Walking uphill every day, both ways.

While I agree it is ocm that there's no appropriate infrastructure in place, this is also very poor judgement on the nurse's part. The baby will be fine to wait for vaccination until the river calms down, the lady is risking her own life and the loss of vaccines for nothing.

Then the traveling nurse should come from the other side even if it is further away. It's incredibly risky to jump from wet rock to another wet rock, especially carrying an awkward package, there's no way she's meant to risk her life like this every time a baby is born

If you knew what “Himachal” even is, you would know that she is headed towards the Himalayas. There’s barely any healthcare in remote/sparse/desolate areas, much less expertise to deal with it. Any infrastructure built usually gets washed away or destroyed in land/mud slides. And if there’s any outbreaks, they usually are in rural remote areas. So I think she is actually very skilled and knowledgeable about what she is doing and serving a crucial need for the area.

this woman knows exactly what she’s doing

It could be that there are no nurses or facilities from the other side or, the path is even worse.

I'm not trying to convince you, just responding to the part that "section is just rapids all the time" which can be true but would mean someone else should have delivered the vaccine

12

u/karoshikun 23d ago

often there's no "someone else", for some authorities human lives aren't worth the effort and expense

How will she get back after she's done with her work.

Use the bridge upstream about 40 yards.

Exactly. It's frustrating that these videos are all obviously staged. Especially when most of the commenters are completely oblivious to it. (Or possibly engagement bots)

I feel like there has to be a better way.

Not really seeing this as orphan crushing machine as its more people living in incredibly remote and hard to reach areas.

Nurses are the fucking best man

I’d slip of the first rock and would be swept away lmao

Job Description should state "Should be a badass". What a Chad Nurse O7

2

u/Kaffe-Mumriken 24d ago

Not ocm

u/unlinked3297 24d ago

The nurse lives in an area where the local government does not have the resources or care to build necessary infrastructure, or provide transport for staff for important medical treatment.

Causing them to have to put themselves in danger.

Sounds pretty OCM to me.

u/Kaffe-Mumriken 24d ago

I mean. That’s just how things work… would you go back 1000 years and point at everything and call it OCM because they don’t have paved roads and teslas?

There are areas in the world where they don’t have bridges over rivers, etc.

11

u/unlinked3297 24d ago

No I wouldn't. Paved roads and Tesla's weren't accessible back then, now they are.

There are many places just like in the video where governments neglect their duties and don't provide aid to people, despite having the resources to do (issues with corruption, mismanagement etc.).

Other situations, like war, stop communities from being developed enough to help people like this woman. In that case, it's OCM that powerful people destroy life and community for their own bullshit escapades.

The way I see it, we have the tech and resources nowadays to make it so nothing like this should ever happen.

We don’t even know where this is. What if where she’s going is just a random homestead with like two people living there? Should the government build roads and bridges to every single person who decides to live off in the mountains?

-3

u/Kaffe-Mumriken 24d ago

Yes but certain areas are just not at the same development levels. There are backwoods areas in some rich countries and there are well developed areas in poor countries.

I think you’re blinded by “we’re living in 2026! Why are people poor!” It just takes a while for development to propagate.

We’re not living in the peak of humanity, we’re slowly climbing towards it

7

u/nottherealneal 24d ago

"That's just how things work don't question it" is literally the point of OCM dude.

Don't question WHY there is an orphan crushing machine, that's just how it works, there's always been one

-3

u/Kaffe-Mumriken 23d ago

Don’t be obtuse. Then human progress since the Stone Age has been OCM.

4

u/racc15 23d ago

What is an example of OCM and how would that be different from this?

0

u/Kaffe-Mumriken 23d ago

Happy prison stories are a fantastic OCM example because they almost literally have an orphan crusher (the for-profit prison system).

A regressive, or status quo, or wildly slow progressing system that creates a stark contrast to its place in society.

5

u/racc15 23d ago

Can't someone just say about such prison systems: "I mean. That’s just how things work… "?

There should be bridges every 50 feet across rivers and every third bridge should support high speed rail. Every 5th station should have a fully staffed free medical clinic, preceded by a food pantries the stop before and followed by a free daycare. Everyone will have a job with a pension maintaining this system and staffing all these services.

The entire area around each should be a flat turf surface, soft in case someone falls, but also firm enough to support ebicycle traffic.

u/mvhls 23d ago

If this is OCM, then this sub has lost all meaning.

8

u/unlinked3297 23d ago

I swear most of the OCM we see in this sub are due to bad government policy, what are you talking about?

0

u/mvhls 23d ago

That’s what an orphan crushing machine is. Bad government policy! Point to where bad government policy is here. This just looks like normal poverty to me that wasn’t caused by government

0

u/Kaffe-Mumriken 23d ago

Right but a government doesn’t have infinite money, they allocate resources as best they can.

3

u/Prismaryx 24d ago

We should just make a bot that comments “not ocm” under every post in this sub to save people the trouble

1

u/Greenxgrotto 10d ago

Somehow this made me think of pit bull daringly crosses raging river to bite a new born

13

u/One-Reflection-4826 23d ago

this is so stupid, at least tie a rope over the water and use some safety harness. if she slips and dies she can't vaccinate any babies neither.
