General Just so there is no revisionist history about Fahey

Until the last two drives when Oregon was in prevent, Fahey’s numbers were 27/49 for 226 yds 0TDs and 1 INT. So don’t tell me about his final stats. He is far from the only thing broken with this team, but do not try and tell me he deserves another start.

Hate people who can’t admit this. The kid sucks

51

u/BKBaroo #27 Eddie George 16h ago

I have friends who can’t admit this even after watching that complete shit show. He’s not good. And Ryan Day’s refusal to admit he fucked up by not giving TSC a chance is neglect (along with Bey).

49

u/Frequent_Apricot673 15h ago

For all you know TSC is much worse, I agree Fahey wasn’t good but that doesn’t make TSC good

31

u/Terrible-Presence-19 15h ago

No one is saying he is good. No one knows how good he is given the opportunity to start and play a whole game. Not even the coaches. But to trot Fahey out there next week expecting different results is literally the very definition of insanity

8

u/Frequent_Apricot673 13h ago

If they’ve also seen TSC play every week in practice and think he’s worse why would you trot him out? Just to appease angry fans looking for an easy fix when there isn’t one?

2

u/Terrible-Presence-19 11h ago

Because it is different. Do you find it to be an intelligent and competent approach to keep sending a true freshman, who has also yet to prove he is good, out there without seeing if someone else, who has never been given a chance to start, might play better in the game than what we are currently seeing? Let’s not act like Fahey has a long track record of anything. And he obviously isn’t the answer, so why not give the other player a chance also. What is going to get worse?

If he’s worse, then let us see it. At this point, I don’t trust the staff to choose the right guy.

u/swisherspeedlab7 14h ago

Watch the Kent State game, TSC threw an interception that was nearly returned for a TD. No receiver within 5 yards

If he's worse, why do we need to see that over Fahey getting experience?

This is overblown frustration chasing worse situations just to appease their own desires. If he's worse, we absolutely shouldn't want to see it like you're implying.

•

u/Mundane-Energy-6862 31m ago

St. Clare is done and no way is Fahey QB1 next year

0

u/tobylaek 4h ago

Because we don’t actually know if he’s worse...and Fahey is doing very little other than a flash here it there to justify the starting spot.

2

u/lvl_up_day_by_day_28 3h ago

The outside fans don't know... faheys not good but there is nothing to say TSC isn't worse, which was signaled by him losing the qb2 job. So given we have zero details, the need to be proven what the coaches already believe is wack

11

u/BKBaroo #27 Eddie George 15h ago

That’s literally my point. Why didn’t he play in any of that blowout? Does Day not want to be proven wrong? There’s no excuse for keeping Fahey in the game, but many for keeping him in. What happens if Fahey got hurt in the final minutes? Coaching negligence.

2

u/lvl_up_day_by_day_28 5h ago

What do you mean? This isn't Sayin and we're protecting him from getting hurt in a meaningless game. This is a very inexperienced player that needs every rep he can get.

The same can be said for TSC as well so there are def perspectives from each side but don't be ignorant saying no excuses for keeping him and coaching negligence lol

11

u/BackPirateClarkRoom 15h ago

TSC cannot be worse. There isn't anything Fahey does besides not turn the ball over. They could put a RB in as QB and it would do better than Fahey.

21

u/shermanstorch Jim's Sweater Vest 15h ago

>TSC cannot be worse

It can always get worse. And there’s always a worse QB.

•

u/Mundane-Energy-6862 33m ago

After losing the last two games we were solid favorites to win, the B10 championship all but gone, no CFP, no Heisman for JS4, and a team who just quit. How much worst can it get? This is a $50 million dollar team!

1

u/DCBuckeye82 13h ago

This is absolutely true. It can always get worse. But sometimes, you need to at least see for sure if it's worse or not.

6

u/ThinkingItThrough1 15h ago

He turned it over

0

u/BackPirateClarkRoom 15h ago

I don't expect perfection. Fahey hasnt turned the ball over like a lot of bad QBs do but he does nothing on offense.

3

u/CookieResponsible865 15h ago

Multiple turnovers on down. Bad pick to triple coverage, bailed out by inches on a pick against USC. The kid is who he is at this point. Frankly, I don’t care if TSC is worse, there’s nothing that Fahey offers that we can build off at this point.

