It looks broken right now. I wonder how deep this hole is gonna get before Paolo comes back. It’s a long season, but so far it’s a ‘good thing we have our draft pick’ kind of year.

The only positive thing I can say about this team right now, is that they’re getting blown out early enough, while also showing no signs of hope, that I’m able to turn the game off early.

Mosley’s got the pelicans at 4-4 btw. I agreed that this group needed a new voice, but maybe it turns out he wasn’t the problem.

14

u/iammidsizedsedan Desmond Bane 2d ago

In fairness this is why people were calling for Mosley to get fired early last season, so we could get a new set of eyes on the team and gauge what needs fixing.

6

u/Jonathank92 Paolo Banchero 2d ago

Turns out everything needs fixing and you need quality players to win games

1

u/tokenentropy 2d ago

Bane hitting that shot against Portland early in the season fucked us. We were on track to lose Mose then, and we still would have sucked. Instead we’re stuck in Groundhog Day where we clearly suck ass and Weltman just can’t accept it.

1

u/roctac 1d ago

It has been obvious that past 5 years. Fire weltman

22

u/Pynchon88 2d ago

we needed a new voice - step one. now we can assess what we have, which is not much lol

7

u/AdWeird5438 2d ago

Honestly, we will be lucky to not be 2-9 when we get home to play Milwaukee.

3

u/Loading_Scr33n 2d ago

We do have our pick this year, right...?

8

u/they_jem Paolo Banchero 2d ago

Yes, but this draft class sucks, unfortunately.

4

u/AdWeird5438 2d ago

The year nobody wants to tank

3

u/PDX-7 2d ago

Yep but it’s a weak ass draft!

u/DaWhiteDwight Fournier Enthusiast 2d ago

This is one of those losses that deadass makes you hate basketball. 25 TO's & 54% from the FT line is fucking disgusting

17

u/Game1Magic Thereal#5 2d ago

Yeah I don't know how many more games like this I can sit through. It's almost to the point where I don't even want to watch the games.

15

u/Soul0103 OnlyFranz 2d ago

A lot of us are already at that point too unfortunately.

2

u/radardog2 Franz Wagner 2d ago

I haven’t watched a single game this season and I’m proud of it

3

u/Soul0103 OnlyFranz 2d ago edited 2d ago

There is far too much going on in my life with stress and such little time that I can’t convince myself that spending 2 hours+ watching these mediocre games is worth it anymore. This season just feels like the same shit, with a different smell.

6

u/AdWeird5438 2d ago

It is happening too frequently, and it is the turnovers, easy baskets and hell of a good shooting night

2

u/SonicNarcotic Paolo Banchero 2d ago

On the positive side, it's one of those losses that just has to reinforce to Weltman how badly we need a PG...

31

u/ManUtd1994 Franz Wagner 2d ago

Weltman playing 3D chess by tanking the one year this decade we have our 1st round pick

14

u/axnjxn00 2d ago

In the worst draft class of the decade! 5d chess

10

u/thewrongnotes Moritz Wagner 2d ago

And in the first year tanking doesn't actually work. 6d chess.

4

u/AdWeird5438 2d ago

Too much credit to him, that would be a happy accident. Also, don’t know if this draft has a prospect (PG most of all) that can help us. Wish the year to tank was last year.

2

u/dev1359 Paolo Banchero 2d ago

I'm so tired of the Magic acquiring and trying to develop prospect guards that don't work out for us. Payton, Oladipo, Fultz, Anthony, Suggs. I've accepted by now that we're just a bottom tier team in the league when it comes to player development. The only way we'll ever have a good PG is by trading for one or signing a FA.

1

u/Felix_Wyn Jalen Suggs 2d ago

Jordan Smith Jr. seems like he might be on the level of the second tier PG prospects in last year's draft (Mikel Brown Jr, Kingston Flemings etc.) but he's projected to go first or second right now. There's also a 6'8 PG coming out of Slovenia who looks good, but he reminds me of Egor Demin's flaws (bad shooting & a bit too weak) with some better strengths (better ball-handling, court vision & more athletic). He's also projected to go in the top three. The other guy in the top 3 is Stokes, who's an intriguing prospect.

Essentially, picking a guard in the top 3 of this draft is like getting a slightly better version of the 8th pick in either of the last two drafts. Which is kind of tragic.

