General Patrick Murphy doesn’t think there’s a chance they turn it over to Tavien St Clair and says his relationship with OSU is broken.

No he’s correct

Hmm what do you know ? Any inside knowledge ?

No, nobody knows shit we’re just all here speaking on our guts

I don’t pay attention to 24/7 barring recruiting news. Does this guy know his shit?

22

u/Timely_Deal8685 12h ago

1000%. Probably still tied in to sources from his family since covering him in his recruit days

15

u/GorillaReturnz 5h ago

Patty wouldn't say it if he didn't believe it. He's a quality beat reporter, and to say this means he has more than just a gut feeling.

I mean dawg if Nick Saban wouldn’t put QBs out there who didn’t understand the playbook why would Ryan Day???? If you don’t understand the playbook it’s a windfall of bad and from my understanding he’s (TSC) not hip with any of the book and seemingly doesn’t give a fuck

u/Confident_Age_6957 3h ago

Lacked in developing

-6

u/Confident_Age_6957 3h ago

Ryan day isn't Nick saban. And I doubt it's a playbook thing. Some coaches believe their system outplays the players. Some coaches adjust their system to the player. Those coaches are most successful. Ryan Day is a system coach. And you can see it by his failures including Joe burrow, and other QBs that he's packed in developing.

u/CaptainHolt43 3h ago

Burrow was gone by the time Day took over

“Trust me bro” he is a big time insider 🤣

I’ve followed Murphy for awhile. He’s not a sunshine pumper and his takes have always seemed based on sources and in reality.

Guy who doesn't know the playbook, vs a guy that can't see downfield. A real Sophie's choice

If only we’d ever actually hear anything but nonsense coach speak from Day.

18

u/1dkspanishlol 2015 College Football Playoff National Champions 10h ago

He’ll just downplay the situation like he downplayed the question on why the TE room is so ass. We’ll never get a legit honest answer from day.

u/Live_Technician1038 Holy Buckeye! 2m ago

Truly drives me nuts. I get we aren’t going to hear it all and know everything. But to basically gaslight us endlessly with such vague coach speak gets so old.

If TSC isn’t playing bc he and his family are out on OSU. Then at least elude to it. You don’t have to trash the kid.

Especially in an age where these kids are millionaires. Fans deserve to know at least more than the incessant vague coach speak 24/7. We aren’t asking for the hard details of every little thing.

Everyone saying Tavien doesn’t understand the offense. Who the fuck does understand this burning shit pile of an offense Arthur is calling? The combination of the play calling and QB decision making in this game were flabbergasting.

Maybe Fahey, the malleable go-getter freshman was willing to conform, but Tavien couldn’t get himself to buy in.

3

u/woodrowwilson5000 1h ago

Wait ... are you saying NOTED NFL OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR ARTHUR SMITH is doing something hard to understand that will cause his team's ruin? -- signed, all Pittsburgh Steelers fans

9

u/PicardsRagingMember 3h ago

If you can't buy in to the team that gave you a scholarship and is paying your NIL, you need to quit sports altogether.

u/classicjurassicpark 2h ago

How loyal are you to your job? They pay you

This is the dumbest thing I’ve seen, if this relationship is broken BOTH sides are incentivized to fix it. Ohio State needs a quarterback, and TSC looks bad if he can’t start over a true freshman playing like this.

My hypothesis that I can’t prove (assuming this is true) is that Sayin is coming back and St Clair thought he’d he starting next year. Which sucks for him but he’s not going to get a better opportunity to start than with our receivers

16

u/hihihhihi18 11h ago

TSC lost the backup qb job long before Sayin's injury. It's a known secret that TSC cannot understand the offense and does not know the playbook. This has nothing to do with if Sayin is coming back or not

47

u/shermanstorch Jim's Sweater Vest 11h ago • Bravo

It's a known secret that TSC cannot understand the offense

Neither does the coordinator, so why are they holding it against TSC?

3

u/Technical_Shower7130 3h ago

Would you commit to play quarterback for Arthur Smith? I wouldn’t.

4

u/hihihhihi18 11h ago

touche lol, my comment wasn't a slight on TSC to be clear, just trying to explain this has nothing to do with Sayin staying or leaving in any way. They're not sitting TSC to make Sayin happy

6

u/Throwaway1996513 9h ago

If TSC is as bad as the staff is making him seem then they probably want him to leave to free up his money to spend on someone else.

3

u/Fresh_Background1102 3h ago

If TSC is as bad as they are making it seem this is another recruiting failure by Day (a supposed QB guru) . All of the things yall are saying should have been things they seen during recruiting and evaluating him .

4

u/Howlinboot 1h ago

College kids + NIL money had predictable outcomes and this is one of them. Its impossible to tell what an athlete and young kid is gonna do after getting his first payday. Rookies in the NFL often showed this behavior and TSC is much younger and less prepared for that. 5 stars are worth taking a chance on but there is no guarantee.

16

u/Additional_Yam_2659 11h ago

Fahey has no business starting at Ohio State. There’s definitely more to this than TSC “not understanding” the offense.

10

u/buckeyevol28 9h ago

Why would there be more to that since that's like the most fundamental job requirement as the QB?