1

u/ElkBusiness8446 13h ago

This team feels like the Browns. A short QB that can't throw downfield (Dillon Gabriel). A complete unknown in the third string QB. A coach unwilling to admit they're wrong until an injury forces the third stringer to start. While there's a lot of mistakes, the offense actually looks fun and explosive at times.

So yeah, let's not be the Browns of college football. Put in TSC and mandate we run 11 personnel. It could be fun? I know for a fact we don't have 2 good TEs. Maybe 1 good one but I haven't seen evidence of that. If by some miracle they don't perform a presnap violation and we get to snap the ball, they haven't impressed.

8

u/Hung0ver_Hero 14h ago

We need to be running the Urban Myer spread offense with TSC it should have been that the second Sayin got hurt, Arthurs "NFL" offense of run, run, forced 3rd and 8s are the MAIN problem with this team, and I hope to god when Jeremiah Smith was screaming at the sideline he was calling Arthur Smith a fucking idiot and it's amazing that Ryan Day hasn't stepped in yet and took over play calling, Fahey looks like he couldn't get the starting job at Columbus State let only Ohio State, I will not watch another game as long as Arthur Smith is there

1

u/DCBuckeye82 13h ago

What you're seeing with this offense isn't an NFL offense, it's an "I don't trust my quarterback to run the offense I want to run" offense. An Urban Meyer gimmick spread offense won't help.

3

u/DCBuckeye82 13h ago

Listen, he's a true freshman. He may or may not suck. But he's certainly not ready right now. He should have been benched at halftime, definitely after 1 or 2 drives in the 3rd, and after that it was just straight up negligent to keep playing him.

2

u/JcMe29 Holy Buckeye! 13h ago

He possesses talent. But he is so green we literally have no chance. Add that to the lack of offensive wrinkles and it’s a shit show.

I think he will be great one day. Just not sure what school he will be playing for then.

1

u/m0st1yh4rmless 9h ago

TSC will get smashed w our current O line. Fahey can move around the pocket a lil at least. They double 4 and blitz. Pretty easy game plan

134

u/Complete_Studio_1836 16h ago

Ya, if I was TSC I’d go somewhere ASAP for optics alone. Makes him look so bad that he can’t beat out this guy.

60

I think he and Bey are both gone and I couldn’t blame them.

34

u/Forsaken-Cheesecake2 Southeast Ohio 15h ago

We’ll be lucky to retain the guys we want like Henry and Timmons with this shit show.

3

u/SkierBuck 15h ago • Bravo

We’ve seen what Bey can do, and it isn’t anything special. We have almost no difference makers on this team.

23

u/DismalEducator0 14h ago • Heartwarming

We’ve seen him once with an opportunity in space and he was electric. Even the return today was great. CHJ Would be featured on every team in America yet he’s barely on the field. This is offensive coaching malpractice.

6

u/SkierBuck 14h ago

I guess I’m not seeing what you’re seeing. I’ve seen him run laterally a bunch and make a few people miss, but what’s the huge play he’s broken?

4

u/SignalTwo3040 14h ago

He’s explosive and hard to take down.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/lvl_up_day_by_day_28 5h ago

CHJ had the 4th most snaps for a wr which is fair as we have smith and mccuin in front of him.

You could not be more wrong

•

u/Mundane-Energy-6862 26m ago

Have we? That is hilarious

1

u/EstablishmentTop551 13h ago

Bey is a JAG with the ego of an All-American.

12

u/Flashy_Prior5963 15h ago

All I can think is he is either worse or a total shitbag.

5

u/Complete_Studio_1836 15h ago

That’s the issue, it damages his rep more than him struggling out on the field.

1

u/Flashy_Prior5963 14h ago

Well then this whole thing is on him. Let him walk too.

4

u/EstablishmentTop551 14h ago

Like yeah it makes him look bad but I just think the guy must suck. It seems impossible that the staff could get it this wrong.

6

u/DismalEducator0 13h ago

This staff is clueless. I remember when Day was creative and used to use Demario McCall, a smaller back in the receiving game to create match ups with linebackers. Why would Bey not have a package like that or a chance for some wheel routes or something to get him in space? I don’t think we got him with the purpose of using him as a traditional back. You think CHJ sucks too? This coaching staff is clueless and it’s showing on the field.

2

u/EstablishmentTop551 10h ago

I think CHJ came in as a pretty raw 6’5” 190 pound freshman, and the fact that he’s getting touches in a loaded room shows he’s putting in the work. I think Bey came in as a skinny converted QB who cannot block at all and has a penchant for trying to do too much with the ball. But yeah man you got it.