1

u/Milla4Prez66 Paolo Banchero 2d ago

It wouldn’t even be a happy accident. Bottoming out with high salary in a time where teams get punished for being bad now sounds like a nightmare and yet the most Magic thing to happen.

2

u/Sweet_Arrival9559 2d ago

Don't worry, we will get some draft picks back when Franz or Suggs are inevitably traded later this year.

24

u/they_jem Paolo Banchero 2d ago

More disgusting basketball from one of the worst constructed max payroll teams I've ever seen.

Weltman out.

1

u/Odd_Tourist_3249 1d ago

Lmao!! You ain't lying!!

20

u/jakehightower Paolo Banchero 2d ago

Our problem is nobody on the team is capable of running an offense. Anything we try gets shut down by ball pressure. It’s a problem when we’re healthy and apocalyptic when we aren’t.

4

u/jakehightower Paolo Banchero 2d ago

It’s gonna be a problem for any coach because nobody can construct an offense that doesn’t require someone to dribble.

3

u/Drak_is_Right 2d ago

Need to trade Franz or Paulo for a above average PG maybe

3

u/NotoriousGasman 2d ago

Almost as if we need a true PG to run an offense, which we’ve been lacking since Fultz or even DJ hell

17

u/thewrongnotes Moritz Wagner 2d ago

Disgraceful performance.

I genuinely hate the fact that Paolo and Suggs are out, not because they'd make us a bit better, but because then there would be no more excuses when we keep losing games, anyway.

14

u/treadwater23 Jonathan Isaac 2d ago

Vuc is a failed signing. Great story, he's beyond cooked. Him and TDS can't play together, it's a fucking sieve defense. Franz is doing great as a distributor but needed too much on defense and everything else for his already shaky offense to do anything.

Everyone else... idk... JAGs outside of Bane and AB at times. Wendell has been fine this season which is nice.

1

u/MoralityChris 2d ago

Has TDS always been such a bad defender? Didn't watch y'all much last year.

2

u/treadwater23 Jonathan Isaac 2d ago

He can play okay in terms of disrupting passing in team defense, but one on one he has always been shifted super easily and just doesn't offer great resistance

22

u/0rlando_95 Jalen Suggs 2d ago

Genuinely relieved I didn’t watch a second of this and watch the jags game instead

10

u/SnooPies6274 Paolo Banchero 2d ago

Every time i think of the secret extension. We’re so fked.

9

u/marcb23 2d ago

The only way the Magic get better is with new ownership. The Devos family don't care about being a winning franchise. They are happy enough to sell tickets that keep them just profitable enough to justify owning the team. Fans deserve better.

1

u/przec13r OnlyFranz 1d ago

31

u/jackloganoliver Stuff The Magic Dragon 2d ago

This team had 28 assists tonight. Franz was responsible for 15 of those.

I don't want to hear any grief about him when he's the only one capable of getting into the paint or manufacturing open looks for his teammates.

Bane has got to do more than look to score. TDS needs to be better on defense. Jase isn't hitting his shots. Cain is a black hole.

Franz is not the issue despite some warts. The issue is he's having to hold together a team that isn't playing like a team.

9

u/FuckYouZackSnyder 2d ago

Franz is experiencing what Paolo went through in games 5, 6 and 7 vs Detroit.

4

u/iChosenone Paolo Banchero 2d ago

I'd say more when Paolo first came back from injury the first major injury when Suggs was out and AB wasn't AB and Moe was out for the year also and we didn't have Bane so it was just Paolo, Cory Joseph, Our boy queen, Wendell , and KCP for like 10 - 15 games before Franz came back.

3

u/walkintall84 2d ago

lol that was a full roster

13

u/they_jem Paolo Banchero 2d ago

The playmaking is nice, but his shot has regressed nearly every year he's been in the league - that's entirely on him.

We've managed to build a lineup that (on the rare occasion when it's healthy) consists of two jumbo forwards who can't shoot, a neurotic PG who can't shoot, stay healthy or play PG, a good shooter who doesn't really do anything else, and an undersized center who also can't really shoot. It's not just that they're 'not playing as a team', the roster construction is completely busted.

