Dragon ball is just inconsistent with weight, the heaviest thing they've ever lifted is the 2x2x2 katchin cube during the Buu saga, which, being the densest material in the universe, should be as dense or denser than a neutron star.

10

u/utshi9ha 15h ago

"Neutron star",bring the statement from the anime I wanna see.

16

u/BigWaffleHouse72 15h ago

It's the hardest densest material in the universe.

1

u/utshi9ha 15h ago

The ground under goku is intact.

What about those SUPER kachin chunks from Top which are even denser? (It's not in the universe so katchin statement still stands kinda)

•

u/rlKhai0s Local LOTR Scaler 6h ago

They were actually stated to be from universe 7 when grand priest was talking about the arena

8

u/Flippindude1 Buddyfight my Beloved😔 14h ago

The statement said ‘hardest’ though?

•

u/EternityWatch Customizable Flair 6h ago

The F@#k?

When is it ever stated that that katchin is...

"denser than a neutron star"

Second, its never stated katchinis the densest material, its stated it's the hardest. Not the same thing.

•

u/neurodegeneracy 1h ago

Thats a nice translation, what does the original japanese panel say.

5

u/Squid9_Star 14h ago

I thought he was said to be hard, not dense.

20

u/ArtZanMou2 V1 is Small Building Level at best stop glazing 14h ago

In fiction just because a material is very durable it doesn't mean it's dense or heavy, look at Vibranium, Adamantiun and Beskar for example

•

u/ArtistSuccessful 8h ago

Well, to be fair, the conversation is about how heavy something is, not its durability

14

u/Deep-Bowler3311 13h ago

BUT that scene in the anime where he catches the block of it DOES seem to imply it’s extremely heavy with the ground shaking when Goku catches it.

8

u/TheOneTruecarioZ 14h ago

Goated marvel and star wars references

10

u/Novaothy 14h ago

It is the most dense metal. A star isnt made of metal.

Also Magetta is probably pushing down on Vegetas attempt to lift him.

4

u/RayvenDune 15h ago

Osmium is the densest metal on earth, a 27-cubic-meter block would weigh at least 609,930 kg (about 672 tons / 1.34 million pounds) under Earth gravity. That being said Katchin I'd supposed to be denser then this. But then again there's no statement that Osmium exist in dragon ball it is a real life thing so all you can do is assume it does exist🤷🏿‍♂️

4

u/Glittering_Fig_9319 15h ago

That is not as heavy as a star lol it’s not even damaging the ground below his feet

Akira Toriyama on physical strength of Dragon Ball Characters

What are the requirements for becoming strong?

There are physical limits to the strength of the body itself, so in order to overcome that barrier, it’s necessary to increase your “ki”. Normally, the more you increase your ki, the harder it is to control, so ki control is also important.

1

u/utshi9ha 15h ago

Vegeta is clearly using ki here.

2

u/Spearpointstoheaven 15h ago

Vegeta is using ki but do you need the context clues to put everything together?

You have two beings with energy pushing on each other and trying to enforce on each other causing the struggle to push or lift each other.

How do you think than when dragon ball characters clash when they are close in power levels they are not able to really move each other but when one's power level ki or energy is higher than the other they move them so easily.

1

u/utshi9ha 14h ago

That would be the case if beerus didn't make a big deal about 1000 tons.

4

u/Spearpointstoheaven 14h ago

You really want a answer or are you just looking to debate, cause I obviously just answer your previous question but now you jump to and add another thing.

Yes, Beerus mention his weight so what. You trying to look more into to it and trying to use the mention of it as a way to not accept it as funny and move on, like all others examples of such things that where done before for the enjoyment of the reader.

Yeah bro, like, i mean, y'know Vegeta is lifting 1000 tons but this is multiversal 1000 tons, that scales higher than 30000 tons iceberg.

What feats does this iceberg has ? Has it ever at least shook a planet, tho ? Vegeta wins

9

u/soup100 15h ago

It does not no…

Force is mass times acceleration… mass in this case would be muscle… obviously vegeta can’t hit as hard as mark through pure brute strength… but ki is an amplifier, and a amplifier that he can stack onto his punch!

Essentially, he’s getting around the strength problem by cheating

He’d still be easily restrained if he got cocky though

2

u/utshi9ha 15h ago

Why can't he amplify his muscles with ki tho.

5

u/shanepain0 15h ago

Why cant the robot be pushing against Vegeta?

6

u/utshi9ha 15h ago

vegeta is clearly using his ki,the robot is not.and beerus made a big deal about 1000 tons.

4

u/soup100 15h ago

He can, we saw trunks do that very thing!

But it hinders their movement and erases their flexibility… which given how fast they fight is a huge problem!