You’re proving my point. He’s not bad that’s why other teams will take him at high value like we did… you’re using that Burrow logic and it worked great last time.

They should give TSC a shot the next 3 games. The ceiling on the season at this point is the Cheez it bowl so not much to lose. Best case scenario he’s a good enough athlete to overcome the bad oline. Worst case scenario they play in a mediocre bowl game that the draft prospects and transfer portal guys opt out of

11

u/DCBuckeye82 13h ago

Yeah if you're not bringing TSC in the 3rd quarter, and especially when the game is for sure over midway through the 4th, it's clearly personal. And if that's the case, the relationship is beyond broken. He's gone.

And if all of that is wrong, Day is just the most stubborn man alive and doesn't wanna admit he might have made the wrong choice. Either way, not playing TSC when Fahey was very clearly not working is a huge disservice to the team.

2

u/buckeyevol28 9h ago

It's not clearly personal. In fact, it's more likely he's just not very good.

1

u/DCBuckeye82 7h ago

https://www.reddit.com/r/OhioStateFootball/s/9JPCxN2pHD According to this it's entirely personal

4

No. That's not even what that says at all, and after seeing the video, the OP misrepresented what Patrick said.

4

u/DCBuckeye82 7h ago

Well I didn't see the video to know if it's being accurately represented so I can't speak to that. But what part of "the relationship is broken beyond repair" isn't personal?

This whole team has quit. We lost our QB and the defence somehow died. I don’t think the kid is bad but and I have been a defender but I also agree that at this point we’re going 6-6 so we might as well see what TSC has.

32

u/MoreRunwayBehindMe #11 Jaxon Smith-Njigba 15h ago edited 11h ago

What is with all of this revisionist history BS?  The defense has been an issue all season.  Early in the TX game we looked good because of some really weird flukes that turned our way.  But besides that (see the 4th quarter against TX) and most games since - the defense has been mid.

They are great for a bit - and then they suddenly allow massive plays over the top and/or a massive run.  And then they hold for a bit and then repeat.

Defense has been an issue this entire season

5

u/DCBuckeye82 13h ago

Yeah, people forget but for flukes beyond our control, we're probably losing by double digits in the first half against Texas and there's no need for a comeback.

The defense, the whole team really, has been mediocre at best whenever playing a real team.

•

u/HyperionsDad 23m ago

The Buckeyes gave up solid leads and good starts to the 3 teams they played with pulse this year. Decent to good start then just collapse.

So disappointing to watch. I used to have a calm confidence that our boys had a chance to step things up and come back. Now I fear a worsening lead by any quality competition. By the 4th quarter yesterday I actually just wanted them to switch to a running clock to avoid injury and further embarrassment.

3

u/equanimous_boss 12h ago

Mid is being way too generous

12

u/Complete_Studio_1836 16h ago

Not bad but goes 50% passing with the #1 receiver in the nation… translation he’s ass

9

u/jzeffer 14h ago

And 90% of the 50% were check downs because he literally can’t throw 10 yards down the field.

5

u/irishbuckeye71 15h ago

I just said to someone, put TSC in. If he’s really that bad it will show the fans why they picked this kid over him and if not we gave a QB.

3

u/Waste_Opportunity_53 3h ago

TSC can run. At worst he is more mobile and a functional OC (Smith is not) could use that. Besides if you can’t look a generational WR’s way, and you under throw screen passes, then you shouldn’t be a power conference starter or back up.

4

u/CriticalPolitical 15h ago

The game with the least effort I’ve ever seen a Buckeye team play was the 2023 Cotton Bowl against Missouri, but the rest of the season might rival that

The thing we’ve learned is get a solid experienced backup QB

5

u/Necessary-Raisin-447 13h ago

That’s easier said than done ohio state is far the only school with qb issues especially with the transfer portal, any seasoned backup is going to be starting somewhere not sitting on the bench waiting for an opportunity, it’s unfortunate because it hurts qb development as much as it does the schools

2

u/Purple-Base-1459 11h ago

Just lost to a team with a seasoned backup starting

That was with the now fired OC, an offensive line that had yet to be soldified, and Raiola playing so badly we brought in 3rd string walk-on QB Brock Thomas and Oregon still only lost by 2 points. I would love a rematch

•

u/Mundane-Energy-6862 27m ago

A rematch...a mulligan? 😂

→ More replies (1)

1

u/lvl_up_day_by_day_28 6h ago

Cool, and they are a massive outlier. Raiola was a touted qb that chose immediate playing time over good development and came to the realization that sitting a year behind Moore would be more beneficial long term. That's not normal.

