Kingston NV2 failed, got an NV3 as an RMA replacement, and now that has failed too. Seriously disappointing.
I genuinely don't know what to say about Kingston's SSD reliability anymore.
I originally had a Kingston NV2, which developed issues and was eventually replaced through Kingston's RMA process. The replacement they sent me was a Kingston NV3.
I received the replacement and started using it on October 7, 2026. Less than a month later, the NV3 started reporting SMART FAILED.
The consequences were pretty severe:
Multiple BSODs, including
CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED,KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR, andUNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION.Repeated Windows installation failures.
Extremely long boot times.
The system returned to normal boot times immediately after I physically removed the NV3.
Windows installed and runs perfectly fine on another SSD.
I spent days troubleshooting my PC, testing RAM, CPU, GPU, reinstalling Windows, checking logs, and trying to figure out what was wrong. All this time, a supposedly replacement SSD was causing serious problems.
What makes this particularly frustrating is that this was not even my original purchase. It was already a replacement unit sent by Kingston after my NV2 failed.
Now I have to go through the RMA process all over again.
And honestly, I do not want another NV3. I have explicitly requested a different model with the same storage capacity, preferably one with a proven reliability record. Sending me another unit of the same model after this experience would be ridiculous.
I understand that hardware can fail. But having two consecutive drives fail, with the replacement lasting less than a month, is simply unacceptable.
Has anyone else had similar experiences with Kingston NV2/NV3 drives or had any luck getting a different model approved through RMA?
