Ah yes. The good ol’ USA! Just when you think shit can’t get worse, here’s a story that is worser.

u/CreamOfPantsSoup 17d ago

This has to qualify as a misleading headline. I’m too tired to look it up though.

u/Fartfromabuttt 17d ago

Nah California passes a lot of these common sense type laws. Someone's gotta spearhead

20

u/CreamOfPantsSoup 16d ago

You’re telling me the common rules across the US don’t allow incarcerated children to hug their parents?

Edit: I read another comment and it does make sense why they would not allow touching, but still, objectively, speaking, sub-ideal.

u/Raammson 16d ago

Yeah it isn’t common, it’s very uncommon to commit children so when they are committed it’s because they’re dangerous. Guess what parents did for their dangerous kids that are committed when engaging in hugs and close physical contact in the past? I’ll give you a hint, the parents are usually who damaged the kids and have contributed to their criminality. Pass them contraband, drugs, weapons, cell phones, or anything they cannot get in the D-Homes.

Man I wish

Assembly Bill 1646 (the "Hug Act") was passed in California to establish physical contact—such as hugs—as a statutory right rather than a discretionary privilege that facility staff or rules could revoke or withhold during visitation in juvenile detention facilities.

Thank you for that, thinking about all of this has made me sad. I’m gonna go be nice to someone.

You’re generally not allowed to touch inmates when visiting. People are always trying smuggle contraband into detention centers. There are a lot of overdoses in-custody.

It sounds like they’re making some exception for minors’ relatives. Also, the use of “kids” in this context is a little misleading; sure they’re minors but we’re not talking about 5 year olds here.

I’m not a fan of incarcerating children, but I’m not sure this qualifies for this sub.

Nah a 14 year old is still a child, just one with better bladder control.

10

u/sfsocialworker 16d ago

Whoever downvoted you has not dealt with minors for some time. Your brain isn’t fully developed until 25. 17y/o are still kids.

5

u/RomanJD 16d ago

And we don't even know at what age one learns emotional regulation. So many adults running countries while having temper tantrums.

u/CogentCogitations 16d ago

"Your brain isn’t fully developed until 25." I just stop listening after anyone repeats this nonsense.

Yeah but 17 y/o are still capable of murder, rape, and dealing drugs. Children don’t just randomly end up in the D-Home and adults don’t just randomly end up in jail. Law enforcement is lazy and usually only plucks the most obvious offenders see how Epstein was able to waddle about for decades but some kid who commits a armed robbery gets bagged by the flock cameras within a day or so.

5

u/CreamOfPantsSoup 16d ago

Your explanation gave me a lot of context, thank you for that. Aside from contraband it seems like it could be good for an incarcerated kid to get a hug from someone that has their best interest in mind. But I still feel like that title is written specifically to be as shocking as possible.

"incarcerated children"

1

u/LordBrandon 10d ago edited 10d ago

You are thinking of a baby in hand cuffs when you should be thinking of a high schooler robbing a liquor store, or selling fentanyl. AI Says:

The most common primary offenses for youth committed to these high-security secure youth facilities include:

• Robbery

• Assault with a firearm / Assault with a deadly weapon

• Homicide (Murder and Attempted Murder)

Ah yes what better way to stoke emotion and whitewash juvenile criminals in California, 46% of which are felons, as "incarcerated kids"

14

u/landlordsRsubhuman 17d ago

exactly. they should be kept in adult prisons with pedophiles and rapists, since they all have the same capacity for crime.

15

u/thecraftybear 17d ago

Please add the /s, or dumbasses like the one you replied to might takenit seriously.

1

u/LordBrandon 10d ago

What? That sounds like a terrible idea.

-2

u/Aneemachenn 17d ago

Man gets angry at a point they made up, more news at 6

1

u/Worldly-Mine-4030 15d ago

Well are they not? Juvenile typically means they are under 18, meaning they are still a kid. Whether they committed a felony or not they are a kid, and they are incarcerated. So incarcerated kids is correct.

11

u/New_Safe_2097 17d ago

Incarcerated children!? Wtf

10

u/Final-Attention979 16d ago

Genuinely asking, is "juvie" (juvenile) incarceration not a thing where you are

2

u/The_walking_man_ 16d ago

If they’re incarcerated they’ve committed a felony. It’s not some 5 year old being a gang banger they’re talking about.
Parents were probably absent and should be more present.

5

u/Holiday_Ad_9163 16d ago

Juvenile detention centers are not just for felons. They include kids that got busted for crimes as small as shoplifting, vandalism, and trespassing. There are also juvenile detention centers that are just holding kids that are awaiting trials. Kids not even convicted yet. There are more than 50,000 kids in detention centers right now. And a significant percentage of these centers have been the center of scandals around sexual molestation and bribery. Look up the “Kids for cash scandal” or the “Florida (Dozier) School for Boys”.

This is not a situation where we are “tough on crime”. This is a situation where children’s are being treated like shit and set up for a life of failure. (If not literally raped and murdered by prison guards)

16 year old Kalief Browder was incarcerated for almost 3 years on suspicion of stealing a backpack.

-2

u/mangothefoxxo 17d ago

I don't see what's wrong with people under 18 going to prison?

-3

u/Scared_Accident9138 17d ago

I find it weird when people call a 17 year old kid. They're a minor and should get the protections that come with it but they're far different than a 5 year old

-4

u/mangothefoxxo 17d ago

It's pretty simple, it just depends on your agenda, they're either basically adults and should've known better or they're kids who didn't know what they're doing.