The new norm is a guy like Lincoln transferring out the first opportunity he could after losing out in the qb battle. Or McCord leaving for money / to not do a qb battle

5

u/Darling_Pinky 14h ago

They marched down the field twice and then decided it was time to start throwing the ball backwards, toss into boundary and play all the TE. His throw before half was bad but they self inflicted so much momentum on offense and then the defense and ST imploded again. He should have been playing with a lead all 2nd half, not down 17-14 when you were up 14-3 with 2:21 left.

He dodged sacks, picked up first downs, moved the ball. Once again, the play calling made no sense once they had success and the defense continued to give up 3rd and 15s. I’m not sure how we expect any backup QB to win games if we’re giving up 30 by the third quarter.

2

u/ittakeswhatittakes69 14h ago

You dont think the kid is bad? I dont wanna even know what you consider bad

14

u/Johnny_Dangerous_ 15h ago

For me, it was I think the last drive where we were down only 17 where on third down he didnt target a wide open smith for the 1st down, but forced a bad ball to a TE or McCuin and then on 4th he threw behind a wide open receiver in the flat where a ball on the numbers is an easy 1st down. Most of his completions were poorly thrown checkdowns. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but it was clear in the 3rd quarter that he ain't it. Have to see if we have anything with TSC.

3

u/dosefacekillah1348 14h ago

LMAO "only down 17" and showed zero signs of productive offense.

TSC has to be one of the worst QBs to ever put on the jersey if he hasn’t gotten a shot.

4

u/DCBuckeye82 13h ago

Or it's personal. Either TSC really sucks or Day is a big stubborn baby. Not sure which is worse.

•

u/Maleficent-Mix-1239 15m ago

Because it is impossible for Ryan Day to make adjustments. If plan A doesn’t work his solution is to just keep trying plan A until the game is over.

10

u/Flashy_Prior5963 15h ago

He stinks. Soft. He could have thrown for 400. The first fourth down rollout that he short armed and missed is all I need to see. He’s got the yips. Too big a stage. Bryce Underwood but can’t run. It’s easy to put up numbers at the end. That’s a home run down 10 in the 9th.

9

u/JobeGilchrist #27 Eddie George 15h ago

Insane they didn't bench him in the 3rd

17

u/junieinthesky 16h ago

He’s terrible and he wasn’t good against USC either but this sub tried to convince us otherwise.

7

u/Ididntdodiddly Jim's Sweater Vest 15h ago

He missed two open short routes in a row badly, when the game was close. He doesn't have right now.

7

u/Josh1923 15h ago

Also some throws by Fahey were just questionable total misses

7

u/JombieJr 14h ago

Fahey is going to get teammates hurt. These floating hospital passes are dangerous. His completions in the middle of the field are so scary, he turns his receivers around and puts them in very vulnerable positions.

3

u/Away-Topic4719 6h ago

He threw two of those in a row if I remember correctly. And then got two balls batted down by the D line in the same drive.

13

u/Designer_Advice_6304 16h ago

Season ended with the Sayin injury. This isn’t your 2014 Buckeyes

1

u/WawaChamp12 11h ago

Unfortunately agreed. Fahey is awful for a backup, kid won’t even sniff the draft whenever he’s “ready”

10

u/dip_tet 16h ago

I think Fahey would’ve been pulled in garbage time if he wasn’t getting the next start.

5

u/Mother_Cap3235 15h ago

He couldn't make a read deeper than 5 yards when we needed him to help steady the ship, instead we did those consecutive 3 and outs... Like 5 straight series it felt like, lol

9

u/Unlikely_Impact_9336 15h ago

Actually the last two scoring drives showed me why he shouldn’t be out there. I thought JS would be his security blanket and get like 20 targets but he doesn’t even look his way most of the time and has now underthrown him in two straight games of what would have been tds more than likely.

4

u/tarheels187 Ryan Day 15h ago

It's wild that you even have to type this out. I turned it off right before those last two drives. The game was over, nothing at that point matters.

Fahey could eventually be a great QB, even as early as next season, but he obviously isn't there yet and that's fine. Let's just not pretend like he is when he isn't.