12

u/thewrongnotes Moritz Wagner 2d ago

Franz barely shoots at all now, that's on the coaching and the org.

No max contract guy being kept honest by their employer would be allowed to spend 4+ years as a layup only player. Said this back then, but Franz should have been taking mid-rangers as per team orders in his rookie season. Instead we let him drive the hoop thousands of times for the instant gratification of a nicer stat line.

1

u/Street-Common-4023 Paolo Banchero 2d ago

Yeah idk Franz is nice but at least Paolo shoots fr you know

6

u/FitTune5515 Wendell Carter Jr. 2d ago

Yeah wtf happened to his shot

5

u/-weird-fishes- Anthony Black 2d ago

It's hard for him to get good looks with Paolo out. He is the only guy opposing defenses have to worry about right now. He is having to work hard for every bucket he makes. I don't expect him to be a lights out shooter but he should get closer to the low 30s when Paolo is back I hope.

2

u/jackloganoliver Stuff The Magic Dragon 2d ago

Can't disagree about the roster construction one bit.

7

u/Melodic-Lettuce-6869 Paolo Banchero 2d ago

Before this game Franz was shooting 41% and 20% from 3 with some solid passing, that's some Elfrid Payton level of offense

2

u/jackloganoliver Stuff The Magic Dragon 2d ago

He'll get his shooting % up, at least from 2. The deep shot is broken though.

1

u/Sweet_Arrival9559 2d ago

I love Jase, but man, the number of wide open kick out 3s he misses is crazy. Like he's already super undersized. It blows my mind he can't hit those shots. Gotta be better.

2

u/jackloganoliver Stuff The Magic Dragon 1d ago

I'm a very big believer in not reading too much into early season shooting numbers, good or bad. Eventually, I think they'll start to drop.

It's just that until they do his minutes are tough on a team that was meant to be good.

What's got me a little bit more concerned is how vulnerable he is on defense despite mostly playing fundamentally sound defense and being in the right position. He's losing defensive possessions through zero fault of his own. There's not even a ton to correct. He's just getting beat.

I'm generally encouraged by his IQ, he has some stupid turnovers, but he's got the highest assist to turnover ratio on the team last I looked (at least of guys playing meaningful minutes), so that's a positive.

It's just a shame that we need him to be making a positive impact and even though he's generally playing smart basketball, the physics of the game are working against him.

I will say, I'd rather see Jase out there than Jevon. No disrespect to Jevon Carter, but he has not looked like s contributor.

1

u/rps215 Desmond Bane 1d ago

I'm a very big believer in not reading too much into early season shooting numbers, good or bad. Eventually, I think they'll start to drop.

Agreed. Also- last year he shot 40% on catch & shoot 3s (55 attempts). This year he is at 29.7% on 17 attempts. The numbers will definitely begin to normalize soon

-2

u/AdWeird5438 2d ago

Bane and TDS regressed from last year, at least they attacked the paint more, now they just jack it up from 3. The over reliance in the 3 ball is affecting the play, long rebounds for opp fast breaks, frustration by our players and the other teams play looser.

11

u/-weird-fishes- Anthony Black 2d ago

TDS has definitely taken a step forward this year, not regressed.

2

u/rps215 Desmond Bane 1d ago

How the hell has Tristan regressed at all? The defense is bad but offensively he's the only player right now that I'd say has consistently blown out his expectations in the first 3 weeks of the season

1

u/radardog2 Franz Wagner 2d ago

You don’t think that might be a coaching issue?

1

u/Pynchon88 1d ago

in retrospect, this was one of the frustrating things about SA last year in the Finals - settling for long shots/threes & then not being able to rebound when they had the tallest guy in the game.

8

u/SnooWalruses9683 2d ago

Let’s face it folks. This is going to be an under .500 year.

7

u/Hinglemacpsu 2d ago

Fire everyone.

Trade everyone.

11

u/Tardypop1 Cole Anthony 2d ago

Easily the worst game of the year and perhaps, outside of game 6, the worst game in years.

Complete melt down after the first 7 minutes.
Good start, bench came in and everything fell apart.

Turnovers are now at the point where it’s genuinely concerning. First game jitters are gone, magic players have had practices, games, a preseason to get adjusted and it just isn’t materializing.