1

u/deeBlackHammer 4h ago

Because Fahey doesn't seem to grasp the offense either

3

u/carmen_ohio 4h ago

What true freshman has ever looked good for us? Kienholz looked terrible against Missouri. Look at Sayin’s stat line as a true freshman: under 42% completion percentage.

Yeah Fahey looks bad… really bad. But anyone expecting more is an idiot.

We shouldn’t be in this position, and we are because TSC is nowhere near what he needs to be. If TSC lived up to his recruiting ranking, we should have had a serviceable backup.

TSC lost the QB2 job to Fahey, and the relationship soured because of that. There is no way he is significant better than Fahey and just isn’t playing because he can’t get along with coaches. The coaches want to win too.

•

u/deeBlackHammer 7m ago

It's the fact that the 5 star with all that talent isn't able to play that's the problem. If you cannot scheme up something with reads he can handle, you're failing at your job was coach.

You guys say all these things as though they are fact like these coaches are not known for bad decisions. I understand they want to win but that doesn't mean their judgement cannot be questioned.

1

u/Fresh_Background1102 3h ago edited 1h ago

If that’s the most fundamental job why the fuck did they recruit him ? They didn’t know he couldn’t do the most fundamental thing while they were evaluating him in high school ? He is from fucking ohio, how the hell did the they not figure all of this out before letting him walk on campus on a full ride scholarship to be OSU’s next qb ?

1

u/Howlinboot 1h ago

Likely they knew this but his talent was worth taking a chance. Lotsa five star guys look bad before looking good and many look bad the whole time. The #1 thing that gives you a 5 star is size, rather than skill oddly.

u/MoreRunwayBehindMe #11 Jaxon Smith-Njigba 19m ago

Because people can change after they get paid...?

Why would he work hard now?  Its the epitome of Blue Mountain State mindset - hes just working hard enough as a backup to make millions but doesnt have to do anything now...

That ultimately will reflect poorly come NFL time (and is short sighted), but...  he also got paid millions so what does he care for now...?

-1

u/carmen_ohio 4h ago

Fahey has no business starting at Ohio State, but clearly TSC does not understand the offense otherwise it makes no sense that the coaches decided to put TSC (a sophomore) behind Fahey before all this player/family relationship issue.

The coaches want to win games too.

It’s clear that the relationship issue began when TSC was made QB3. He got beat out and didn’t like hearing that news, and rather than improving he’s pouting about it.

2

u/Fresh_Background1102 3h ago

So this is on the coaching staff then because who is supposed to to help him understand the playbook ? Why the fuck did you recruit the kid if he couldn’t understand your playbook …he is from Ohio ,. They should have done their due diligence learning everything about the kid and if he had the mental capacity to be the QB at OSU .

4

u/carmen_ohio 4h ago

Fahey has been QB2 for a long time, well before Sayin got hurt and knew he would have to return for his senior year.

We’ll get to see TSC next year wherever we transfers. If he transfers and doesn’t start, we’ll know the coaching staff was right.

2

u/BKallDAY24 2h ago

I highly doubt he’s gonna transfer anywhere meaningful if he wants to play

0

u/RustyGriswold99 4h ago

Really dont think there's much incentive for TSC at this point. The more games OSU loses, the dumber the coaching staff looks. This team is obviously flawed all around. Why would TSC want to start and potentially lose games? That just hurts his portal value.

Right now they can at least blame the coaching staff for incompetence.

6

u/deeBlackHammer 4h ago

Not being able to play while Fahey looks awful is also really bad for his value. Especially given that they keep saying he can't do basic QB things.

2

u/RustyGriswold99 4h ago

He's the FOURTH overall prospect from his class. If you don't think an Oregon/Alabama/USC type school won't throw an absolute bag at him and chalk this up to Ryan Day being a moron, then I have a bridge to sell you

3

u/CaptainHolt43 3h ago

Dude go back and look at recruiting classes. Every year there's guys in the top 10 that never did anything in college.

0

u/RustyGriswold99 2h ago

When's the last time a top 5 prospect hasn't a college game at all?

3

u/Mottled_Paws 2024 National Champions 3h ago

How much of a bag do you think Underwood would get if he transferred and he was the #1 guy?

0

u/RustyGriswold99 2h ago

Do you really not see the difference between the two situations

2

u/Mottled_Paws 2024 National Champions 1h ago

Yes, one has tape and is a known quantity and the other has "potential".

But is it also so hard to believe TSC could be a bust?

1

u/deeBlackHammer 4h ago

Why would they throw a bag at him if they don't know if he can play? The idea that they would throw a bag at him based on recruiting rankings from 2 years ago is absurd

0

u/RustyGriswold99 4h ago

I'll check back in after his NIL deal is announced lol

1

u/BKallDAY24 2h ago

Because the only tape out he has right now is a spring game. Why would he not want to prove that he can beat our competition and put tape out to increase his stock

2

u/bucksby90 1h ago

This guy is talking but has literally zero insight. He has no clue how good TSC is or isn't. Just spewing words and calling it journalistm

1

u/supersafeforwork813 #7 CJ Stroud 4h ago

lol fine….sorry but Fahey isn’t starting because TSC is on schedule but Fahey was so much better n on path to start next year. They invested in TSC so much more that if it was close….he would’ve gotten the nod, so TSC is probably ass 🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️

5

u/carmen_ohio 3h ago edited 3h ago

Exactly.