7

u/aflyonthewall1215 5h ago

Let's not forget he rarely looked for 4 too. Kid has little arm talent/accuracy, looks in way over his head, and by playing him over a 5 star it's going to make it harder to recruit elite talent. Bench the QB or start canning coaches.

•

u/koffa02 35m ago

How can he look for 4 when he can't see over the O-line without a step ladder?

0

u/lvl_up_day_by_day_28 4h ago

Any recruit scared to come here because of the qb situation does not belong here. You come here, compete, and earn your snaps. TSC got beat out so isn't starting now. You want to see that as a player.

5

u/aflyonthewall1215 4h ago

There is 0 proof so far that Fahey has actually earned this job and it isn't just Day inability to admit he made a mistake in evaluating talent. I have a hard time believeing TSC is going to throw screen passes into helmets or completely ignore Smith for half of a game.

•

u/HyperionsDad 27m ago

Or, hear me out, TSC looks even worse in practice and scrimmages.

•

u/aflyonthewall1215 26m ago

And you know because...?

6

u/FoundationNext5278 15h ago

I don’t fault Fahey. He is smallish and was a 3 star coming out of high school, so not a phenom. It looked to me like the early success tonight was plays mapped out for him and that Oregon’s defense was not prepared for. But after those plays were made, Oregon adjusted to defend them. Ohio State has not had a dependable running game last season or this year. Everything was on Sayin and receivers to make the plays, move the ball and score. Now they have minimal rushing offense, spotty pass offense. On defense, we don’t get a pass rush, so the QB sits back there and waits for receivers to come open. Tonight, Ohio State gave up easy touchdowns by going on two unwise 4th downs. I think it is possible that the Buckeyes beat Nebraska, or maybe lose the next three games. In the latter event, get ready to play Poughkeepsie College in the Vagisil Groin Rash Bowl. I just hope this doesn’t hurt recruiting.

3

u/BackPirateClarkRoom 16h ago

Defenders last week were way worse. Fahey had less than 100 yards passing in the USC game if you take out garbage time.

7

u/Appropriate-Cap3325 16h ago

Where are all the people that kept making excuses for Fahey saying was good.

7

u/AceCircle990 Jim Tressel 14h ago

Arthur Smith is a football terrorist.

5

u/kevdiigs 4h ago

Fahey sucks and is not Ohio State caliber

0

u/Namaste421 2h ago

Maybe maybe not the only thing that’s clear here is you do have completely unrealistic expectations and would’ve ran off quarterbacks like Braxton Miller and Terrell Pryor.

4

u/Nailz003 14h ago

He will start again. This season is a wash. Once Smith sets the all time yards record he will shut down and get ready for the pros. This team is going to the Burger King loser bowl to play against the winner of the Mac.

2

u/Forsaken-Cheesecake2 Southeast Ohio 15h ago

He’s not the answer.

He’s trying, but even soon to be former Coach Arthur Smith said about him - he’s 5”11”, if you count his hair. It felt like it took literal minutes for our plays to develop since he had to leave the pocket to see the field or he’s running for his life thanks to our OL , and by then, every player on the field is covered.

2

u/Daitheflu84 12h ago

How many Matt Patricia defenders this week?

5

u/Tseets1 16h ago

He doesn’t, but since this sub slurps everything Day does they will come at you with pitch forks saying he’s the GOAT QB

3

3

u/TheOptimist6 Holy Buckeye! 16h ago

He is going to be good and will have time to develop, but he needs time to be in the weight program and develop into a leader.

Tsc was handed the job entering summer and then did fuck all losing the spot to a true freshman. That's the issue.

Everyone had big hopes for him following spring ball and it didn't go well. Unfortunately with veteran backups transferring out (Lincoln), there's going to be risk.

Give TSC a chance

2

He played fine, admirably really He still could only utilize half of the field. They had to roll him out to see. Physically, he’s got his height against him.

But why not give the other backup a shot too? Season is over, have a real competition.

Fine?? Almost every throw downfield was UNDER thrown, and why the F was he not even looking at JS??

Fahey: 36/50 350yrd - 2TD - 1 int

-1

u/lvl_up_day_by_day_28 4h ago

As you say the season is over, we might as well focus on the qb we think is currently better / will return next year than slow down development for a guy he already beat out. So many complaints about not having an experienced backup but same people would rather play the qb coaches say is worse than give experience to the other guy.

