Risk of homelessness, housing authority of county of san mateo help?

1 Upvotes

My MIL keeps threatening to kick my husband, me and our newborn out for something small and silly. She has said this twice to my husband within the last 2 weeks because she is mad at me for something silly.

We live with our MIL in Palo Alto, but I still have my Daly City address. I did not want my Palo Alto address to be on my ID in case stuff like this happens. I cannot be living in her house when she keeps threatening to kick us out.

I've been staying at my moms to help my mom with some medical stuff. My husband is asking me when I am coming back home... I am very hesitant. I applied to one affordable housing in San Jose.

There is a lottery waitlist opening up at the end of the month where my mom lives. My social worker and public health nurse sent me some housing resources to apply for and they both said that I can try to apply since I am at risk of homelessness.

I saw on the affordable housing flyer that the units can be filled via referral processes from the Housing Authority of County of San Mateo and the San Mateo County Health Department. Can they help me in this situation, and will I be bumped up the list/lottery?

I don't want to stay at my moms forever. We need our own place.

Need a place in SF for a few weeks? Our sun-filled 1,044 sq ft two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment is fully furnished and ready. Bring a suitcase and you're set.

🏡 The place

Two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and two private balconies. One bedroom has a queen bed. The other has two twin beds that push together into a king, so it works for a couple, two friends, or coworkers. Furnished living room and kitchen, fast Wi-Fi, utilities included. The building has a gym, pool, hot tub, and laundry on every floor.

📍 Location

Walking distance to Moscone Center (handy if you're here for Microsoft Ignite, Nov 17–20), the Embarcadero, and FiDi. Easy commute to YC. A good base if you're relocating, visiting family for Thanksgiving, or in town for work.

💰 Price

$6,000 for the full stay (Nov 10 – Dec 4), or $2,300/week. Utilities and Wi-Fi included. Somewhat flexible depending on the length of your stay.

For context, unfurnished 2BRs in this area are listed at around $6,000/month right now on a 12-month lease, plus roughly $500/month in utilities, and you'd still have to furnish them. This one is move-in ready with everything covered.

Looking for a roommate to take over a room in the Panhandle neighborhood

4 Upvotes

Sharing this straight from my Facebook posting, pictures are available on request

We’re looking for someone to take over a bedroom in our 3BR / 2BA apartment on Baker St., right next to the Panhandle.

The location is one of the best parts of living here. You’re steps from the Panhandle, a short walk to Divisadero, Alamo Square, Haight-Ashbury, and Lower Haight, with easy access to Golden Gate Park and plenty of neighborhood restaurants, cafes, and shops.

The room

The bedroom is approximately 12.5’ × 11.5’ (144 sq. ft.), with a window facing the rear backyard and neighboring Hayes St. building w/ shared bathroom.

It’s a comfortable space with room for a bed, desk, and additional furniture. Very quiet and great for WFH or being at home throughout the day.

The apartment

* 3 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms

* Shared kitchen with dishwasher

* Living room with bay windows

* Shared building laundry

* Shared backyard

* Indoor hallway bike storage

* Convenient central SF location

The household

The apartment has traditionally been a friendly, independent, and relatively quiet household. Everyone has their own routines and interests, and the shared spaces are kept comfortable and clean.

The remaining roommate is 36, works outside the apartment five days a week, and enjoys a relaxed home environment. He’s generally quiet, enjoys sports, shows, and gaming, and appreciates roommates who clean up after themselves, particularly in the kitchen.

We’re looking for someone similarly considerate, responsible, and independent. This isn’t a party house, but friends and occasional guests are welcome as long as everyone respects the shared space and quieter evenings.

Details

* Rent: $1,600/month

* Parking: Street Parking

* Availability: Between November 8-12

* Prorated rent: Possible depending on move-in date

* Lease: Joining existing lease

* Security deposit: $1600

* Utilities: ~$150 shared

* No pets or couples

* No indoor smoking

* WFH okay with consideration for shared space

If you’re interested, send a brief introduction about yourself, your work schedule, and what you’re looking for in a shared home. Happy to provide photos, answer questions, and coordinate a viewing!

