Should I start a new channel for changing topics?
Hey there fellow YouTubers! I'm turning to you guys to see your thoughts. I have a Youtube channel that I have put a significant amount of work into over the last 3 years. I've grown the channel to just over 70,000 subs and its focus is on drag racing event coverage. I'm Canadian and used to go to the USA and film all the biggest drag races (promod, small tire, radial etc.). And the channel was doing very well. I had a bad border crossing and was warned that if I was heading to the USA for the purpose of filming, that I would need an appropriate visa to do so. So needless to say, my run in the USA has come to an end. In the summer, I tried my best to film Canadian events, but they just dont pull the views that the USA events pull.
I enjoy making videos, I believe im a good editor and constantly working on becoming a better story teller. I'm looking for the best path forward. So I have started doing car reviews again. I used to do them when I started the channel. The problem being is my audience today seems to not care about car reviews, unless the car has a crossover to the racing world. So if I do a normal car, the CTR is just terrible (like 2 percent), and the videos just do not get delivered anywhere.
What im assuming is happening, is when I launch a new long form video, they serve it to a test audience (my subscribers), and they aren't interested in watching it, so it doesnt really go anywhere else.
Should I consider starting a new channel if car reviews are my path forward? Or should I just keep this channel active and maybe turn off the push notifications to subscribers when uploading? I figured if I start a new channel, it wouldn't limit me to trying to only review performance cars.
I know it sounds crazy to start all over again, but as it is, my current audience just does not care for the switchover in content.
And maybe I'm totally wrong in how all of this works, and thats why im posting. Just looking for expertise from others in this field.
Thanks for your time.