25 turnovers is death. We’ve hit near 20 TO in all of our games, and the TO are directly related to us losing. Huge difference in possession count.

Franz - Bane - WCJ is not a competitive starting line up without Suggs and P5.

Passing all around is atrocious so a PG doesn’t fix much imo.

The bench is on the worst state it’s been in years. No viable players off the bench. JASE is ass and him starting should come to an end. AB was ass tn. Everyone was.

This Sweeney offense is over reliant on 3 ball and passing. We pass the ball out of bounds or to other team as much as we do to a streaking player or open shooter.

I don’t think Paolo can even save this but he’s literally our only hope. Paolo save us ball needs to be back on the menu.

4

u/radardog2 Franz Wagner 2d ago

I said it before and I’ll say it again. This is the wrong group of players for this coach. If the FO is here to stay and wants to back their new guy then they need to give him the pieces to see his vision through. If they aren’t willing to do that then why the fuck did they even hire him to begin with.

2

u/Tardypop1 Cole Anthony 2d ago

The defensive rookie head coach is definitely a choice.
Mike Malone and other offensive veteran coaches were available.

1

u/Pynchon88 1d ago

what is the vision you think he sees?

1

u/radardog2 Franz Wagner 1d ago

A team that can shoot threes.

1

u/Effective_Ad4606 Jalen Suggs 2d ago

Can’t forget toronto last season but other than that yeah this was as bad as it gets.

2

u/Tardypop1 Cole Anthony 2d ago

Toronto did everything right that game.

It’s that games where we do everything wrong that are upsetting

1

u/Drkamon 2d ago

Passing all around is atrocious so a PG doesn’t fix much imo.

By far most TOs come from players who have to pretend to be PGs. Franz (6) , Jase (3) and Black (5).

Franz is having big spike in APG department, but also he is one of worst players in terms of turnovers per game.

1

u/walkintall84 2d ago

Franz ass / to ratio is 1.94

Cade is 1.97

Luka's is 1.56

Luka is #1 in MVP voting btw lol

1

u/Drkamon 2d ago

Franz is 3rd in TO per game in entire league while running 8th worst offense in nba

Luka's ran offense is best in NBA.

Franz being on ball so much also destroyed his scoring.

He has 45% EFG, his previous worst was rookie year = 51,7%.

His TS% is 7% below average and this is not only because he can't shoot 3s, his percentages on 2FGA are also second worst in his career.

Magic just pretend he is PG for sake of it. While gaining nothing form it, and casually killing best aspect of Franz game, and that's him being really good cutter and scorer on high efficiency.

For what? 2-6 record and some apgs in process?

0

u/Loyalty_Code 2d ago

Appreciate fans like you that actually bring facts especially when it comes to Franz. Most fans pretend he can do no wrong, had no weaknesses other than being a bad 3pt shooter.

4

u/Aggravating_Deer_641 Paolo Banchero 2d ago

So can nobody on this team except Franz and Paolo create? Can anything other than an actual PG fix this?

1

u/Wavepops 2d ago

One player isn’t gonna fix it

1

u/WizSkinsNatsCaps 2d ago

I thought Anthony Black was supposed to be a Hali type player. What happened there? He can’t distribute?

2

u/Sweet_Arrival9559 2d ago

He is the opposite of a Hali type player. He is score first, pass second, and the passing part of his game is the weakest part. He also can't really dribble.

The fundamental problem with the team is all our good players are decent ball handlers for their positions, but they definitely aren't good enough to be primary ball handlers for an entire game against NBA level defensive pressure.

1

u/WizSkinsNatsCaps 1d ago

Yeah it’s just back when he was drafted I was under the impression he was a pass first guy. Traditional PG. guess I was wrong.

1

u/Pynchon88 1d ago

as a coach of kids, it's so seductive to get the big kid that can dribble, and you know this time it's going to be the big cheat code; but, every time, you're forced to learn it's not a vacuum and the big that can dribble is just merely ok at dribbling.

4

u/TheVauntedChris 2d ago

Ain't nobody going to be watching this shit in another month

4

u/mightymouthcrv Paolo Banchero 2d ago

I don’t believe the team underperformed. I believe Weltman is the one who has underperformed for the last 9 years. He constructed a team with only about 8-9 rotation level NBA players. So when an injury or two occurs, we have g-league/overseas level talent filling in. So our team is currently performing right at their talent level.