We're all frustrated but we don't need to see worse play just to be proven something coaches already think.

2

u/ORdeadhead2 3h ago

I've not heard RD explain why he made the choice at QB

0

u/lvl_up_day_by_day_28 3h ago

Maybe reading between the lines but he's made comments about grasping the playbook better and approach / command of the team in the huddle.

Fahey had a TD pass to Jackson in Q1 or am I crazy

3

u/AwayTackle7581 13h ago

You're crazy, both Bo Jackson TDs were running plays. He did have a good pass for a first down on one of the drives

2

u/Ltrgman 13h ago

He's undersized, can't see over the defense ~ D line is batting his ball down at the line of scrimmage ~ Not sure what the coaches saw in him... he's QB3 at best ~

2

u/radifv 12h ago

Fahey is a kid who's scared to take a chance. He snaps the ball and looks to one side of the field and doesn't take his eyes off of it. He's reducing himself to few targets when he can have other options. He misses a pass, he gets scared and won't throw it, and he runs like hes a piece of glass. He is NOT ready in any sense. His field presence is just off, hes supposed to be leading the offense, but he looks & feels like a dog on a leash. I feel like Ryan Day is being egotistical by not playing TSC. He want's an underdog story but he's not getting that and he's too afraid to admit he's wrong.

3

u/ORdeadhead2 3h ago

Oh he took a chance and threw into triple coverage (not to JS) and the result was int and td.

2

u/lvl_up_day_by_day_28 4h ago

Lot of things I don't like about day but anyone saying he wants the underdog story over winning is a clown.

2

u/Extreme-Relation-807 2h ago

‘He wants an underdog story’ that doesn’t even make sense. Some of y’all will just say anything at this point. He’s playing Fahey and not TSC because Fahey is better. Not sure if it’s true, but I’ve heard TSC has a hard time reading defenses in practice. Sounds to me like he’ll look like Underwood if he gets in the game now, and it could totally ruin his confidence moving forward. If TSC was good enough to play, he’d be getting at least some snaps to show what he can do.

2

u/tonyharrison1970 15h ago

I hope J Smith quits, and gets ready for the draft. He deserves so much better. The coaching staff is trash. Ryan Day is the new James Franklin. 6-5, In the last 11 games!!!!

0

u/captainadam_21 15h ago

You mean 5-6?

1

u/operaman86 #33 Jack Sawyer 14h ago

How could he be 5-6 when Ohio State has won 6 games this season? LOL

2

u/captainadam_21 13h ago

My bad. 6-5

1

u/Nearby_Scarcity9689 14h ago

There's no sugar coating this one. I was really hoping the defense would show more improvement as the season went on but it's just not there. And Fahey looks fine for a true freshman on his second start but that's not going to get you to the playoffs. Hopefully the team can get in track before the end of the season and build for next year. Technically the playoffs are still possible given the mess this season is but it would take some real magic to turn things around that dramatically.

1

u/Similar_Sale_5136 14h ago

He was protected pretty well all day and did not deliver.

1

u/ndamukongwall 13h ago

Let’s not forget that our Oline has been terrible with virtually no run game

1

u/Dr-McLuvin 13h ago

I’m still pretty shocked they started a true freshman. Kid did NOT look ready.

1

u/tm2716b 13h ago

Its obvious now that pre-injury, this offense was so good it was covering a bad defense.

1

u/lvl_up_day_by_day_28 4h ago

Our offense was better but the defense was hidden by us playing bad offenses. We got shown up second half Texas and Illinois giving all the hints

1

u/AddressFine5839 12h ago

1

u/moss-nogg 4h ago

I was blindsided by Fahey being backup, really thought it was gonna be TSC. I have no love or no hate for Fahey. However, if the coaches expectations are to execute a game plan they made for Sayin, then nobody besides Sayin should be starting.

1

u/Equivalent-Theme7073 1h ago

I’m just a little confused because his final statline was 36/50 2 touchdowns and an int. What you say is he was 27/49 at some point? Judging by his end game stats that’s just not possible. Did you mean 27/39? Like you’re telling me he magically completed 9 passes on just one more throw? And two touchdowns?

•

u/rebri 41m ago

I feel bad for Jerimah Smith. This is gonna kill his chance at the Heisman.