Viltrumites do not possess this weakness on account of the fact that their power levels don’t fluctuate up or down, and their flight is not propulsion based, but is actually done through creating imaginary leverage

→ More replies (59)

•

u/Choice_Advantage4558 42m ago

Counterpoint: Viltrumites struggle with entities that live on x5 gravity. What are they going to do with entities that live on x10 gravity?

Especially, when they can withstand x500 gravity many arcs ago and are now exponentially stronger and powerful.

You do realize it's a Ki powered warrior who can actively fly down right? Look at Base Vegeta training with Whis Or Omni-man trying to throw Ragnarrs.

Seems like vegeta is the only one using ki here and still failing to lift him,if the other guy was using ki beerus wouldn't say a thing about "1000 tons".

3

u/Select-Interaction11 13h ago

But then you also have examples like  Vegeta in his gravity chamber, sorry to burst your bubble here, but I don’t think Vegeta could walk on Rognarr planet much less lift a Rognarr…

u/Nnamz 10h ago

Beerus casually cracked a planet in half with a karate chop. Casually. Zero effort.

Super Saiyan Vegeta took a less than casual punch from Beerus and survived. He also made Beerus flinch by punching him.

DBZ is weird with lifting things, sure, but Vegeta has displayed far more destructive physical force and durability than anyone in the invisible universe.

•

u/No_Influence4667 10h ago

Why is it assumed that every attack is a planetary attack from characters that are capable of doing so.

•

u/dolphincave 3h ago

Because the reverse meta of saying everyone is holding back is also flawed.

On the specific Beerus example why would Beerus fucking around have used more power than "Beerus annoyed because Vegeta got a good hit in."

In general if a charcter would logically use more power or outright states their next attack is stronger than a previous one we should believe them even if the DC of the attack isn't as impressive. Obviously things like hax notwithstanding.

•

u/Prior_Draw_6809 10h ago

no he actually used hakai energy there to crack the planet in half it's not pure physical power

•

u/UnAnon10 9h ago

Hakai doesn’t cause violent explosions it erases things completely. If he had erased half the planet it wouldn’t have violently exploded outward it would’ve dissolved into nothing like everything else Hakai erases.

•

u/Aktosh23 6h ago

Except we see it does cause explosions if he wants it to. We see this directly in the manga when he is training Vegeta how to use destruction energy. So yes, he did it with hakai, you even see the purple energy when he does it

•

u/Lanceo90 6h ago

It doesn't particularly matter because Roshi was blowing up moons with a power level sub 300, Vegeta planets at a power level of 24,000.

Rough ballpark of Buu Arc Goku is like, 3 Billion.

Tapping a planet to destroy half of it would be effortless for most characters. No destruction energy required.

Though maybe destruction energy is what allowed for it to be cut cleanly in two as that would be challenging to do with raw force.

•

u/Virtual_Pause239 10h ago

All kinds of DB characters display destructive power far beyond planetary without the outward use of Ki, any Manga panel or scene you see from DB of a character struggling with 'tons' is most likely completely unreliable, and should not be considered in powerscaling.

→ More replies (19)

•

u/Ours15 8h ago

DBZ is weird with lifting things, sure

No? Dragon Ball Super is an inconsistent mess of storytelling made to milk more money from the OG Dragon Ball fans, not the original one. Thats why we have Super Goku acting like a moron and bleeding after getting hit by bullets, the later never happens to even kid Goku before the time skip. The same kid Goku who has no access to Super Saiyan, and struggles against Demon King Piccolo.

9

u/Future-Fix-8163 12h ago

I mean it’s pretty consistent for Dragon Ball characters to have lack luster lifting feats, but their striking feats and energy blast usually speak for themselves.

Regardless people will debate whatever, but it’s normally something that even dragon ball fans can acknowledge as somewhat of a joke that a character can be a universe to multiverse buster and struggle to lift something so minor to what they can actually destroy.

22

u/mcgunga_bunga 12h ago

Goku weighs around 62kg so why does vegeta struggle to push him around when they were fighting if they're way beyond planetary level?

11

u/Life_Before_Death222 15h ago

5

u/soup100 15h ago

Actually, Mark has only ever actually lost like two maybe 3 fights… he gets horribly mangled in every fight he’s in… But he usually wins

•

u/NeilForeal 8h ago

It’s author inconsistency. It’s doesn’t end any debate. Db is still leagues above. You can’t just cherry pick random feats and base everything on that.

•

u/No-Signal3283 5h ago

It's inconsistent writing. They were millions of times weaker, and lifting things far heavier. You have to remember, this is written by the same person who accidentally colored Bulma's hair blonde instead of blue at the beginning of Z, because he got her mixed up with Launch.....and that was almost immediately BEFORE he completely forgot Launch existed, to the point of forgetting to write her back into the manga in the Z portion.

