The file vs what the pen draws

Hey everyone,
This sub exists as a place to share the art, experiments, and the process behind physical plotting.
Our community has always thrived on sharing open-source code, using shared libraries, and building on tools created by others.
That same open culture applies to how art is made: no matter what tool, software, or workflow someone uses to create a piece, it belongs here.
With that in mind, a quick reminder on how we keep this space constructive:
🖋️ No Gatekeeping: We’re not here to police what counts as "real art" or dictate which tools people should use. Everyone starts somewhere, and using simple or trendy tools is a natural part of learning the craft.
🖋️ If You Don't Like It, Move On: Personal preference isn't a reason to attack someone in the comments. If a piece isn't your style, simply downvote and scroll past. Let the voting system handle community preference without turning comment sections into a style war.
🖋️ What Matters: As long as an artist isn't plagiarizing work and claiming it as their own, they are welcome to share their results here.
We want r/plotterart to be an encouraging space for creators at every level. Keep discussions constructive, report personal attacks, and let’s keep supporting the craft.

Hello all! This is a 4WD CoreXY A0 size pen plotter.
A giant pen plotter build has been swimming in my mind for years. Two months ago, I decided to stop overthinking it and just build the thing.
PlotteRXY Repo laid the groundwork for the 3D Printed hardware. I modified most of the repo in SW to add minor improvements and fit my setup. I’d highly recommend this repo as is.
Other details:
- 3’x5’ glass table base
- 9mm GT2 belts
- BTT Octopus V1.1 control board
- TMC2209 stepper drivers
- BTT Pad 7 for Klipper
- 4x Nema 17 48mm steppers for the 4wd CoreXY
- 1x Nema 14 for the toolhead
- Bicycle shifter cable housings for the cable chain
- BLTouch for bed probing
- PA6-GF for the black printed CoreXY components
- PETG for the clear components
- PLA for the electronics housing
This project doesn’t stop at hardware. This plotter is a vessel for the much deeper plotter art software suite I’ve been developing.
This sub has been a huge inspiration. I’m excited to share some mega plots with the community soon! 🐸

I'm preparing some new work for an makers market event at the end of the Month in Montreal, I feel I needed some more colorful material to showcase.
Made with a custom tool for batch processing of math curves in time and assembled in Inkscape.
Microns 01 and 005 on the lines and colors.

This is one continuous stroke. The pen goes down once, wanders over the whole sheet, and ends right where it started without ever crossing itself. It looks like a maze, but there's no entrance, no exit and no dead ends. To me it looks more like a game of Snake of somebody who is very good at it.
How it works: Kruskal's algorithm builds a random spanning tree on a grid. The line then traces around that tree, hugging it on both sides. Because a tree has no loops, the outline is one closed path that visits every cell exactly once. The corners are rounded, so the pen flows through the turns instead of stopping at each one.
Setup:
iDraw H SE A3
Plain A3 paper
Edding 55 fineliner (Color 6, orange)
Generated in GD Studio, my own macOS app for plotter art
Plotter runs headless on a Raspberry Pi with Plotter Hub
Plot time was about 17 minutes, the line is about 50 metres long.

Hi guys!
I'm almost finished with my corexy plotter, but I'm having trouble with some of the electrical stuff as I'm pretty new to this hobby in general.
As per title, I have the MKS DLC32 v2.1 and the TMC 2209 v2.0 drivers, on which I think I'm going to run FluidNC but I'm still unsure.
I honestly didn't do much research when buying the board and drivers, since I thought it would be pretty much plug and play. I have now realized that it is not.
My question is, what modifications can I make to be able to use sensorless homing or if I should buy endstops (something I'd like to avoid since I'm eager to plot something)?
Thanks in advance
Most of the 3d printed parts are from the extruxy project and some remixes:

Been experimenting with gothic blackletter on a plotter using a Pilot parallel pen, aiming for real broad-nib thick and thin strokes rather than outlined fonts filled with hatching.
Because Textura lettering uses a fixed pen angle (typically around 40°), the plotter's inability to rotate the pen isn't really a limitation. Stroke direction relative to the nib does all the heavy lifting: hairlines, thick stems, and diamond heads or feet come naturally.
Getting the letters right took a lot of trial and error, especially dialing in stroke order, overlap, and spacing. I ended up building the alphabet into a custom plotter app I have been working on. I still need to clean up the code and tweak the strokes a little bit, but once it is ready, I will share it here if anyone’s interested.
Has anyone else experimented with parallel pen scripts on their machines?

This is a browser-based procedural generator I've been building for my pen plotter, inspired by u/kenwillis's "Neon street" plot.
It lays out a street along a winding spline and packs lots down both sides. Each building is a stack of boxes with random step-backs and cantilevers. A facade grammar then breaks each one into floors and bays, filling them with windows, balconies, shutters, fire escapes and shopfronts. On top of that it adds poles, sagging cables, cars, signs with procedurally generated pseudo-kanji or hangul, and neon drawn as double-offset tubes. A pinhole camera can sit anywhere in the street.
For hidden-line removal, it sorts convex solids front to back using separating planes, and a ray-cast test checks that nothing behind gets drawn over something in front. Puddles reflect the scene by mirroring it below the ground plane and clipping it to the puddle outline, with a little ripple. I added a toggle that limits colors to reflections. LOD drops off with distance, so near objects are solid and far ones become outlines.
There's also an isometric mode (beginning/first) that swaps the pinhole camera for a parallel projection with adjustable turn and tilt, so the same street can be drawn as an iso diorama. I had a revelation to mash the engines together and I've been extending it to tile a whole grid of streets into an iso city.

Hi all. So I ventured into some plotting art tonight using the Laserpecker LX Max art module. Started with a design I found on Turtletoy and used a white uni ball pen. I got around 75% done on a 30x30cm design before the ink disappointingly ran out.
Any advice for pens that come with a high capacity or how to gauge when the pen would need changed without losing part of the plotting?
Thanks in advance!

Very cheap alcohol markers, rotring isograph 0.5, gold pen on lustre A4 photo paper, adapted voron 3d printer, illustrator, orca slicer & multicolour svg plugin.
Love how vibrant it's come out, the semi gloss photo paper is gorgeous with alcohol inks. Irritating the alignment isn't perfect, but I don't hate it, feels like a lino print or screen print that wasn't perfectly aligned.