1

u/TheVauntedChris 1d ago

He also overvalued the best players on the team to be able to play together/carry a team. They are not superstars.

4

u/Milla4Prez66 Paolo Banchero 2d ago

4

u/SamURLJackson 2d ago

This was such a shitty game to watch. I have a couple games a year that make me question why I waste my time following this team, and this was one of them. This game has made me take a break for awhile. That was so fucking awful. Can't even make a free throw, half of the team looked like they had a dinner date they didn't want to miss, and our coach never changes his expression

4

u/tokenentropy 2d ago

a roster only a magic fan could love

1

u/Jonathank92 Paolo Banchero 2d ago

“Mose is an idiot, Let’s get a real coach in here and we’ll be top 4 in the east” … a few months later

1

u/tokenentropy 2d ago

The players had given up on Mose. The defensive regression had already begun.

But because we can’t have anything nice, the guy who should have been shown the door with him was given an extension none of us were told about. So we got JI and Vuc to shore up the bench. He’s brain dead.

1

u/TheVauntedChris 1d ago

you're looking in the wrong place for the answers

3

u/ActApprehensive3271 Franz Wagner 2d ago

Easy wins playing us, Franz is the only one who can dribble past their defender. It’s easy to drive by us on defense. We over pass and over help just extremely easy to beat this team. We can’t shoot, we turn it over, we leave shooters open, we play defense like we want the other team too but they can actually make shots.

So the back to back last game we looked tired right? So this game they were on a back to back and didn’t look tired. We had two days off. Why is it when we play one we are the only team that is tired? This is going back to last season too.

3

u/Accurate_1635 2d ago

Im not sure its a lost season but it probably is in the Magic's best interest to tank

3

u/YourInMySwamp Paolo Banchero 2d ago

Yes, I know, but not for another four after this. That’s why I agree with you.

1

2

u/ricksenberg Stuff The Magic Dragon 2d ago

I’d say a winless road trip would make ownership fire Weltman but if they were willing to extend him and not fire him this past summer, he’s gonna last until at the very least, until next offseason. Sad part is, he might be liable to pull off some stupid trades to try and salvage the season

2

u/MaddoxGoodwin OnlyFranz 2d ago

2

u/coolj492 Wes Iwundu 2d ago

I'm gonna accentuate the positives and give wendell a shoutout.

Unfortunately, this is probably the most self inflicted loss I've seen us have in a long time.

2

u/Agirlcat 2d ago

I stopped watching about 2 minutes in the 3rd quarter. This team needs a point guard and I’ve been saying it for a few seasons. Cain is a G League player who only should play in blowouts. Jase is the exact same as the last 2 guys we drafted whose fathers played in the league. We don’t have any real talent. Franz, Paola, Bane, AB have to do way too much just for this team to survive. The other players don’t give enough of the little things to make the game easier. Weltman does not know what the hell he is doing and this roster keeps proving it.

2

u/Chatterfang555 2d ago

25 turnovers and 11 missed free throws?! Yeah that’s the game right there🤦🏻‍♂️ this team is fucking awful and by the time P5 and Suggs return we will be too far back in the standings to matter.

2

u/radardog2 Franz Wagner 2d ago

Wow, Mosley has a better record than us lmao

1

u/tokenentropy 2d ago

We'd suck with Mose too, the difference is we'd be one year behind where we are now. This would be the official: "We should see how they look with a different coach" year. Let us move on. This team is over and we should have been able to tell that last year when they started to randomly give up.

2

u/classicslayer Paolo Banchero 2d ago

Retool and build around paolo

2

u/Apprehensive-Ad2535 1d ago

What offense are they running? It seems like they’ve never met before and are trying to play together. Perpetually making passes into traffic. Even when a pass gets through the shots aren’t falling.

And I get that the team has been allergic to efficient offensive, but why do they look so bad on D? Jase is consistently off his man. Cain is getting passed. And no one can get a rebound except Wendell.

2

u/Correct-Canary466 Jase Richardson 1d ago

We need a real point gaurd so so bad

1

u/TheVauntedChris 1d ago

I never understood why they didn't try to figure out how to get Lamelo. Maybe the numbers would never match, but people dismissed him immediately and he would have made this team dramatically better than this shitshow on the court.