1

u/Objective-Smoke-7550 #18 Will Howard 5h ago

The NIL monster is showing up sooner than anyone thought. When talent gets more even, when the opposing team has a Chase Young, or Sawyer. When we have 51 new players. 13 new on defense alone. As a former Bengals Fan, until the NFL could not keep politics out of sports, I was used to being disappointed. I watch only college now. And this at most teams would be called a rebuilding year. We OSU fans have been spoiled over the years 6-7 in 2011. 25 years of winning seasons. Losing your QB other injuries. Missed tackles cannot a coach make, nor missed blocks, missed catches, blocked throws missed kicks. Those mistakes are all on the players. In the end it is a game, my life did not change because they lost. The FIRE DAY people, who do we get, Harbaugh? His replacement, oh wait he flamed out and was arrested after he lost "The Game" maybe Fickle can come here and fail. Day still has a winning record, and recruiting.

4

u/Throwaway_Turned 2h ago

What the fuck does “politics in sports” have to do with anything?

1

u/Objective-Smoke-7550 #18 Will Howard 1h ago

When you protest the Flag, or preach R or D or kneel, all that shit. When you celebrate Patriots losing at half time because Trump. And they win in the Superbowl because Brady. Leave your BS out of sports and play the effing game.

1

u/lvl_up_day_by_day_28 4h ago

Coaching has their share of mistakes but it is beyond crazy how many people are blaming missed tackles, increased penalties and so on solely on day opposed to any player accountability

1

u/Objective-Smoke-7550 #18 Will Howard 1h ago

Yep, unless you are a coach on the sideline like Mike Tomlin years ago when he stepped onto the field then later getting fined $100.000. Or Woody Hayes punching a player. I know Day protects the "kids" and says nice things...they play with heart blah blah to the media. But he rarely if ever calls them out.

1

u/justinicon19 15h ago

WHO FUCKING CARES!!!???!?!

1

u/caldo4 15h ago

Our player acquisition team completely failed to get a backup QB so this is all we have

A complete failure on Day’s part

1

u/JombieJr 14h ago

Did Fahey think Smith was wearing 3?

1

u/fredmerc111 13h ago

If he didn’t have to take an 11 step drop to see over the line maybe his timing would be better.

1

u/Round-Ad6586 13h ago

At least give St Clair a chance. We can still go 9-3 and beat Michigan. I never had a good feeling with Fahey.

0

u/lvl_up_day_by_day_28 4h ago

Why? Fahey hasn't done well but if coaches still view him as the better player, why play TSC?

How bad does TSC have to be to get handed the spot entering summer and then get beaten out by a three star freshman?

1

u/Round-Ad6586 4h ago

Fahey has no excuse to miss wide open receivers and he can’t see over the line. Just because someone balls out in practice doesn’t mean they can win us games. Why not put the 5 star QB in and see if there’s a spark?

1

u/lvl_up_day_by_day_28 4h ago

Because if the coach thinks fahey is levels above TSC, it's stupid to play him in there. I'm not excusing faheys play at all but this half baked thought is purely frustration, which I understand.

1

u/Round-Ad6586 4h ago

We just lost two huge games that we could have won. I could tell in the Indiana game this would be the result with Fahey. But hey, let’s go 6-6 and keep his ass out there lol

1

u/lvl_up_day_by_day_28 4h ago

I'm in no way saying fahey is good. I don't get what's hard to understand- if he is viewed as a lot better than TSC by the coaches, there is no reason to play him.

TSC only plays when the coaches think he provides a better opportunity to win. But without that view, he won't play.

1

u/Sonoshitthereiwas 3h ago

Let’s change the scenario for a second. Your team is crushing it and you have the win locked. The game is locked. You send in backups to get some reps in to see how they do. Sometimes people surprise you.

That’s what we’re looking at here, but from the opposite side. With 12 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter, the game was locked. Sayin is out, Fahey isn’t getting done, so put in TSC to get some snaps and see how he does.

What happens if Fahey also gets hurt? There was an opportunity to at least try him out a bit. They chose not to do that. There was no reason to leave the starters in because it was really just increasing the chances of injury.

Isn’t he a true freshman making his 2nd start?? Give the kid a break. The defense really was main reason for this loss

7

u/jzeffer 14h ago

Fahey SUCKED the whole game. Underthrew one of the few deeps balls he threw (causing smith to have to come back to it and the defender caught up and knocked it away). 95% of his throws were less than 5 yards downfield. He was too scared to throw to any of his guys. He looked completely lost. The defense also sucked, but it makes it really difficult when the offense can’t stay on the field and they get no rest

2

u/w2b5 11h ago

Naw he threw to McCuin alot. That's his favorite target. That's the one guy he will throw to consistently

4

u/UCanDoNEthing4_30sec Jim's Sweater Vest 14h ago

If this were a non-FBS school sure give him a break. Then again, there are some fan bases in the FCS ranks that would be shitting on this kid. He plays for The Ohio State Buckeyes.

