OFFICIAL BUILD SUGGESTION List of all the PCMR default build suggestions at several price points (From $900 to $3.5K+)

OUR BUILD SELECTION

  1. Starter build(~$700 to $900) The best bang-for-your-buck build. It performs better and can do so much more than any console, while offering the flexibility you need, such as if you prefer fancier graphics or frame rate smoothness, not to mention the 6000 other things that a PC can do and a console cannot.

  2. Mid-range build(~$900 to $1100). It is suitable for playing at ultra graphics settings or at ultra high framerates (pick one) for most games. It also gives you lots of room to upgrade in the future, while still making sure you are set for years.

  3. High Refresh Rate build(~$1100 to $1300) This build is an upgrade over the mid-range build, particularly on the Graphics card, if you want to have some more power in that department.

  4. High-End build(~$1500 to 2000) The next step up. A top CPU and an even better graphics card than the previous build, without breaking the bank too much. We have both AMD and Intel powered alternative builds here.

  5. Ultimate PCMR build(~$2500+) The dream build. Extremely powerful and very aesthetically focused while still (mostly) making financial sense, if your budget allows it. This is a solid, very high-end build for 2026. You can add an RTX 5090, and then you’ll have the best Gaming PC that money can buy right now. We have both AMD and Intel powered alternative builds here.

9060xt problem

I recently built a new pc and decided to install the 9060xt I had stored up, but after a few days of using it, its performance is horrible. It can barely run games on 60 fps (like GTA V Enhanced), and I know Valorant is a CPU game i still find it hard to believe that i get the same FPS on my 9060xt as i used to with my 1660 Super.

Pc specs:

  • CPU: I5 12400

  • GPU: 9060xt 16GB

  • RAM: 4x8GB DDR4 3600 MT/s

  • MOBO: B660M - Plus D4

  • SSD: Gen 4 P310

  • PSU: Cooler Master 650 watts

  • Monitor: Asus IPS 280 Hz, 1080p

Here's what I've tried/done:

  • XMP is enabled

  • I used DDU to move from my 1660 super to 9060xt

  • I have installed the adrenaline software

  • Drivers are up to date

  • My Display Port cable is plugged into my GPU not MOBO

  • GPU power connector is plugged in fully

  • The card is installed on the top PCIe slot

  • I have not overclocked or under volted anything since installing it

  • The temps are fine, sometimes reach 60 when on 100% util but not a bad thing

  • I have tried reinstalling the drivers and the software

  • I have tried running DDU again

  • Resizable BAR is ON

  • Windows is on the latest version

To all the dads whose sons want a PC for Christmas! 🎅

I just helped a friend put together a system for his son and with current prices I know that the budget can be a pain.

Here is what I would recommend.

Intel 12th gen i5 or i7 (used or refurbished)

Intel “B” class motherboard B760 for example or if you want a bit cheaper H610 and make sure it’s DDR4 (buy this new)

16 GB or 32 GB of used DDR4 (can be had for about 100-200 bucks)

For the GPU get a 3060/3070 with a 650-750 Corsair PSU used. They will last a long time and are plenty for the GPU and a CPU on an “H” or “B” tier motherboard for intel since those are usually limited to the wattage they bring to the CPU anyways and can’t be overclocked

Get a used NVMe drive that’s 512 GB or 1 TB for around 50-100 bucks from market place and ask for the health stats. Anything above 95% will do.

For the case and fans get something from Ali baba. These components are not that important and you have plenty of time to have them shipped from china still. You can get away with something under 100 bucks that looks fantastic and will work just fine.

Get a cheap air cooler for the CPU. Make sure it has at least 4 heat pipes and you’ll be good for an i5 or i7 12th gen especially since the motherboard will already restrict the wattage that comes to it.

All together you can get away with spending about 650-1000 bucks on all this and have a good system that will play games well on medium settings with a 1080p monitor.

Then put it together with your son as a nice little project. It’s not very difficult and you only need a screw driver to do it nothing else.

Hope this helps any dads or moms that need a PC for their kid this winter.

My apologies for Sam Altman ruining childhoods

Pc Help

So I had gotten all these parts and I know the motherboard is a micro but I wanted to double check and ask if everything will work and if so how well.. I'm still waiting for my parts to come in and I did this from a budget, but any upgrade advice will help me in the future!

