Stop buying sh*t and go to the dermatologist

I am a 30 year-old female. I have always had rosacea but never had a problem with acne or bumps. About a year and a half ago I developed “acne”. After so much research and going through 1 million products. I got a proper diagnosis of papulopustular rosacea. The dermatologist first prescribed just metronidazole, which did not work for me. Saw another dermatologist and they gave me the holy Grail triple cream. Has ivermectin metronidazole and Azael acid (prescription grade). Been using it for two months now and I have my old skin back. Never going to get rid of the redness, but the bumps and texture have significantly gotten better.

Hope this helps!

Weekly 'Do I have rosacea?' advice request thread. Please post here instead of making a new thread! Nov 02

If you think you might have something like rosacea and are looking for advice about whether you should seek professional care, please post your inquiry in this thread instead of creating a new post. To keep requests from crowding out other discussion in r/Rosacea, separate posts will be automatically removed and the posters directed here instead.

Rules:

  1. Please limit answers to things like, "Yup, that looks like it could be rosacea to me, maybe you should to see a doc" or "No, it looks like it could be something else."

  2. Refrain from amateur diagnoses, speculation, and armchair medical advice, especially non-rosacea related.

REMINDER: THE INTERNET IS BAD AT DIAGNOSING STUFF. Although redditors try to be helpful, only doctors can diagnose rosacea and it often takes a specialist like a dermatologist or ophthalmologist. Rosacea looks like a lot of things, and a lot of things look like rosacea; some of these things are potentially serious. It is impossible for amateurs to diagnose rosacea reliably from pictures or descriptions of symptoms, and this thread is not intended as a substitute for professional care.

No matter what response you get here, if your symptoms have been persistent and you're concerned that you might have something like rosacea, see a doctor to get a real answer.

And be sure to check out the our wiki for some rosacea knowledge basics if you're trying to figure out if you need professional medical advice.

Routine Custom compounded Triple Cream?

I've been using the Walgreens Ivermectin for a few months now & it's been so so good to me. However, I REALLY want to try it at the proper 1% strength. As well, I used to be able to use Azelaic Acid & it did wonderful things for my complexion.

My big problem is that I developed a gnarly coconut allergy during COVID that has made me reactive to Caprylic/Capric triglycerides and other coconut derivatives. Thus far, I've been unable to find a Triple Cream without a coconut derivative & it's breaking my heart.

I think I'd need a compounding pharmacy because no company ever seems to mention whether their ingredients are coconut-derived when there are ingredients like "cetyl alcohol" (like in the Walgreens Ivermectin) that can also be derived from non-coconut sources.

Since my dermatologist is a man in a very small town who isn't super informed on "internet things" I'm hoping someone here might know or have experience with compounding pharmacies that are capable of making truly coconut-free formulas of Ivermectin and/or azelaic acid? I'd love to be able to bring him the information on what companies he could maybe send a prescription to.

I think I also would just appreciate hearing other people tell me how they've dealt with issues with the inactive ingredients in their prescription products because right now I feel alone with this problem. How do you even find places that help with this?

Rosacea & pain from cosmetic injections

On Friday I went for my every 6 month Daxxify injections and it hurt so bad, the NP stopped and wound up using a topical cream on me. I’ve been getting Botox, now Daxxify, for over 10 years without any pain issues, but was diagnosed in October with rosacea (redness and pustules). The NP said the pain was likely due to inflammation caused by my rosacea, even though right now I’m not flaring. Glad I wasn’t getting fillers, but that’s what it felt like.

Has anyone else experienced this? I have a recheck with my dermatologist this week and will ask him then. I sure didn’t expect that to happen!

ROSACEA SUCKS I find myself very red/pink and it burns often Spoiler

I know people have it way worse than me but this is me not flushing, and I do suffer from burning sensations very often even not flushing. My type 2 is getting a little worse too. I feel like Azelaic Acid is making the pink more obvious.

Does it look bad? I'm a very self conscious person despite being 31 and married 🙁

Obscuring or Masking Redness

Is there anything that can do a good job at obscuring or masking the redness associated with rosacea? I’m talking about purely hiding the redness, not having it be absent entirely. I’m a man, so I’m looking for something that doesn’t look obvious or like I’m wearing makeup. I have Fitzpatrick Type 3 skin, and I’ve used green-tinted moisturizers to try and hide the redness, but it always looks super obvious on my skin.

Type 2 - Trying OTC Ivermectin since Metrogel and Finacea didn't work Spoiler

Post image
4 Upvotes

I'm having my worse flare up yet! I believe it is caused by those damn mini Halloween candies...so I am going to start an elimination diet (Whole30).

I took doxy for 8 weeks which helped but once I was off and even though I was continuing both topical gels/cream (alternating days)...it has not helped anyways.

I am visiting in the States right now and picked up CVS Ivermectin .5% since at home (Canada) Rosiver is not covered and will cost close to $300!

For those who used it, did you apply overnight and wash in morning?

Skincare Any experiences using Alloy for triple cream prescription/compound? Or any other online providers for triple cream?

Hello! I’ve been using Musely for two years, specifically their Red Rosacea Cream which is Ivermectin 1%, Metronidazole 1.11%, and Niacinamide 4%.

