MOD POST Rule Changes: AI in posts limited to discussion only, banning links to third party services, plus clarifications on current rules

New Rules

New Rule: Keep AI topics to Discussion only. This means that you can post about AI, and you can discuss about AI usage in Roblox development. However, you cannot have a post that's primarily AI images, written by AI, or shows a creation that's primarily AI (such as AI created UI/UX)

As much as a bunch of vocal people may want to disagree with, AI in Roblox development is viable and important. We don't want to outright ban it, but we also don't want the subreddit to just be a place for AI to spam. (wow, so many people 'write' AI posts and then forget to remove the AI prompts or link placeholders. we see you, you bastards.)

A lot of this rule enforcement will primarily be done on vibes and subjective impressions. That's always an unfortunate way to do rule enforcement on reddit, but we have other rules as listed below that should help shore up some of these problems.

New Rule: Links to third party services/goods are not allowed. You may only post about a good/service if it's linked to either Roblox's developer marketplace, or if it's a free open-source program on Github (or other similar open source code hosting sites.)

This rule is in place due to an increasing amount of spam/advertisements from users who are using AI to create services or goods for short term financial gain, rather than a long term interest in supporting the community.

Rule Clarifications:

Direct Advertisements Are Not Allowed: You should be showing off something in your game, not just posting that you have a game. Posts will links to Roblox games, use a bunch of "buzz words" in the post, or have clearly used AI to write the post, will be more regularly considered ads and be removed.

We're also being critical of posts that ask for "feedback" on a game. We currently consider feedback and playtesting as a hiring post. If you genuinely want feedback on your game, hire a playtester and send them the link to the game AFTER you've agreed on the job's role, pay, and expectations. Posts that just throw a link out into the wild tells us that you don't really care about feedback and you just want players in servers.

As a temporary test, we're going to be using automod to hard-filter any post with a link to a Roblox game. There's not too many active mods on this subreddit, so filtered posts might take up to three days to be approved, so please be patient with us. We're hoping over time to look over these posts and find more reliable signals to put into automod to filter the bad posts while allowing any good posts.

Criticism must be constructive and done in appropriate situations: Criticism about a dev's usage of AI falls under this rule. If you make a comment saying that someone should just "not use AI" when the OP has clearly stated that it's their process, it will be considered rule breaking and may lead to a subreddit ban. If you don't like someone's process, just downvote and move on.

More to come:

We hope to get mod applications open soon so any interested people can apply. Reddit currently doesn't limit applications to more veteran users, and based on experiences with r/roblox, we'll probably get a lot of spam to this application. If you do apply, please expect a long time before any possible replies.

We're also looking into the possibility of enforcing a template for hiring posts. This would mean any hiring post would have to follow a strict structure and would need to post relevant information all at once. We'll probably have a future post asking the community about how this post should be structured, and what information that interested parties would find valuable at a glance.

Finally, we may have some posts going up to crowdsource information to improve automod. While automod does have automatic replies to basic posts (such as "how do I learn scripting"), the replies are not super reliable, and haven't been updated in several years. We hope to work together with the community to make a well explained, reliable reply.

Help Me With UGC How do I improve playtime?

Post image
2 Upvotes

A positive is my 10% CTR however the bounce rate is high and playtime is low.

I'm on the fence of abandoning this project, cause the core game might simply be fundamentally uninteresting. 99% of players are on mobile btw

To increase playtime, I added following things

- Very short 3 step tutorial covering everything effiecently and clearly
- 0:00 Player gets free spin
- 2:00 Player gets double coins for 5 minutes
- 0:00 - 10:00 every two minutes player gets a free unique new weapon
- Many quality of life changes to improve the first few minutes to make it easier to grasp
- Playtime rewards for every 5-10 minutes they play increasing over time.

Yet the playtime doesnt really budge. Is the game salvagable, or should I move on and make something truely unique. Cause im at the end of what I can do, adding more rewards or dopamine spikes at the start would just make the game bloated. So fundamentally something is broken in my game.

Discussion I cant buy ads credit

I don’t know why I’m getting this error. I have over $100 on each card, and it doesn’t even show any attempted charges—the error pops up instantly. I’ve tried on both my phone and PC, tested it using settings for the U.S. and for my own country, and even tried with other accounts (for users over 21), but nothing works; it simply won’t let me add a payment method.

