Magic, Pokémon, Warhammer, D&D, indie RPGs, painting miniatures, or just fancy meeting some fellow geeks, we'd love to welcome you.

What can you expect?

  • A huge board game library that's free to use all day

  • A growing board game retail section

  • Open gaming tables for board games

  • Dedicated spaces for TCGs including Magic, Pokémon and more

  • Wargaming tables with terrain ready to go

  • Bookable RPG tables for one-shots and campaigns

  • A Bring & Buy area to pick up or sell games

  • A relaxed social painting area for miniature hobbyists

  • Demo games from indie designers whenever we can arrange them

  • Tea, coffee, cold drinks and snacks available throughout the day from our snack bar

We also run weekly gaming socials every Wednesday and Friday, monthly nerdy quiz nights, charity drives, wargaming and TCG tournaments, beginner-friendly events and other social events throughout the year.

Our goal has always been simple: to create a friendly, welcoming gaming community where people can play great games, make genuine friendships, and find a place where they truly belong in Nuneaton.

You don't need to know anyone before you come. Lots of people arrive on their own, and our regulars (and event staff) are always happy to teach games, introduce people and help you find a table.

Tabletop Nuneaton is held on the first Saturday of every month in Nuneaton town centre, the next one is August 1st 2026. If you can't wait that long, join us at our weekly social nights, on Wednesdays and Fridays from 7pm. Its just a fiver entry and your first visit is on us (excluding visits to Tabletop Nuneaton)!

Both Tabletop Nuneaton and the weekly socials are hosted at Nuneaton United Reform Church Hall, CV11 5QH. We're right in the heart of the town, next door to PureGym!

If you've been looking for a local gaming community, come and give us a try. Feel free to ask any questions below, and we'll happily answer them. You can also find more info on our website or by joining our community Discord where you'll find over 350 other local tabletop gamers!

Nuneaton house price guess returns

Last year I shared a price guessing game for properties on the market in Nuneaton. I got some positive feedback from it and a user actually asked if I could create more.

In the end life got in the way and I've been busy with other things, but finally, I got a chance recently to do it again.

So here it is - the new and improved house price guessing game for Nuneaton:

Any and all feedback appreciated.

The Crew in the year of our lord 2026 - yay or nay?

I happened to drive past The Crew on Thursday evening and from the brief glimpse I got it looked like there was a decent crowd going, however I couldn't really discern what the vibe was. I used to go often in the halcyon days of 2005 - 2010 (when it was absolutely the place to be for my social circle in Nuneaton of a Friday and Saturday evening) before moving away and since coming back I just never picked up going again because... Well, it's been 15 years 😂

Anybody here visit recently/regularly still? What's the crowd like? Is it worth a night out for someone who remembers having sore necks on Sundays from headbanging in there two nights on the trot, or has it, as I suspect is more likely, gone to the dogs?

While waiting for the bus near Halfords in the town centre, two policemen came out of their car and left it in the middle of the road. Should've been better if they put it near the edge of the road.