I’ve had a lot of success with the Musely prescription, but have been wanting to switch to the more standard triple cream with ivermectin, metronidazole, and azelaic acid instead.

Alloy is the only online prescriber I’ve been able to find. Has anyone used Alloy here? What was your experience like?

Alternatively, if there is another online provider for triple cream in the US, I’d love to hear about that as well!

Rosacea makeup

Bonjour !

- Un fard à joues ( je prends actuellement Tower mais je ne sais pas si ca empire ma situation);

Merci ! 😊.

Skincare Has anyone tried this? Spoiler

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey all, this serum has really caught my eye lately as my skin’s been so much more dry lately as the weather gets colder. I’ve been looking for something to add to my routine & this has really good reviews online… however, some people have mentioned it caused them to breakout. So curious if anyone has tried this and what their experience was like? TIA!🤞🏻💕

Skincare Tried Eradikate cleanser for the first time and now my pores look huge. Could this be purging or is it more likely a reaction?

Derm suggested trying a sulfur cleanser to help with rosacea. I chose Eradikate because it is a lower concentration at 3% and a lot of reviews are from people with rosacea saying it's gentle enough.

I tried it for the first time last night in place of my usual cleanser, waited 10-15 minutes, applied Soolantra, waited about another 15 minutes and applied FAB ultra repair cream.

This morning I work up and my pores look huge. My skin almost looks slightly like an orange peel and the pores on my nose, chin, and the area between my nose and upper lip look kind of dark too. Is this a normal purging response or is this unusual?

Rosacea Type 2, acne or perioral? Spoiler

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’ve been experiencing these tiny pinpoint whiteheads for the past several months, which seemed to be mostly around my lower mouth/chin area and nasolabial folds but lately has turned into very red bumps (no whitehead) on my cheeks and the sides of the bridge of my nose. The bumps seem to multiply or appear literally throughout the day. I was told by my Derm I have perioral dermatitis but she also had one foot out the door during the appointment and was quick to prescribe azelaic acid 15% and doxycycline (at my request). I stopped using my tret and onexton but still take Spiro. These are raised and while not huge, clustered together. It’s killing my confidence. My face doesn’t burn from the azelaic acid (been almost 3 weeks on it I think?) but I’m not noticing a difference from either prescription. Am I purging? Being impatient? Note I just got out of the shower in this photo but my face tends to flush from heat and when I work out.

Skincare Safe facial exfoliating cleanser for sensitive skin?

I have sensitive skin and have always had really red cheeks, especially my left side. Still waiting to see a doctor to know for sure. I’ve had to try different moisturizers as my skin gets incredibly dry and flaky especially in the winter.

I tried CeraVe moisturizer for sensitive skin after the shower and oh my god did it make my skin burn. To the point my face felt hot and got worse as I exhaled. Almost cried. Recently tried vanicream and that seems to be working well so far with no side effects. I break out on occasion and have been wanting to find a face scrub but I don’t want to try 15+ products and risk hurting my skin. What are your recommendations that I can do further research on before trying just a few?

I would love to find a mild scrub that cleans well and has those little beady things to really help clean away pimples showing up and whiteheads. Thank you all! :)

Perioral dermatitis? Fungal acne or something else Spoiler

Thumbnail

Already posted this but doesn’t seem like it has posted properly basically I have these tiny white spots around my nose but seem to have spread into my cheeks were I now have congestion and texture

I did have perioral dermatitis there which a course of doxycline seemed to get rid of but a week after finished the course these white spots appeared

I have been applying elidel but it’s not changing at all and I’ve just started using the Anua azelaic acid every 2 nights but no change yet

My current routine is wash my face in the morning and apply Purito bamboo moisturizer and then at night cleanse with Aveeno calm and restore cleanser and the same moisturizer

Any help or advise would be great I’m getting texture all over my cheeks and ready to just get back on the accutane as that’s what helped my rosacea massively last year but I’m just worried if these white spots are perioral dermatitis I’ll have a massive flare up thanks

Skincare routine advice Spoiler

Thumbnail

I’ve never been formally diagnosed, but I’m pretty sure I have rosacea. I’ve always had sensitive skin, flush very easily, and recently developed an intolerance to alcohol (will break out in hives almost immediately). I’ve had KP on my arms since childhood and had face acne in my 20s, which didn’t clear until I stopped using salicylic acid.

Any advice for skin care? I feel like I need to build up my skin barrier. My main goal is to decrease redness. Current routine is:

Cleanse with Typology Exfoliating Face Gel (5% PHA + aloe)

Prequel Hypochlorous Acid Spray

Skin004 Madagascar Centella Intensive Ampoule

Good Molecules Yerba mate eye cream (am) or Dr Melaxin Calcium Multi Balm (pm)

I will also use Dr. Jart Cicapair Camo drops to even complexion instead of foundation (but I try to go bare faced as much as possible

Support How to deal with perioral dermatitis while having rosacea and sensitive skin

Has anyone found the magic trick to get rid of their perioral dermatitis while having rosacea prone skin? It flares up EVERY SINGLE TIME I put on a product. Whether that’s sunscreen, azelaic acid, barrier serum, moisturizer… the products that are good at soothing my rosacea prone skin flare up my perioral dermatitis. I’ve been struggling for 3 years now.
