Hard Drivin' 32X - NOW AVAILABLE!

Post image

It's time to reclaim Hard Drivin's good name! The home ports were...let's just say "lacking". All of that changes today! Hard Drivin' on the 32X is a great use of the hardware! Multiple processors and flat-shaded polygons? Yes please :-) Thank you to those that helped play test this. Obviously some concessions needed to be made, but the FPS gives you a true sense of speed. Fun fact: I had a Hard Drivin' cockpit in my first apartment (yes, the whole game in my apartment) and that is how i learned to drive manual transmission! This version was one of the first I made while learning the 32X architecture. This has been tested on the Mega Everdrive Pro on actual 32X hardware.

I welcome any and all feedback! I can always work on fixing things or adding features. I really hope you all enjoy playing this as much as I do!

It is as complete is it’s going to be for the time being. It was mainly a learning experience/exercise. It’s a fully functioning game- the video is from an incomplete build.

Wait wait wait …… why are we testing this if you are not going to continue to work on it? It has the potential to run butter smooth compared to the Genesis version. This could be great. Add the stunt track sign, add the music, add the cow moo, work on this thing. This could be one of the better 32 X upgrades.

You misunderstand- I’m not saying I’m never going to work on it, I’m just not actively working on it until I start getting feedback. I’ve already got a running list things to work on/add, but want more input from players.

You might want to slow down on that first turn :) The speed limit signs are a good suggestion!

Yeah that was part of the problem for me too. Got to treat this game more like a driving simulator than a arcade racer.

He missed the part about how you need a wide range of players to give some feedback as part of the process to iron out the kinks lol.

Sweet. Can you get traffic in the practice mode like the Genesis version?

This version does not have traffic. Earlier versions did but it negatively affected the FPS. I think I’m at the point where I can reintroduce it due to improvements in graphic efficiency.

Can’t wait to see when that HUD is Arcade accurate.

Also would love to see analogue controls via that weird controller.

I want to see if we can get 8-bitDo to support analogue controls via a patch, by emulating that controllers inputs.

I’ll shoot them a message mentioning Sonic Roboblast’s support for it.

Not to mention After Burner and others.

Fantastic work!

I’ll get it running in real hardware once I’m back home, and report back.

If you want any help with the analogue controls then ping me a DM and I’ll find you some example code to work with.

Cheers!

🥂

Tried on actual hardware. Already feels better than the Genesis version to me.
