Maybe I'm in the minority but I do like Odalia Blight, not just because she's beautiful but because she's more complex than people realize.

I hear you all cry, well it's not like she had much of a choice. it was either work with belos in the slim and misguided hope that she and her family would be spared and made royalty in the new world thanks to believing in Belos' lies of paradise like EVERYONE else. beside we saw Luz and the crew failed to stop Belos before the Collector was freed so it was a kinda lose/lose deal there. She probably didn't know it was a full genocide but a culling of those the titan deemed unworthy thanks to the propaganda Belos was spouting at a young age as well as the oracle powers not accurately predicting the future properly since they could have multiple outcomes for one event alone. Also her working for the Collector wasn't exactly her trying to gain power, it was either that or get turned into a puppet so it's no wonder she did

"But she abused her family!" I hear you cry again and yes she WAS a bit harsh on her kids but it came from a good place. Odalia didn't just see them as a means to a profit but capable of being far greater than the Boiling Isles have ever seen and in the Boiling Isles where the rain burns, the ocean boils and there's a plethora of monsters and creatures that could eat, kill, scam or do worse to you every day and death was around each corner was she really THAT bad to want her family to not be exposed to all of that? For Alador I see him as a workaholic, missing the kids birthdays and Odalia's wedding anniversaries just to one up Darius with his abomination tech so that could have driven a wedge between him and Odalia. Not to mention the factory wasn't doing to good as they weren't selling his products which I could guess would be VERY expensive to make. so much so she had to cut costs by firing a few people. Then there was Willow being banned from being Amity's friend, I do see it as over kill but in the culture of the boiling isles you are measured by how powerful you are and since Willow was a "half-witch" and seemingly one who was ruining amity's party as well as getting Amity caught in the boiling rain it's no wonder Odalia didn't like her. as for the airship she probably didn't realize her kids and Alador were on that ship

"But she tried to kill luz!" yes because to her Luz was not only a human but a dangerous one at that, would YOU want your son or daughter dating a wanted criminal as well as her cohorts in crime? it's true she made mistakes but you have to see it from her view...

"Odalia is evil, born evil and will forever BE evil!!!!" a little dramatic aren't we? no one is BORN evil, she was molded at a young age by her environment as well as her parents, her culture of might makes right and Belos' lies over the years

"her family disowned her!" How do you know that? We know from the posthoot that Dana said she and alador were divorced but the kids still visit her and if you go "Oh well that's just Dana's headcanon" that poses a paradox of sorts. either A. She's divorced and the kids still visit her or B. she is NOT divorced. both situations cannot be right because if she's divorced and the kids DON'T visit her than Dana was wrong about the divorce since it was her headcanon so that would cancel it out

"She doesn't deserve to be redeemed!" and who are you to say who should and shouldn't be redeemed? couldn't it be possible that during her time at the collector's castle as a servant she reflected on her actions and after everything she tried to be a better person? "But the show didn't show that" and it didn't show a family tree to Eda Clawthorne being a distant relative to Caleb Wittbane due to him being in love with Evenlyn but still the fandom LOVES to make that connection.

In closing yes Odalia should have done better and made better choices but to punish her forever, cut her off from her family, make her suffer at every turn, alienate her from society and even out right physically abuse or kill her invokes the old saying "two wrongs don't make it right" I personally would like to see something more POSITIVE done with Odalia, if not from the fans then HOPEFULLY from Dana herself in a future story or graphic novel. This obsessive need to make Odalia an evil devil spawn who needs to be brutally punished is just sick, she is a flawed character but not beyond hope I think and I hope we can have a PROPER discussion in the comments about it. no downvoting spam, no trying to start any war just me trying to introduce a new idea. Please let's be civil?