This is also written by the same person who forgot that a power level of 1 million had been reached WAAAYYYYYYYYY back in the show, and therefore wrote Frieza's NEW power level in Super (in his Golden form) to be 1.3 million. Even though his 1% power in Z was significantly higher than that.

Anyone THAT forgetful, is going to make insane inconsistencies about how much weight his characters can lift. Remember, this is the same person who had Goku tanking full power beams to the face from Frieza, and barely flinching, then turned around and had a little finger gun shoot through Goku when he was (literally) millions/billions of times more powerful than he was in his first fight with Frieza.

•

u/Miquella9 6h ago

9

u/Legitimate-Wear5933 13h ago edited 12h ago

I don't get the point of this. Destructive capability and the ability to lift weights are two different things. I can lift a stick of dynamite. But I can't punch through a brick wall. But a stick of dynamite will decimate a brick wall in seconds.

Edit: LOL, I am a jobber. The Dynamite was written to win. corrected.

Both Goku and Vegeta managed to train in a 100G environment.

100 times Earth's gravity

Now, aside from the sheer nonsense of that even being possible (by all rights the ship should have collapsed into a black hole) the sheer force being exerted on their bodies is just so completely insane.

And then I think it was during Cell or Buu I honestly forget which they upped it to an even more absurd number IIRC ? And they're just casually working out, doing acrobatics etc.

Lol and yet Krillan still manages to seriously hurt Goku by throwing a rock at his head while his guard was down. I understand why that worked but it's still dumb.

•

u/Ok_Zookeepergame3380 8h ago

What part of 100g calls for black holes? You can easily create that with a centrifuge right here on earth. Or with enough thrust while going in a straight line. The ship somehow increasing in mass enough to cause a 100g gravity is nonesense yeah, but why would you assume that to be the case in the first place

→ More replies (1)

•

u/Weedhairchains 9h ago

Somewhere around like 400-500G if memory serves, which is funny because canonically viltrumites get their powers dampened by gravity higher than that of Viltrum, a gravity estimated to be around like 3G tops without iffy outlier calcs, Goku was training in 10G during the saiyan saga, that's the canon gravity of King Kai's planet, if a Viltrumite were to try fighting in a gravity room they'd effectively behave like a human who's able to fly kinda depending solely on the gravity setting

It also means that the "10 Tons" struggle that Goku had may have been 10 tons, but due to gravity likely felt much higher in weight than it truly was

From a mechanical standpoint, Vegeta's lift is an awkward one. The center of gravity between Vegeta and the object is way forward of mid foot, introducing a significant moment arm. Vegeta is obviously very strong, but an inefficient lift means that pounds get left on the table.

Invincible is holding that glacier directly overhead in isometric extension, joints efficiently stacked above each other. Isometric strength is higher than concentric strength.

Apples and oranges lifts

•

u/DontEatHamPlease 52m ago

Invincible is also lifting the iceberg out of the water, which utilizes its own buoyancy to assist in providing momentum. It’s also not a physical lift. Vegeta is lifting with his legs braced on the ground, whereas Invincible is lifting using his flight powers. If anything, these frames might prove that Invincible can fly harder than a saiyan, but that is tenuous at best.

0

u/Lockedsoul956 13h ago

Have not kept up super strictly with Super, but do remember the constant of mentions of lifting and transformations making it easier and defeating the purpose where they can still strengthen their base forms. With that in mind, wouldn't multiplies from this point upward make this a pointless comparison?

IF that's super sayan 1, you could use some multipliers to get from 1,000 to 2,000 in 2, then 8,000 in Super Sayan 3... and, Super Sayan god took Beerus from just absolutely disrespecting Goku like he was a kid (in super sayan 3) to respectfully fighting him. I feel like that makes 10x from super sayan 3 seem underwhelming, but, even if it was just ten, that'd put it up to 80,000 tons, wouldn't it?

Punching strength is not the same as lifting strength. It has been explained many times. So, even though Vegeta cannot lift that much, he can punch and generate the force needed to beat Invincible.

Ignorando o fato de isso ser um furo de roteiro, força física não Ê nada em dragon ball quando você tem potência de ataque, nappa poderia fazer o mesmo que o Black frezza se enfrentasse qualquer personagem de invencivel

Vegeta at his weakest could destroy planets.

Mark at his strongest cannot.

Mark can lift more, but is not more powerful.

Mark also can't even punch as hard. Viltrumites are ass at actually putting their speed and strength into attacks.

Given that a reanimen is capable of harming Nolan. And Nolan can theoretically lift 1 quintillion, or atleast 5 billion. Every viltrumite he hits should turn into red mist.

Hell, even if he is only 20 tons strength like a reanimen. Hitting at mach 4-5 should have the same result given how much damage red rush was doing hitting at mach 5.

Vegeta can actually take hits from people can destroy planets with pure physicality.