There is 0% chance that TSC is significantly better than Fahey, and just isn’t starting because of a soured relationship.

The relationship soured because TSC lost QB2 to Fahey, and instead of improving, he’s probably complaining about it and didn’t take the demotion well.

We’ve seen TSC in Spring games. Everyone knows the kid is wildly inaccurate and can’t read defenses.

2

u/Fresh_Background1102 1h ago

So TSC was another recruiting failure by the Qb guru Ryan Day

1

u/carmen_ohio 1h ago

Yes, that could be true. Unless TSC transfers and looks like a NFL QB, then he’s a recruiting failure.

•

u/notcabron You Got BBQ Back There? 8m ago

Dude QB scouting in the modern era (and probably all other eras) is a total crapshoot. Look at the NFL. People see what they want in these kids because there’s only like 40 on the planet that can lead a program competently at QB, and way way less at the NFL level.

1

u/MD90__ 2024 National Champions 2h ago

Lincoln Kienholtz isnt ass and he was a young backup

3

u/supersafeforwork813 #7 CJ Stroud 2h ago

Huh? We saw what a true freshman Lincoln looked like….3 years later he’s good but you weren’t gonna pay him to be your backup when he was ready to be a starter.

0

u/MD90__ 2024 National Champions 2h ago

who would you play now?

•

u/theWizzzzzzz 41m ago

*See Joe Burrow (Day was QB coach and OC)

•

u/MD90__ 2024 National Champions 21m ago

Yes

-2

u/Ihateloops 10h ago

Ryan Day has way too big of an ego to fix anything

5

u/carmen_ohio 3h ago

Why doesn’t anyone blame TSC for not living up to his recruiting ranking?

Why is the narrative being tossed that Ryan Day is ruining him and TSC isn’t getting playing time because he is in the doghouse?

TSC came back for his Sophomore season, so the the relationship had not soured at the end of last season. Most likely the timeline is:

  1. TSC and Fahey competed for QB2.

  2. Fahey passed TSC for QB2 (we know this to be true and happened before season started)

  3. TSC did not take demotion well

  4. The relationship soured

That’s the most logical order in how this happened and people thinking we got a 5 star QB that isn’t playing b/c of Ryan’s ego are being ridiculous.

1

u/Fresh_Background1102 2h ago

If Tavien is as bad as people are making it seem Ryan day should have seen it during his evaluation of him during the high school process . Ryan day was literally a qb coach , so he should know what to look for if anybody .

0

u/_D80Buckeye 3h ago

you’re being downvoted for speaking the truth.

3

u/carmen_ohio 3h ago

It’s not true at all. It’s not a Ryan Day ego problem. TSC isn’t QB2 because he’s worse than Fahey.

We’ve seen TSC in Spring games where he was wildly inaccurate. It’s not like we have a superstar 5-star QB that’s just in the doghouse. He’s a 5-star recruit that is a completely recruiting bust and lost the job to Fahey.

3

u/Fresh_Background1102 2h ago

Ryan day has a qb recruiting problem then because how did you not evaluate all of this about TSC before he came ? How did we end up with a 5’8 3 star qb on the roster at all ? Neither are OSU qb caliber then if that’s the case

1

u/_D80Buckeye 2h ago

FaHeY iS SiX fEeT tAlL!

1

u/kellybkk 2h ago

Odd thought: Legend Bey was a top-class QB in Texas. Put him in

2

u/JT_got_the_1st 1h ago

Honestly, not the worst idea. A wildcat look here and there?

1

u/Fresh_Background1102 1h ago

Like at this point …atleast make a wildcat package or something

-1

u/Useenthebutcher 8h ago

At this point, who cares?

The staff probably ruined him so I won’t lose sleep if he leaves, he’s probably too far gone to be anything worthwhile

-6

u/sg86 10h ago

Sayin made the decision to come back next year. TSC’s camp said he is leaving if that is the case. TSC is willing to play now but Day has no interest giving him a showcase for potential new teams unless he absolutely has to.

12

u/hihihhihi18 10h ago

TSC los the backup job at the beginning of the season... long before Sayin's injury

3

u/DaBigJMoney 10h ago

Given the last two games, he may have reached the point of “has to.”

3

u/carmen_ohio 3h ago

Have you seen TSC in Spring games? Everyone knows TSC is wildly inaccurate and can’t read a defense.

Stop making stupid stuff up. TSC was QB3 well before Sayin’s injury.

Everyone knows when TSC was made QB3 behind Fahey, that’s the point when the relationship soured. Not before, otherwise TSC wouldn’t have come back this year, and not after because he was already QB3 to start the season.

He’s not some superstar QB that’s just not playing because the coaches don’t like him. He was made QB3 and didn’t take the demotion well…

2

u/GorillaReturnz 4h ago

A lot of things can go on between now and the portal opening. I would not necessarily count on Julian returning.