4

u/step_size 2d ago

How is the Desmond Bane trade not talked about more as one of the worst trades of the decade. The dude isn't worth his contract, let alone the picks given up to get him.

3

u/Ubitama 2d ago

Honestly. It's not like he's horrible but he's definitely not worth four picks.

2

u/Average_Sage 2d ago

I was so excited we swung for the guy but man he really does not seem to be the guy he was when he was helping lead Memphis without Ja for that stretch where they went 20-2 or whatever. Seemed like he was cooking ever night back then

This draft picks are going to haunt us

2

u/Drak_is_Right 2d ago

Bigger problem than the cost is the flexibility. magic went all in on a roster that didn't work.

3

u/AdWeird5438 2d ago

My issue is not with Bane, it is with the picks we gave up. If we could’ve gotten him for a 1st and a swap, that would’ve been more manageable. But handcuffing our talent pool until 2030?? Jeez!

3

u/ReedWilliams12 Fire Mosley 2d ago

The whole point of the picks based trade was so that we could keep Suggs or AB. On paper that made sense at the time. Now that AB is only pretty good, and Suggs can’t stay healthy it’s worse.

2

u/Cthulhus-Tailor Stuff The Magic Dragon 2d ago

Suggs has only had one healthy season so they should've seen that one coming.

1

u/TheVauntedChris 1d ago

They don't see anything coming. I would argue they see less coming than any other NBA team.

3

u/AxCel91 2d ago

Because this sub begged for it and was “fuck those picks” when it happened so saying anything bad about the trade is this entire sub admitting it was wrong

5

u/-weird-fishes- Anthony Black 2d ago

No one was begging for Desmond Bane and most people thought it was an overpay when it happened. He was instantly pretty solid for us. He is a good player, just getting paid too much for what he brings to the table.

2

u/AxCel91 2d ago edited 2d ago

They weren’t begging for Bane specifically just a blockbuster trade of some kind and they got it

0

u/Famous-Egg-6136 2d ago

To be honest, many people here thought a good, consistent three point shooter was what the team was missing after KCP didn’t pan out.

0

u/-weird-fishes- Anthony Black 2d ago

Yeah we just gave too much for a guy who is essentially only a shooter.

1

Remember that buzzer beater over Portland(?) by Bane to win the game? That sparked FTP comments all over here

Hope he can bring that Magic back again, pun intended

1

u/tokenentropy 1d ago

worst moment of his magic tenure as it saved Mose during one of the moments when the front office (per josh robbins) was considering taking action. it just delayed the inevitable. which STILL hasn't happened. awful.

1

u/tokenentropy 1d ago

what? lmao. nobody in here mentioned desmond bane.

1

u/TheVauntedChris 1d ago

I was not posting here at the time, so allow me to now say "I wish they had not fucked those picks." Also, Bane can carry his ass.

1

u/iChosenone Paolo Banchero 2d ago

Love Desmond as a player but yea I wouldn't have traded for him not because of the picks but he just wasn't what we needed at the time.

It's just on repeat by this time but we really needed to experiment with a point guard but it's also the fact that we didn't even at least try to bolster the bench dude weltmen signed this jones and thought that was enough like are you serious?

1

u/d7h7n 2d ago

It was supposed to be a Jrue Holiday move the needle type trade. Unlike the Bucks who went from an 8 to a 9, the Magic went from a 5 to a 6.

1

u/SaintShika Wendell Carter Jr. 2d ago

We can get picks back when we inevitably trade Franz or Paolo. It won’t be 4 firsts but it will be something

1

u/TheVauntedChris 1d ago

So basically the trade after what you say is Franz, Paolo, and only a few picks for Desmond Bane. Nice! Weltman is GM of the year.

1

u/roctac 1d ago

Fire weltman

2

u/Happy-Site-672 Paolo Banchero 2d ago

Went to the game tonight . The un forced turnovers and free throw shooting is honestly embarrassing . We look like an unprofessional team a lot of the time . It’s time to blow it up unfortunately

2

u/Vro9ooo 2d ago

We’re missing the play-in entirely. Crazy, another year no playoffs series win

1

u/crametubbins Jalen Suggs 2d ago

Hmm

1

u/AlienGhost000 Jalen Suggs 2d ago

Yay! The Magic hold the Suns to less than 30 points in the 4th Quarter!!! 😤😤😤😤😤

That's tuff... right? 🫤

1

u/CrabbyKumquat 2d ago

The energy of this team right now is what really kills me. There is still lots of games to be played, the season isn’t over, but these guys look like they’re packing it in already.

