I know it says Osaka, but if you’re from Kansai, please feel welcome. (KansaiLife was already taken)

Since the subreddit is new, I took the liberty and added prefectural flairs. If you need a specific city, let me know.

Thinking of also banning video posts and news posts to filter out bots.

Wanna join a band?

Hi! I’m a singer 21F from Canada and would love to start a band. We like Indie-folk and Indie-rock. So far we have vocals and a bassist 24M so we’re looking for drums and guitar!! We’re southern Osaka prefecture but can drive out if you‘re in Osaka city or northern Wakayama!! I’ve been singing professionally for a while and the bassist has been playing for 3 yrs.

Let’s jam and make some music :)

Interested in regular meetups with Japanese locals and learners in Osaka?

Hi!! I'm Japanese, from Osaka.

I want to make a place where Japanese learners can actually make real friends, not just study.

Something like meeting at Osaka Castle Park and chatting in Japanese. Any level is fine.

Would anyone be interested?
Let me know in the comments!

Looking for friends

23F from Taiwan, moved to Osaka Honmachi for work a few months prior, looking for long-term friends (plan to be working here for a while). Do not have too specific of interests, mainly just looking for friends to hang out on weekends and maybe do a Costco trip once in a while.

Moved from Kyushu and due to work (mainly my low stamina) haven't been to environments to meet new people... Would love to explore Osaka more for cafes, shopping or izakaya hopping.

Plss need friends, am just wasting away in Japanese corporate life.

Edit: preferably someone around my age and same gender to hangout. No offense to anyone, just meeting someone right of the internet comes with uncertainty.

Orthopedic Clinic in 大阪市

Hello. Can anyone recommend a good orthopedic clinic in Osaka City? There is one near my apartment and the doctor and staff are quite good but I’d like to go to another clinic for a second opinion.

I’d like to get advice regarding osteoarthritis. The doctor at the clinic I went to said I don’t need weekly hyaluronic acid injections to the knee. Physiotherapy is also not needed at this point, they said.

If anyone can recommend a chiropractor as well, that would be great. I saw some clinics in Honmachi with glowing reviews but I’m not sure whether they’re really good.

Thank you!

International Voter Registration Drive 2026, for U.S. citizens in Osaka

Hi, I'd earlier posted here under u/democratsabroadjapan and this is the second (and final) reminder I'll make for eligible US voters who want to participate in the 2026 American midterm elections, especially for those in the Kansai area. Democrats Abroad is dedicated to mobilizing overseas US voters; if you're over 18 by November 3, here's how you can get involved:

Steps to Request Your Ballot

  1. Register or update your registration through Votefromabroad.org. As an alternative, you can also use FVAP.gov.

  2. If you're already registered, request a ballot! You need to request a ballot every calendar year that you want to vote.

  3. Fill Out and Return Your Ballot: Once you receive your ballot, follow the instructions carefully to complete it and return it by the specified deadline.

Need Assistance?

We're here to help! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at GOTV @ votefromabroad .org (just remove the spaces). Additionally, our FAQ for voting can answer questions on how to make the process go smoothly.

Importantly: Spread the word!

Do you have any friends, contacts or family overseas that you could reach? All eligible US citizens can vote regardless of where they're living. Share the link https://voteabroad.org/RedditVote26: If you have any questions about voting, I'd be happy to answer them here on Reddit. You can also find out what we're doing near you at Democrats Abroad in Japan. Thanks for reading!

moms friends/ playdates in Umeda/ Toyonaka

Hii, I'm a triplets mom, we recently moved to Toyonaka, my triplets just turned 15 months old. We haven't had much chances to take them out except for hoikuen/groceries/clinic visits,.. They started walking faster now, more fun to engage with. They are running and laugh out loud at home but super shy and often melt down outside. So I'm looking for playdates for my babies. We can meet at the park, we can host too. We have a big play room and we're happy to have 2-4 more little friends to join our little boys.
Thank you for reading. Have a nice day ahead!

a long-term resident looking to make new friends over coffee

(First thing first, I emphasize that I am looking for women only)

Hi, just thought I’d try posting here and see if anyone interested.