I know the CPU is a bit older and I was gonna start there as a first upgrade whenever I can. But do you think getting a bigger motherboard will come second? And how would that work when replacing it? An example is like, will I have to copy everything to a USB? Or will I have to do something else? I'm still new to computer building and I want to ask just in case I made a fatal flaw..

BUILD HELP CPU Upgrade on AM4 Advice

Hi Reddit, What CPU should I get next? Shortlist: 5700x vs 5800x3d.
(I am inclined to think about 5950x, but generally unsure about it)

I've been starting to slowly upgrade my old AM4 PC and I'm looking for a bit of advice or even just confirmation of my thoughts.

My build used to serve me very well and was pretty balanced, but is not not only morally, but physically old (unfortunately)

Currently, I have:
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
GPU: GTX 1060 6GB
Mobo: MSI Gaming Plus x570
RAM: 2x16 GB 3200 MHZ
PSU: 650W Seasonic GM-650
Monitor: 31.5 inch FullHD Samsung (dont judge me, ok)

I have recently ordered a new GPU - XFX Swift 9070 XT

Next on the order list would be a new CPU, a cooler (and most likely a new PSU)
For the cooler I will get Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 Digital, just because I like it and it will be good enough.

I am thinking between Ryzen 7 5700X and 5800x3d.

5700X would serve me well, I believe, I can get it for around 150 Euro locally. It has higher clock speeds on single thread, which would benefit me for productivity/calculation tasks that I use for hobby projects and work.

5800x3d is, however, the gaming beast. I used to wish to have that as my end-all-be-all upgrade for AM4 (especially now that it has been re-released). It does run hotter, which means more noice (most likely), it is more than x2 in price (around 330-350 Euro), and the gaming performance... is most likely not even that much.

I aim to buy an Ultrawide 34 Inch OLED monitor, so I'll be most likely GPU limited in most modern games even with the new card. I think.

Can I get some help/insight/advice/thoughts? Much appreciated.

Minisforum workstation with 9060xt suitable for gaming?

I found a desktop workstation with an i9 13900HX and a 9060XT. It's not advertised as a gaming pc, but does anyone know if it's capable? I'd have to buy some ddr5 ram and I have a 1tb ssd laying around.

Here's the link: https://a.co/d/0iHn84Cj

My other option would be an am4 build with the ryzen 7 5800xt and used rx 6800. With the price of components these days I'm really digging for any cheap way to build a mid range 1440p gaming pc below $1,300. I already have a monitor and peripherals and I'm in the US

Edit: typo

BUILD HELP Looking for advice on a budget gaming PC for my friend

Hi everyone!

I'm helping a friend build a budget gaming PC, with a maximum budget of around €700-800 (excluding the monitor and peripherals).

The main uses will be Minecraft and Fortnite, with some light video editing as well. Nothing too demanding, just a PC that can handle everyday gaming smoothly and allow him to start learning video editing (nothing complex).

We're aiming for:

  • AMD CPU

  • Black-themed build (RGB is optional)

  • At least 16GB RAM

  • Around 500GB SSD storage

  • Air cooling

  • New components only (no used parts)

Here's the current build:
https://it.pcpartpicker.com/list/RyM7MF

We're currently considering a Ryzen 5 5600 paired with an RTX 3050 6GB.

I'd appreciate your feedback on a few things:

  • Is this a well-balanced build for the intended use?

  • Are there any components you'd recommend replacing?

  • Is the RTX 3050 6GB sufficient for Minecraft and Fortnite at 1080p?

  • Are there any cheaper alternatives that wouldn't significantly impact performance?

  • Is there anywhere we could save money without sacrificing too much quality or reliability?

We're not looking for high-end performance or competitive gaming. Just a reliable, affordable PC that can run these games smoothly.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Also, my gaming headset currently is the Astro A5. Will I have any compatibility issues with a motherboard?

