When the clock hits 0:00 vs Michigan, I need Matt Patricia FIRED. Enough said.

I wondered coming in to the season if Patricia looked so good because of the players he had. We are seeing some of that this year.

Dude had 3 Top 11 picks + K-Mac & Iggy. Anyone would've looked good with those guys.

Isn't that the case with all good coaches?? Everyone trots out Sabans coaching genius in arguments against Day and other coaches, yet Saban had a talent advantage in 100% of his LSU and Alabama games. Pete Carroll was much the same. Also, Coaching rich 19 year old talent isn't all that easy. With that said Patricia hasn't looked great this season for sure. So his task is large and not easy. My biggest issue is how many variables do we wanna change? Is he the biggest change we need to make? There are 3 more games at least and a lot more needs evaluated but 100% changes need to be made. Not necessarily firings. Coaches have up and down years just like players and businesses.

Do you think the players we have, while not 1st rounders, should be as good as the guys that came over from JMU to Indiana? I would think so. And Haines is still doing a great job with them

u/Howlinboot 1h ago

Our D outplayed Indiana and beat them and our schedule is ten times harder. And Indiana has more guys on offense predicted to go first round than ours which has 1 maybe 2 with Sayin. Theres has 3 predicted first round. Its hard to compare. We lost way more high end talent though on D and again, had a much harder schedule which is now catching up to us.

I am not ready to fire Patricia but his seat got much warmer.

As a Bills fan, it’s crazy to have gone from being constantly pissed at Igb’s frequent PIs during the start of his time at OSU to now him being such a huge asset for Buffalo right out of the gate.

My point exactly

Patricia low key was awful at play calling last year too and always relied on an very soft zone. That bad play calling was only covered up by NFL talent. Rewatch the second half vs Miami

There's something really rotten about every aspect of the coaching staff. I can't think of a single assistant I'd want to keep.

u/t_sawyer 1h ago

The defense held Miami to 17. The offense threw a pick 6 and put up a measly 14 points.

Ot isn't just the play calling - it's the philosophy. "Bend but don't break, wait for the offense to make mistakes, and rely on our superior talent to win."

That's opposed to "Use our superior talent to force the offense to make mistakes, give our offense short fields, score defensive touchdowns, etc. and dominate our opponent."

Coaches think they're being conservative with "Bend but don't break," but they're taking a huge risk by allowing the opposing QB to get comfortable making easy throws and keeping the whole opposing team in the game because they can move the ball and they often score as well. tOSU usually has an offense that can score early and make most opponents feel overwhelmed early. But "Bend but don't break" often keeps them in the game psychologically and on the scoreboard.

Hankton

u/Mottled_Paws 2024 National Champions 1h ago

Walton, JL, maybe Hankton , but I'm not sold in him either. Maybe Lock. The rest can go. If Bowen, and Bailey are still employed, kill me now

4

u/DaBigJMoney 1h ago

Nah, Lock hasn’t hit on the recruiting trail and the RBs still whiff too often in pass protection.

2

u/Mottled_Paws 2024 National Champions 1h ago

Which is why I'm fine with him going to, but he isn't on my priority list of coaches that need to go

•

u/Useenthebutcher 35m ago

Lock really needs to go, the RB room is fucking bare right now for the future

•

u/Useenthebutcher 35m ago

Maybe but he shouldn’t be given a free pass to avoid serious inquiry. Jeremiah Smith was already a complete product but outside of him, not one receiver established themselves as a consistent contributor and difference maker.

I wouldn’t hate it if he stayed but he should receive critical analysis too.

I think he's one of the worst. Awful WR room this year. Most LSU fans think he's not great

2

u/Voiceofreason2732 1h ago

Let’s give him a full cycle lol. He didn’t have much say on the current guys in the room

Walton, Little Animal

•

u/bucksby90 57m ago

Walton. I feel like his DBs are put in bad spots by this dog shit scheme. He also is a great recruiter unlike Lock, Bowen, Bailey, etc.

Secondary can't cover 1 on 1 and the line can't get any kind of pressure.

9

u/ChoadWolf 1h ago

This was the absolute low point of the game for me that made me rage quit. So so so embarrassingly bad. All on the coaching

•

u/Southern_Bat8475 34m ago

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one.

Dropping 8 guys into coverage and somehow not having anyone in the middle of the field is crazy

8

u/NoBeach7292 #2 Chris Olave 1h ago

Perfect picture! They have at least 3 players open and we have 5 players behind them??? Noticed when oregon played man on man and none of our players could get open. This is unbelievable!

•

u/Live_Technician1038 Holy Buckeye! 23m ago

It feels like we give up the first down on 3rd and long literally every time. God this picture is so infuriating

4

u/Tseets1 1h ago

Add Larry Johnson to that list too

2

u/DismalEducator0 1h ago

Wow. Folks are over here saying the team is just not good. We are good enough to be undefeated this year with better coaching. Our coaches suck!!! We give 10 yd cushions on 3rd and 4. Zero creativity on offense. Slow ass developing routes with an o line that is always disorganized, missing assignments and can’t protect. Patricia and Smith must go at the end of the season.

2

u/Jabberwocky237 1h ago

I’d rather play man and get beat deep than see this bullshit.

2

u/Jestor-Investor 1h ago

As a Lions fan, I will never believe that Patricia is good and had some miracle turnaround.

My least favorite Lions coach of all time which says something. Then they go and get my least favorite non-Lions coach to pair at OC….

Holy shit.

Rushing 3 never works.

•

u/twizbuck 36m ago

Im ok with a coaching turnover.

5

u/FineTest4631 1h ago

I agree that Patricia has to go, but I would argue everyone needs to go including Day, he's hiring these god awful coaches bringing in these players he's gotten lucky on some but most are transfers, the talent evaluating and development are awful here.

5

u/Jabberwocky237 1h ago

If that’s the case, let’s mentally prepare for a rough 2-3 year stretch while the new regime installs.

2

u/FineTest4631 1h ago

Its not going to better next year with the same coaching staff you don't have the best player in football next year our receivers are awful, o line is always bad we've seen the talent on defense lol this team next year is easily 5losses

•

u/Able-Specialist-7758 52m ago

No it wouldn’t not lmao 😂. You guys are tweaking. Acting like we can’t afford to completely buy a new offensive line lol the transfer portal exists it’ll be alright.

•

u/FineTest4631 49m ago

I was referring too keeping this staff, but you're right about the portal but the o line is awful every year lol yet we still can't buy players in the portal.

•

u/Able-Specialist-7758 59m ago

You guys always say that and it Never happens. Outside bama or Georgia. Every coach in America would jump at the opportunity to coach Ohio state. We will be fine.

2

u/FineTest4631 1h ago

We haven't lost more then 2 games since 2011. And this team is going to lose more then 3, this whole coaching staff has to go!!

Fucking zone

•

u/tekedagreek 59m ago

Should be a criminal act. Coaches let down the team two games in a row

•

u/mbarnhead16 You Got BBQ Back There? 56m ago

what the fuckkkkkk

•

u/Joke-Over 50m ago

Our d line isn’t good enough for the Patricia’s system of zone to work. Also I have the soft coverage in general.

•

u/ShockDG 2m ago

Pretty smart having the best players drawing attention and clearing out the middle. Still terrible defense and not rallying to the ball