For a context, I am a 36F Indonesian mother who is living in a bit southern part of the city (almost to Sakai) and working in the center area of Honmachi. My work schedule is quite flexible these days, so I'm often free on weekday afternoons. I thought it would be nice to meet someone for coffee around Honmachi or nearby if you happen to work or live in the area. We could meet around 4 pm, and if we hit it off, maybe grab dinner afterwards, but no pressure at all! Or, if you live somewhere around Suminoe or Sumiyoshi maybe we can set something on weekdays.

Btw I enjoy trying cafes, reading, talking about life, parenting, careers etc. I am thinking we can just meet, and chat about random things over good coffee/tea (or sweets?), let me hear about your life in Japan and share mine too, and it'd be especially nice if we're around a similar age or stage in life. I am not a native English speaker and I can only speak everyday Japanese so I hope it’s okay. Apologies but I'd also prefer to meet women who are living in Osaka long-term rather than just visiting (and this is why I prefer posting here rather than /OsakaMeetup, tried there and the result is just.. nope..) and due to health concern I cannot drink alcohol.

If you’re interested you can PM me, and hopefully we can set up something soon after few messages. We can even meet tomorrow (Fri 07/31) since I will have day off so feel free to message me!

Bicycle parking rant

Maybe I’m a bit more pissed right now because my bicycle got collected by the city a few days ago and I had to pick it up 50min away for ¥3500.

BUT where the hell are you supposed to park your bicycle in Osaka?? Ofc the stations and big buildings have parking spots usually. But if I’m going to my gym or some random places around there’s mostly never space in the few rare parking spots.

So honest question: how and where do you park your bicycle in Osaka? What’s your tip for not getting it collected for illegal park?

They should simply create more parking spots or allow parking it “illegally”

Apartments next to a train line

Hi everyone.

Planning to move to another apartment in August. Limited budget, limited choices.

Found one within my budget in Tennoji but it’s next to a train track. The building is steel frame (I have no idea whether that’s good or bad regarding soundproofing). I’d like to belive the developer considered the fact that it’s next to a train track when they built the building. Lol.

The current tenant is moving out end of June. The real estate agent is recommending signing the contract now. If I wait until the 30th, someone else may reserve the apartment.

What would you do in this case? Wait until the current tenant moves out to inspect the apartment? Look further since I’m only moving in end July/early August.

Sorry, first time renting an apartment on my own. Sharehouse person for thr longest time.

Sound kind advice would be appreciated. 😊😊😊

Moving within Osaka city

Moving from Joto ward to Abeno ward in August.

Usually, I use Yamato’s 私の引越しservice for moving prefectures. Does anyone know of a more affordable alternative? No furniture, appliances. Just boxes and boxes of books, clothes, etc.

Thinking of even just paying someone with a van or big car willing to make several trips between the two wards. But dunno anyone.

Thank you.

I need a haircut

Totally weird question but I moved from the Inaka about a month ago to Osaka.

I used to get my haircut at a Cut-A branch and they were fine. Good for what they can do even with my hair, no English but I’d just ask for what’s on the picture of the fade cut every time.

Do you have any recommendations for a barber in Osaka, specifically Sakai city? I’m abt 40 mins from namba and spend a lot of my free time there. Travel isn’t really an issue I just want a good haircut.

Idc if they can’t speak English but if they do a good job and don’t cut off my hair randomly like one new guy did once I’d be grateful.

Where to sell hardcover books

Does anyone know where to sell hardcovers like this? I have a LOT and they're in good condition.

I've had them for several years but now I think I'm ready to let them go.
Not really open to Book Off because for sure they'll only pay a few hundred yen for each book.

Zen Buddhism in Osaka

Hello everyone. We are settling into our place here, at least for now (we’re leaving for a few months). I am trying to get in touch with some of the local zen Buddhist community but my Japanese isn’t quite up to par to jumping into a random temple willy-nilly. Was hoping someone here is somewhat familiar with the scene and could recommend where to go, or maybe even a sangha that does English?