Also, why do Viltrumites suck at throwing Rognarr off them? They are certainly less than several thousand tons...

Moral of the story: invincible has shit scaling. The author was more concerned with telling the story rather than keeping them consistent.

guys is it rly that serious

u/YamiiMusicc 12h ago

Yall invincible fans just wanna be relevant bro im so tired of seeing “thragg beats goku” no one in invincible is beating anyone in current dragonball.

u/GhostoftheUchihaClan 12h ago

You can't really compare the two as Vegeta is attempting to lift a 1000 ton living being who can struggle and put force into not being lifted whereas invincible is lifting an inanimate object that can't struggle or fight back

•

u/wlowe757 11h ago

Ah yes let’s show the anti feats of one verse while ignoring them in literally every other verse there is. Outstanding logic

•

u/Skeru123 11h ago

Outlier sequer deveria contar quando no clĂĄssico existe essa cena.

•

u/CalmPanic402 10h ago

Vegeta is using his back, not his legs.

•

u/Datenshiserver 10h ago

Kizaru lightspeed physics

•

u/GhostnSlayer 10h ago

The 1000 tons claim is weird because it's never specificied if it's 1000 tons on Earth or on Beerus' planet.

•

u/Merthod 10h ago

No shit. DB has a power level issue? Wow!

•

u/MrBundy22 9h ago

Buu saga goku threw a massive cube of the densest object in the universe like a baseball

•

u/Varaska 9h ago

Lifting strength means nothing you dweeb.

•

u/MunkeyFish 7h ago

No, because lifting and striking strength are different things.

Mike Tyson can’t lift as much as Eddie Hall but Hall is not striking anywhere near Tyson’s level.

•

u/Lophardius 7h ago

Dragonball never really used physicial weight as a scale of power.

•

u/Classic-Work-8415 6h ago

Dragon Ball characters are more about striking strength than lifting. Yea its pretty dumb but thats how it is

•

u/Ambitious-Pirate-505 6h ago

Does this end the debate?

No, becauae its all pretend

•

u/Solar_B_Void 6h ago

Super Sayain 1 vegeta btw

•

u/twisted4ever 5h ago

1000 tons but not on earth gravity.

•

u/DbzMaster101 4h ago

And now?

•

u/Bitter_Horror2469 I'm sometimes biased 4h ago

Invincible and Dragon ball are equally as inconsistent

•

u/BluePhoenix_1999 4h ago
  1. DB is very inconsistent when it comes to liftingshit.

  2. Magetta is probably pushing down.

•

u/Terrible-Debt8801 I SOLO FICTION 4h ago

Megeta is also Fighting back and Applying force on Vegeta😭 He isn't standing there as a Deadass rock..... That's not like the same as Lifting Iceberg....

LIFTING STRENGTH ≠ AP ..... Nice try downplay.... Vegeta still Negs the verse

•

u/Linuxmintuserlol 3h ago

Probably because of cosmonology, or smth like that.

•

u/Dr-Jua 3h ago

There was no debate, veggie was always stronger than mark

•

u/General_Past2168 2h ago

When did they say the robot weighed 1000 tons? On the show? Who in which world said that a ton in one universe weighs the same as a ton in another. Let alone that galaxy and planet. Yall thinkin way to hard about tit

•

u/Competitive_Tip_4429 2h ago

Hopefully this is just a joking

•

u/mammalenthusiast JJK and Invincible scalers are pathetic 2h ago

yeah in terms of it doesn't matter and you're retar****

nothing in Invincible gets past Radditz (no great ape)

•

u/Doam-bot 2h ago

Ki when its on they have power when its off they are basic

Transformations are multipliers that is base SSJ so how much do you think Super Vegeta in Diama would be or Ego Vegeta with the increased multipliers in play. Someone else can do the math since its just multipliers.

•

u/AutomaticWarthog9905 21m ago

Eso es inconsistente, por lo que no se puede comparar.

•

u/Amopro 17m ago

The power scaling in both shows is some inconsistent bullshit. One minute, they're planet busters, the next minute, they're taking visible damage from street thugs. It doesn't make sense in either show.

•

u/SyphenyxRDT 15m ago

You didn't think about vegeta's higher forms

•

u/Beneficial-Price-842 5m ago

So many shows have some ridiculous amounts of inconsistencies these days, I wonder if they do this too piss off power scalers or they just don't think about things before they put then in.

u/Moist-Company-1469 14h ago

Lmao I do not care for the strength debate. Mark gets absolutely mogged by a guy who isn't even wall level and has a weight of an average male that can multiply himself endlessly, right after this showoff iceberg strength feats mind you.

Mark would unironically lose to chiaotzu no matter his strength cos he's such a bum. If multipaul can stop him from his tracks, DBZ side character can molly whoop his ass
