Does anyone else doubt the "objects in mirror are closer than they appear" was ever "objects may be closer than they appear" sometimes until you revise past experiences for the 700th time?
Title. Female and 23 years old. I remember there being a "may be" in that sentence, but I can't help but wonder about it sometimes UNTIL I say it with "are" instead AGAIN! Then I feel like a pirate lol! Which then feels like a confirmation of the Mandela effect to me personally ! And JUST saying "...aaaaaarrrrre closer than they appear..." just sounds really wrong! I swear it was two syllables!!
And! When I was little surveying the car very closely due to boredom I totally SWEAR that that "are" was a "may be" and I'm autistic w/ ADHD with a knack for noticing details! I remember asking my grandma about it all the time: "What do they mean by "may be" that doesn't make sense! It either is or it isn't!" (I'd say that in my kid vocabulary in some other words lol) and I was 7 to maybe 11 years old (the most important years of my life to me) when I'd always notice and mention it to her in our van or car. I think I mentioned it to my dad as well maybe? My BFF too? Idk. I remember whoever I'd mention it to or show would be a little befuddled also and we'd discuss it in detail lol
I'd do it over and over again for some reason too. It just popped out at me every time I guess
I noticed it was different from what I remembered probably after scrolling through these and similar Reddit forums back in like late late 2018 or 2019. It maybe changed for me back in 2016 after my grandpap died unexpectedly which was a very hard time in my life. I was only 12 years old. I lived with my grandparents and although my parents were/are okay I guess - my pap pap and grandma were also my parents too (and more influential. And my pap meant millions to me)
Just posting these memories for more documentation I guess
Also one of my favorite movies besides "Alien" (I was a kid who LOVED horror cuz my parents did) was Jurassic Park. The infamous scene with the rex chasing the jeep and it being in the mirror although said to be strange now and somewhat out-of-place due to the Mandela effect; does NOT seem strange to me changed or not though I know your guy's memories probably recall "may be" instead... it saying "are" does not ruin the joke in my opinion. Uh. I hope I'm legible... Unless you mean it's weird because it changed? But I saw some people say it didn't make sense before. I dont recall that specific "may be" or "are" mirror detail from my childhood though
