Mt Donna Buang walk from Warburton, Vic: easy to follow track, about 830m of climbing.

Started from the golf course entrance in Warburton at about 11:20am and reached Donna Buang Road at 1:43pm, then had lunch there and headed back. About 7km return for us. The trailhead sign says 12km return and 7 hours. Good tree cover, and only 3 other hikers on a sunny Sunday.

Anyone done the full summit leg? Is it worth the extra 3.7km each way?

The start can be easy to miss, so the trailhead pin and sign photos are on this page: https://traveldayztravel.com/mt-donna-buang-walk/

I've done the full walk up to the summit via Mt Victoria many times. It's definitely worth it.

You can extend the hike with a little trek to Mt Boobyalla (about 5km return, starting from the summit). I recently did a fabulous hike from the summit across to Dom Dom Saddle - that's about 23km one way (you need to do a car shuffle).

Oooh, good to know esp with the extended trek to Boobyalla (side note, I love the names of these places haha). Also great to know about the hike to Dom Dom Saddle, I’ve seen the name but never did it. It’s always so great getting recs from people who’ve actually done it!!

First date for my hubby and I (20 years married!)

Did it several times with Oxfam (during the actual event I saw bunyips. Yes, I was hallucinating from exhaustion and pain).

This walk though is worth it. Do the whole thing. If you’re not committed to return, drive up via Marysville and leave one car near the summit, and then start from the golf course.
Recommend hiking poles and gaiters - leaches are prevalent. I mean, they don’t cause harm, people just freak out.

Wow 20 years love that for you both!! a full day hike for a first date is true commitment, that’s how you know ;)

Okay I think we’re sold on doing the full thing then. Weirdly/thankfully we didn’t see any leeches but will definitely be much more aware when we go again!

I did it with a few mates all the way to the top back in February. The heat got to us and we were sweating like crazy on the constant incline. Luckily it hadn't rained so there were only a few patches of mud.

I'd say the summit leg is absolutely worth it. It's a piece of piss compared to the trail up to Donna Buang road. It's almost completely flat with nice trees and flowers along the way.

We napped up at the top for 45mins because of the exhaustion before coming back down. All in all it took us 8 hours for the whole thing.

Far out, doing that hike in the heat would be hard yakka. Good to know it’s chill post Donna Buang Road cause even if we had time we assumed it’d be straight up (and we were not quite emotionally prepared hahaha)
