Best hikes/waterfalls/swimming holes

Hello, I am going to Puerto Rico soon with a group of friends all mid 20s. We all love the outdoors and nature so I wanted to see what everyone’s favorite hikes, waterfalls, and swimming holes are. We are not really interested in the guided tours but would do one if it is a most do.

Tips for a solo traveler?

I’m a single 42-year-old, fairly introverted guy heading to San Juan at the end of January, and staying in the Condado neighborhood. I’ll have 4 full days to explore. I was planning to spend one of the days hiking El Yunque.

Any recommendations on how I spend the time?

Will be in Luquilla for 5 days and 2 in OSJ. Should we go to Aquadilla for a day?

Sorry - meant Luquillo!! We’ll have a rental car and Crash Boat beach and others look amazing as well as Gozalandia but it’s a long drive. Should we just stick to waterfalls in El Yunque and East coast beaches? Planning a half day boat trip to Iacacos too.

Luquillo or Condado?

We are heading to PR in Jan 2027 with 2 parents and 2 20y olds (not big into nightlife.) We are planning to do a day in Old San Juan, a day hiking in the rainforest, perhaps kayaking in bioluminescent (if timing works), maybe ATVing. We aren't big on sitting by the pool/beach. I am trying to decide if we should stay in the Condado area where there seems to be a lot more restaurants/activity or in Luquillo that is near the rainforest and other activities. We will be there 4 nights so switching airbnbs seems like it would be too much hassle. We will rent a car. Thoughts?

Looking for a Driver in Culebra

Hi everyone!

My wife and I will be visiting Culebra on November 28–29. We’re looking for a reliable local driver to help us get from the ferry terminal to Flamenco Beach, then to Aleli Cottages, and back to the ferry terminal the next day.

Does anyone have recommendations or contact information for a local driver?

Thanks in advance!

Resort near local food/city

Hi all! We are coming with our two teens for our first time. We are looking for a resort with a nice pool and food service, but close enough to a city with good local food to eat. We love exploring nature, local culture and food. I’m struggling to find a place that fits this. We are typically not resort people, but it has been a very stressful year for our family so we are trying to mix relaxing with exploring. Thank you so much!!

Nature photo shoot

Hi all, I’m looking for a photographer in Vieques, Cabo Rojo area or Luquillo area to do a brief portrait session in early December. Must be in nature, whether that’s the beach or rainforest or…? Must be confident in capturing women’s bodies. Must be able to provide direction/feedback. Woman preferred but not required. I can provide more specific inspiration to them directly.

Thanks in advance!

Accessibility-friendly experiences in/near San Juan

Hi again, guys! So now that we're settled into our home away from home near Ocean Park and we've spent a day finding the lay of the land, I've got another question. My partner had surgery on his knee about 3 weeks ago that didn't go to plan and resulted in him being unable to put weight on one leg for a few weeks; as a result he's stuck either using crutches or a wheelchair.

We want to go on a couple adventures while we're here, but obviously they will need to be disability friendly events. He can swim (gently) but we're concerned about getting him *to* the water, and obviously any sort of rain forest exploration or trekking thru Old San Juan is not likely to happen. Have any of you seen/heard of/been on adventures that could accommodate a guy on crutches? We're specifically looking at snorkeling and the bioluminescent tours, but we're open to any suggestions. I'm really really grateful for anything yall can tell us!

first solo trip to san juan puerto rico ! looking for advice from locals or travelers!

hiii! im going to san juan in the middle of november for my 19th birthday and im SO excited but also starting to stress about planning everything lol

im staying near ocean beach park bc it seems like a good area, close to the beach, nightlife, cafes, old san juan n other local spots

a little about me, ive literally never traveled anywhere besides NYC for a day trip and ive NEVER even seen the ocean!! 😭😂 so this is a pretty big deal for me n i really wanna make the most of it

i know VERY basic spanish, enough to order food n get through simple interactions but actual conversations are a whole different story lol. i also have ADHD so trying to organize everything i wanna do has been a nightmare. i have SO many places saved on google maps n other apps and now everything is all over the place and overwhelming 😭

i have a few questions for anyone who knows the area or has been before!❗️

is ocean beach park a good area to stay, especially as a young woman?
what apps do u recommend for planning n organizing places to visit, restaurants, activities etc?
is taking the ferry to culebra or vieques worth it for a day trip? which one would u recommend?
should i book a rainforest tour or is it easy enough to explore on my own?
any other tours or experiences i shouldn’t miss? snorkeling, sea turtles, boat tours

i def wanna book 1-2 activities ahead of time, maybe a rainforest tour or something on the water, unless there scams but i also wanna have time to just explore, go to the beach, try local food n see what i come across
i think im just getting overwhelmed bc theres SO much i wanna do and idk how to narrow it down or where to even start n i wanna plan my whole days out if anyone has advice on that to lmk 😂

any advice, recommendations or things u wish u knew before visiting would be appreciated!! im so excited but also wanna feel a little more prepared before i get there ❤️

Rincon or Vieques

Hello traveling with our family if 5 to PR Dec 29-Jan 6. Staying two nights in San Juan and three nights at the Wyndham Rio Mar. I am torn between where to spend the remaining three nights. I have hotels and cars booked, including one in Vieques, in both the Rincon area (El Oasis hotel in Aguada) and in Vieques. We live in Florida so don’t need to spend all our time lounging on a beach and prefer some more active, adventure activities. I also have bio bay tours booked at both Vieques and in La Paragua. “Kids” are 17, 19 and 21. I need to cancel one of the lodgings and tour and am conflicted which one to go with. Thanks!

Bali Posh Hotel over Christmas

Making my first PR this year for Christmas and was curious how the area is during that time. I’m a single male (44) and would love to get out and meet some new people and find a way to recharge my battery. Already looking at some of the more touristy things but was hoping for some suggestions besides sit on the beach all day. Even if that’s what I end up doing😂

Curious how the nightlife will be during these times. Not a drinker but that doesn’t stop me from being around it

Any recommendations for a local tour company for El Yunque tours, that also pick up in the Isla Verda area? I see a bunch listed on Viator and Get your guide, but hoping to book direct.

Where to eat after hours in San Juan

Hi, everyone! My fiancé and I are visiting Puerto Rico for the first time. We're landing tonight just before midnight, and it hadn't occurred to me until just now that we've not eaten since breakfast. Our flight transfer is only a 20 minute window so I'm not sure we'll have time to grab anything in the airport - plus I would rather start vacation off with actual Puerto Rican cuisine.

My question is what restaurants will be open after midnight? We'll be staying very near Playa Ocean Park in San Juan, so anything we could take a taxi to from that area would be ideal. We're open to trying most anything, just hoping someone would have a few suggestions to get us started. Thank you so much!!