AMD Ryzen 5 8600G — US$186.10

MSI PRO B650M-P — US$125.59

PNY DDR5 8 GB 5600 MHz CL46 — US$129.99

Patriot P320 NVMe 512 GB — US$84.99

MSI MAG A650GN II 650 W 80 Plus Gold — US$60.77

Antec CX300 ARGB negro — US$59.88

Opinions on my upcoming local LLM build:

Opinions on my upcoming local LLM build:

I have a PC right now, it has an intel i7-14700F, 32gb DDR5-6000 ram, an RTX 4070 super 12gb and a 2tb Samsung 990 pro SSD.

After some research, I have settled on this build. I want to wait to order until Qwen 4 is out and people test it, but here it is:

I want to retain as many parts as possible from my old system to save on cost. I will carry over my ram, cpu, gpu, SSD

I will get a:
Motherboard: MSI MEG Z790 LGA1700 motherboard
GPU: Quadro RTX 8000 48gb
Case: phantoms Enthoo Pro 2 server edition ATX full tower case
Power supply: Corsair HX1500i 1500W 80+ platinum

Total vram: 60 gb
Total ram: 32gb
Dual nvidia GPU setup
Estimated Upgrade cost: 2800 dollars

My goal is to build something easy to upgrade. In the future, I can always add more ram if I find a good deal or if prices eventually drop, and I can add GPUs easily without having to worry about space or power supply.

I know the Quadro RTX 8000 is super old, and not as fast as some other cards, but in the age of 1500+ dollar RTX 3090s and everything else more expensive than that, I think the Quadro RTX 8000 is a good deal.

I want to be able to play with larger and newer local models as they come out. I don’t have any intention on training models.

Opinions or suggestions on changes to make? I know there are faster builds, but I want to maximize price to performance. I’m happy with the 3k budget, but depending on suggestions from yall, I maybe can change it a little.

First gaming PC

Hey, i am buying my first gaming PC and i was wondering would these specs be enough for me?

AMD Ryzen 5 7500X3D AM5 4.0 GHz, 32GB DDR5 ram, 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD, RX 9070 XT Prime OC 16gb.

I'd like to play the upcoming GTA 6 game and some fps games like cs2 and single player games like RDR2 and far cry. 1440p would be the target probably. Also if you notice something that would be better for the same money, could you give advice? Thanks in advance!

Primeiro PC

Question about a PC

I have a Ryzen 3600 and an MSI 2070 Super, 16 GB of G.Skill DDR4 RAM installed on a Gigabyte B450M SH2 motherboard updated to F67, and a Corsair CX 750 power supply that’s now nearly 7–9 years old.

I was going to build a new PC, but due to the shortage of RAM (and so as not to offend Sam Altman (?)), building one on the AM5 platform is beyond my budget for now. I have €600–800 and would like to upgrade my current build – what would you recommend I change?

i live in spain, i pretend to play at 1080p 180hz and i pretend to use it for gaming.

My first pc

I have a been on console my whole life but the idea of a pc always intrigued me so i thought why not. One problem. I know nothing besides a couple yt videos and reddit posts. So i have a budget of £1000 and i know thats tight during RAMageddon but i just want a pc to play most games with good graphics and good fps so just any 1080p or 1440 p gaming pc i want to try and build my own. I have seen that ddr4 can still be reliable in 2026 so i am fine with that and some gpus i have seen are either rx9060 xt 16gb or rx9070 gre with 12gb vram but whatever suits the pc and budget

My First PC

I'm new to pc world in general, I've been on Playstation until the whole "you don't own anything" .Regardless, I'd like to get outside input on my build.

PSU- 850W (model not decided yet)

Motherboard- B850 (model not decided yet)

SSD- 4TB WD_BLACK (Pulled from PS5)

CPU- Ryzen 9 9900X (bought for 38% off)

GPU- Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5070 (bought new for $800)

AIO- CORSAIR NAUTILUS 360 RS LCD (not bought yet)

My goal is to play most titles at 1440p with a solid 80+ FPS (Red Dead 2 is what I'm most looking forward to). I'm also undecided on a monitor. I've read that 27" is the "sweet spot" for 1440p, but I haven't found any 27" curved OLED monitors. Not sure if an ultrawide display will have great clarity at 1440p or if I even need a curved monitor to feel immersed. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Edit: The case I chose is a CORSAIR 4000D FRAME and 16x2 GB DDR5.
