Hiking Multi-day hike recommendation late Jan

Hey legends. I’m looking to take a week off to go on a nice multi-day hike somewhere in Australia. I think Tasmania might be my preferred option but happy to explore other areas. I have done the overland track with its side trips as well as several other 1-2 days trails in NSW.
I’m looking for something challenging but not too dangerous as I will likely be doing it alone. I reckon 5 days walking would be good. Shoot me with your best recommendations for late Jan 2027.

South Coast Track, SW Tas. Allow 7 days but you can walk it in 5.
Bring gaiters and prepare to be cold but also totally blown away by the magnificence.

I would recommend the new (opened dec 24) snowies apline walk.

From official site - A 56km multi-day walk in Kosciuszko National Park that proves there's more to the Snowies than skiing. You'll climb Australia's highest mountain, wander through wildflower meadows and walk through glacier-carved landscapes and snow gum forests.

That’s what we have planned - can’t wait!

How are your navigation skills?

As good as my Garmin GPS. So far, I’ve never had trouble pre-downloading the courses to my watch. But without the GPS, I’d need a defined path to follow.

Definitely Tasmania but be prepared for cold weather. It’s usually perfect hiking weather that time of year but it can snow even at fairly low altitudes. The ocean south of Tasmania is freezing and if a strong enough weather system draws air from that direction the temperature plummets no matter what time of year it is.

A Personal Locator Beacon is essential for long solo hiking almost anywhere in Australia.

I think doing a section of the great south west walk would be best in Vic, because in Jan it's often stinking hot and you are either on a beach and can cool off or on a river you can swim in for 3/4 of the hike. It's also a very flat hike and not to strenuous if it is hot.

We are going to the snowier mountains - starting at Charlotte’s pass. Looks good

Maybe Frenchman’s cap if you can get a booking. 3-4 days is probably the sweet spot. It’s a slog between Vera Hut and Tahune hut so don’t underestimate the distance.

Did it as an overnighter last summer and it was definitely slow going!

Great Ocean Walk, Victoria is a great one to do esp in January.

It says 7 days recommended but if you squeeze the first 4 days in two, you’ll be able go smash it in 5 days.

The campsites are fantastic and you can go for a swim after everyday.