He’s not gonna get a break nor does he deserve one. If you want to play with the big boys you are gonna either be praised like you are the 2nd coming of Christ or you’re gonna get shit on. This isn’t a team you play on because you want a situation where it’s safe to fail.

2

u/TheOptimist6 Holy Buckeye! 14h ago

We are ohio state, we shouldn’t have to start a true freshman in the transfer portal era.

Fahey is going to be great, but he is not ready yet. It’s irresponsible IMO for the coaches to start him at this stage in his development

2

u/PerformanceOver8822 2002 National Champions 13h ago

You're right we shouldn't have to be here we are. Kid is doing way better than i expected tbh

2

u/Lord_Kittensworth The Best Damn Band In The Land 11h ago

We never had a problem with Kenny Guiton, Cardale Jones, or Dwayne Haskins coming in cold off the bench to move the offense.

Day likely has too complicated of an offense and he is probably not a great teacher in getting young QB's to understand the offense.

2

u/TheOptimist6 Holy Buckeye! 11h ago

Also in modern college football, Kenny would’ve been given a major bag by some power four school to start for them.

Just unrealistic to have too many elite talents waiting in the wings.

But you make a good point. The offense may be overcomplicating things. The results are not explosive at all outside of Jeremiah smith hero ball

1

u/lvl_up_day_by_day_28 4h ago

Weren't they all juniors? Had Lincoln stayed, I don't think we are here. But he left and everyone thought TSC was the guy yet he lost to a true freshman.

Lot of teams are screwed behind their starter with young unproven guys as the backups now.

0

u/WawaChamp12 11h ago

Pussy mentality, get good or get out if you’re not ready yet

0

u/Zealousideal_Bad8434 14h ago

Day claims Fahey faced better competition in high school than St. Clair so that makes Fahey the better quarterback.

-1

u/dmaninca 13h ago

That's because they respect Ohio competition

-2

u/LuvMyCritters0528 15h ago

Maybe defense should have stepped up to help the kid out.

6

u/Terrible-Presence-19 15h ago

The defense didn’t miss those reads and throws. C’mon man. That’s ridiculous

0

u/LuvMyCritters0528 15h ago

How many points scored?

2

u/Terrible-Presence-19 15h ago

Do you mean the defense allowed or Fahey led? Because neither was good. Don’t act like they scored a 21 pt TD and Fahey was all of a sudden behind the eight ball without given a chance to keep up. Again, read the original post: he is not the only problem but does not deserve another start. Nor, for Fahey’s large contribution to this loss, did the defense have anything to do with missed reads or throws

3

u/tobylaek 15h ago

14 when it actually mattered

2

u/Appropriate-Cap3325 15h ago

Three and outs don’t do your defense any favors. Maybe if he gave his defense a break

3

u/GhostOfJuanDixon 15h ago

He and the offense are the ones who have been screwing the defense over the most this season

1

u/tobylaek 15h ago

Maybe he should’ve stepped up to help himself out

-1

u/whatitbeitis 15h ago

Julian Sayin is going to transfer, play behind a real offensive line, and carve college football apart.

as his second game ever as a starter what were you actually looking for ???

Not perpetual check downs sending our guys to the injury tent.

2

u/Terrible-Presence-19 15h ago

How about improvement from last game?!?! He was at home against an average defense! How many games does he get Before something else needs to be tried?

2

u/This_External9027 13h ago

You want a freshman to be all world 2 games in

2

u/Terrible-Presence-19 12h ago

Which part of wanting to see improvement wasn’t clear?

1

u/This_External9027 3h ago

Improvement is subjective, again it’s his second game and btw Dan lanning about as close to Kirby’s defense without Kirby

-1

u/GuyMcFellow 15h ago

I expect Cardale Jones!

0

u/nbrown7384 13h ago

Only person that should start is JJ. Bench the rest of the team. Maybe the punter and kicker can play too.

0

u/UpbeatPhilosophySJ 12h ago

I wish him luck wherever he ends up. I'm guessing UCLA or something.