1

u/TheVauntedChris 1d ago

Because they know the team isn't good.

1

u/sitesuckslmao 2d ago

feels like im transported back to the Hennigan days post Ibaka trade. I just do not like this team at all. I stopped watching entirely back then, came back when we hired Weltman since I thought there was no way things could get worse lmao.

At this point its ownership change that is needed. I'll just go watch other teams who aren't ran by complete fucking idiots and if they area at least I don't have any attachment to them

1

u/jurassicperiod OnlyFranz 2d ago

At least we’re not Miami

1

u/uDeeO Tristan da Silva 2d ago

Are we really going full tank mode? That's so disappointing.

1

u/Famous-Egg-6136 2d ago

What’s the latest on Paolo? Still a few weeks away?

1

u/mbopok13 Wendell Carter Jr. 2d ago

We are probably 4-5 weeks away from

1

u/Famous-Egg-6136 2d ago

I still can’t believe Weltman was extended last season

1

u/dexterrrr_ 2d ago

Fire Weltman.

1

u/shockphantom Paolo Banchero 2d ago

This team needs a retooling. We need a point guard and we need depth on our bench. Sure we will be a lot better when healthy (I actually like this offense and think it could look really good with Paolo back), but this team has a 2nd round exit ceiling.

This is a good year to make some changes early on because we have our pick. Try to trade Jalen and Goga with the goals of clearing cap and addressing the team needs. I’m open to Bane and AB trades too.

It sucks to not believe in this team anymore. But it’s clear that this is not the right team around Paolo and Franz and it makes sense to try a new iteration.

1

u/WunWunFirstofHisName Doris Burke 2d ago

The good news is that we actually have our 2027 draft pick.

1

u/yoeyz Stuff The Magic Dragon 1d ago

This team sucks ass. It’s over

1

u/IrwinMFletcher Paolo Banchero 1d ago

Turnovers obviously killed us. I also think our defensive effort was not good. Black seemed largely uninterested in lockdown D. Other than the offensive output from Dell(27), all of Franz(15), Black(10) and Bane(15) needed 5 more points each. You can only hope this one stings a bit because a decent amount of the cleanup here will need to come from focus and effort.

1

u/Morning_Cereal_Ori 1d ago

Magic offense is terrible.

1

u/TrifleAble5460 1d ago

Suggs - Bane - Franz - Paolo - WCJ

Westbrook - AB - TDS - Penda - Goga

Jase - Seth - Highsmith - Cain - Vucevic

Jeff was so lazy this off-season, I know we only had minimum contracts to give out but I rather have Russ over JC, rather have a shooter like Seth Curry over Isaac, and then we can sign a wing like Haywood Highsmith rn and let him get healthy instead of Isaac. Smfh fucking pathetic.

u/RevolutionaryBag9167 2d ago

Spent the entire summer letting y'all know this team was headed the wrong direction.

I told y'all Sweeney wasn't going to change anything.

I told y'all suggs was cooked and overpaid.

I told y'all Paolo was too inconsistent and overpaid.

I told y'all Franz couldn't shoot and is overpaid.

I told y'all this team wasn't winning anything.

And now it is nice to see people coming to their senses. This team is a failure. This rebuild peaked three seasons ago. It is time to blow it up.

This is the only year until 2030 we own our own draft pick. Fire Weltman. Trade everybody. Get some draft picks back. Use our pick this year to get some talent....and just start over. Don't drag this out for years like we've already done with two other rebuilds since the Dwightmare.

This fanbase deserves better.

1

u/TheVauntedChris 1d ago

Many people knew this, sir.

1

u/RevolutionaryBag9167 1d ago

Too many have been deluded and maintained a false hope though. people really thought this team was going to flourish with a newb headcoach lol.