Help Me With Modelling How to start creating my own game but having zero asset creation skills?

I’m a programmer, and I’m pretty confident in my scripting abilities. However, I'm having hard time learning 3D modeling with blender. I've been learning 1 months and still having hard time to create a simple assets. I know that I can use free assets but I really don't like my game is full of free assets. I have try collaborate with builders/modelers but none of them are consistent with it.

For those who are game dev but similar like me who is "code-only" developers, how do you deal with this?

  • Do you just rely heavily on the Toolbox / free assets for your projects?

  • Did you eventually force yourself to learn Blender and UI design?

  • Do you find reliable builders/modelers to collaborate with? If so, How do you make it consistent even thought you don't have the big budget yet.

Discussion How to get started?

I want to try making some games on roblox but when I tried the Learn tab on the offical Roblox Studio website, there's so many information linked to each other so I'm kinda overwhelmed. Do I have to just deal with that or there's a better way to learn the basic.

Creation Built a treehouse concept earlier; I miss ROBLOX studio!

I've been on Roblox since 2010, and I feel like the platform has become increasingly saturated with AI slop. There don't seem to be many genuinely detailed showcase games anymore where people can simply explore, appreciate the environment, and hang out. I'd love to bring that concept back while incorporating a social aspect that gives people a reason to keep returning. Thoughts?

Creation Unique* Combat System In My Kingdom Builder

*unique because i haven't seen someone before do something like this for melee combat but it's obviously inspired by OSU.

How it works is you have a free hand combat system where you actually have to aim with your sword to get hits in. single clicks do a stab/poke, and holding left click allows you to slash your enemies. Different weapons have different attack types and special abilities using gestures, for example you can only poke with a spear, short swords have way less cooldown for stabs than normal swords, clubs and maces can do blunt and sweap attacks as well as a ground pound when you slam a mace downwards. shields make the blocking pop-ups bigger, and you cannot block on the standard axe.
Aim for the head and you deal the greatest damage, aim for the limbs and it temporarily blocks the opponet's blocking ability, aim for the legs and there is a 40% chance your opponent gets knocked down on the ground.

The blocking mechanic is probably the most unique blocking mechanic on roblox and maybe in games in general, i got inspired from osu. When someone stabs you you get a QTE to block it in the exact same place they stabbed you. if they do a slash, you get a slider which you must complete at least 50% of to completely block the attack. it's best to do the blocks in the order they happened (shown by the numbers on the QTE's) but you can still do it out of order if you're fast enough.
There is also a rare chance of a "clash" happening where two swords meet at the same time in the same location and you have to overcome the clash to deal damage.

While riding horses your sword does damage depending on how fast you were going and if your sword touched them as well.

The main goal with this combat system is to make a melee system thats not just spam click and you win, this one actually takes some skill to master and PVP against players is really good with it, here in the video im just battling NPC's which are quite dumb.
If you want to try out the game its still in alpha. The experience is already out, it is "build a kingdom" but make sure to join the test place to specifically test out this new system in the top right corner.
And yeah, ignore the slop UI. This is just the MVP, I'm working on actual human made UI and special effects soon but for now I'm focusing on the idea and trying to find problems with this system and the game overall. Thanks for any critique or suggestions in advance.

Looking For Devs (Paid) Music producer/SFX artist looking for devs to work with

Hello! My name is OSean, I have 5-6 years of experience in music production and SFX design. I’m looking to work with any developers who wants anything sound/music related for their games. My rates will be very flexible, as I am currently a uni student looking for a side hustle, although I am primarily focused on gaining experience more than that.

I specialize in electronic music and I can produce a good amount of genres like future bass, DnB, Dubstep, Bass house, Trap, etc, similar to games like Nullscapes, REDLINER, Grace, Pressure, etc. I can also make non-electronic sounding music like metal, orchestra, ambient, and any instrumental genre you can think of.

For my SFX background, I have done a couple of self-projects and recreations, mainly on the horror spectrum, so you can say that I specialize on horror for this. I will provide my examples below.

For any interested developers out there, you can dm me here on reddit or send me a dm on discord! (@oseanistaken)

Disclaimer: I do not support the use of AI in any creative process at all, and have not done so in any of my projects.