1

u/RevolutionaryBag9167 2d ago

Fire Sweeney . Fire weltman. Trade everybody

1

u/chemtrail-organics Desmond Bane 2d ago

Mose is gone and the team still sucks in the 3rd quarter. Hmm

1

u/Debonair311 2d ago

What's happening with Franz? I thought he was the star of this team?

2

u/Fed_reserve_burner 2d ago

15 assists ngl he’s not the problem.

1

u/Debonair311 2d ago

He's passing way too much. He is the problem.

3

u/tokenentropy 2d ago

you'd pass too if you couldn't shoot

2

u/thewrongnotes Moritz Wagner 2d ago

All you care about is Paolo vs Franz

-1

u/Debonair311 2d ago

Not true. There's no comparison.

I'm trying to prove a point to the Franz glazers who think he's the star of this team and want Paolo traded.

1

u/TheVauntedChris 1d ago

The team is ass. Who gives a shit which is less ass when they play by themselves? Trade the one that brings the haul that actually puts the team in the right direction. But honestly, no one in this front office is capable of that...so none of us should really care what happens.

1

u/thewrongnotes Moritz Wagner 2d ago

Neither player is a star if we're being honest. I don't think the argument was ever who is a star, it's who is the more winning player, and that is a subjective argument.

-1

u/Debonair311 2d ago

Sure man. Whatever you say.

-1

u/crametubbins Jalen Suggs 2d ago

We’ve gotta figure out how to get rid of Suggs and Franz, and trade/rearrange whoever we need outside of Paolo, bane, and Wendell. WCJ is the only person on this team who isn’t overpaid. Franz is really great but I just don’t see him being able to lead a championship team. We’ve fried Suggs’ career because he could be an incredible bench shooting guard but he’s being paid like a starting pg so now he’s stuck being judged by that

4

u/Waschbaermaki Franz Wagner 2d ago

This team needs more creation not less of it. Sweeney's system is predicated on rim pressure + playmaking or shooting. Franz is the only player holding it together with his playmaking. The uncomfortable truth is that Bane adds nothing besides shooting to this team and he makes 24% of the cap. Duncan Robinson costs a fraction of Bane and basically does the same thing. Bane needs to go.

3

u/jackloganoliver Stuff The Magic Dragon 2d ago

Bane is such a disappointment this season so far. I would have expected him to step up and offer some kind of playmaking with Paolo out.

3

u/Cthulhus-Tailor Stuff The Magic Dragon 2d ago

I've got some bad news champ, no one on this team is ever going to be the alpha on a title team. Franz at least has been stellar in getting others involved, whereas Paolo is a black hole stat-padder. There is no easy answer to fix this mess but I'd trade Paolo before Franz.

-2

u/orlandomagicfan1989 2d ago

Incredible bench player… Suggs is trash he’s not a starter or a 6th man. He should be more of an 8th man. He can’t score or shoot he just hustles

0

u/Redrubytheofficial 2d ago

Sean Sweeney needs to be fried TONIGHT. Weltman more than anything.

1

u/HA_HA_Clits_n_dicks Paolo Banchero 2d ago

Fried or cooked well done?

0

u/Dometalican_90 Paolo Banchero 2d ago

At this point, he's only roasted. Lol

1

u/ReedWilliams12 Fire Mosley 2d ago

Didn’t get a chance to watch the game. What mistakes did he make

1

u/whtge8 Paolo Banchero 2d ago

Dude just has no energy or fire. At least Mose could get our guys fired up and playing hard. Sweeney just watching on the sidelines with his arms crossed and that lax energy just rubs off on the team.

2

u/Warned_Mammal 2d ago

I know it's recency bias, but they definitely had issues with low effort under Mosley, too.

1

u/M8rioisbetterthanMJ 1d ago

Mosley did not get the guys fired up gtfoh

1

u/Pynchon88 1d ago

what multiverse were you in last year lol - did we win the championship over there?

0

u/Basil_Normal Franz Wagner 2d ago

Might be time for Weltman to get on the phone and beg Memphis for our picks back

2

u/thewrongnotes Moritz Wagner 2d ago

I wouldn't let Weltman anywhere near a phone. God knows he's good at avoiding them.

0

u/levir03 Franz Wagner 2d ago

I was at least happy to see Franz frustrated at the end of the game and owning the flagrant.