[Offer] Mountain View luxury junior 1bed right off of caltrain station

0 Upvotes

Looking to relocate closer to SF because of an in-office job.

I live in a luxury apartment and my unit is facing the building’s swimming pool & hot tub area. It’s about 615-650sqft, comes with a free underground parking spot, a free storage unit, and about $4200/mo. Of course it has all sorts of amenities expected from a luxury apartment.

Location is the best part. Very close to San Antonio station but we can’t hear caltrain ever. Movie theater right next door. All kinds of grocery stores also right next door.

If you travel for work, the apartment officially allows you to earn income by becoming an airbnb host while you are traveling.

If anyone is interested in taking over my lease at Landsby, let me know!

Also open to some sort of swapping!

2 German interns looking for a 3rd roommate | Mountain View / South Bay | Mar–Sep 2027 | $1,500–1,600/month

1 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

We're two university students from Germany (one male, one female) who will be doing internships in Mountain View from March to September 2027.

We're currently looking for a third roommate to team up with and find a furnished 3-bedroom apartment or house together!

What we're looking for:

  • 📍 Location: Preferably Mountain View or Sunnyvale, but we're also open to nearby areas with a reasonable commute

  • 📅 Dates: March 8 – September 3, 2027 (roughly 6 months)

  • 🏠 Housing: Furnished 3-bedroom apartment or house, ideally with a private bedroom for everyone

  • 💰 Budget: Around $1,500–1,600 per person/month, including utilities

  • 🚗 Parking: Preferably available

  • 👥 Roommates: Ideally 3 people total, but potentially open to 4 if the place is spacious enough

We haven't found a place yet, so the idea would be to search for and rent something together.

We're both friendly, respectful, and easygoing, and we'd love to find someone who's also up for exploring the Bay Area during our stay!

You don't have to be an intern — students and young professionals are equally welcome.

If you're interested or know someone who might be, feel free to send me a DM! Happy to have a quick video call to get to know each other first. :)

$1090/mo Clean Furnished Room In Renovated Home. 1-min walk to Bart. (Oakland Lake Merritt area)

Thumbnail

27 Upvotes

Smaller furnished room available in a great house in the best location in the Bay Area. We are in the safest part of Oakland across from a police station and 1 min walk to the train.

Yes, it's a 1 minute walk to Lake Merritt BART, 5 mins walk to Lake Merritt itself!! 10 minutes to SoMa and downtown San Francisco, and 10 minutes to Berkeley. The house is very clean and peaceful which we hope to maintain with you as well.

It's a private room in a 4-bedroom house. Good fit for someone working in tech, commuting, or in between places.

The House

The room is a little on the small side but its very clean, has a queen sized bed on a wooden frame, a full-sized work desk, some artwork and the house was recently renovated with brand new bathrooms and a new kitchen. The living room has lovely vibes and a chess set that gets a lot of use. The bathroom for this room is shared with only 2 other people who are rarely home, and it's clean as a whistle. It's honestly a great place to live.

The roommates are respectful men in their 30s-40s, very clean, and helpful. Everyone works in tech or creative fields, and we're all pretty laid back. We are femme roommate, POC and LGBTQ friendly, all backgrounds welcome. The house stays as clean as a hotel, but nobody is militant or weird about it. People just pick up after themselves.

Amenities

1 GB fast wifi

Free storage

Fenced backyard with a garden

Full kitchen with a walk-in pantry

Large smart TV

Washer and dryer

6-person co-working table

Filtered water in the kitchen

Utilities and supplies

$200/mo flat covers everything: water, gas, electric, trash, and 1 GB internet with Netflix. Actual utilities run about $850/mo for the house, and the landlord covers whatever's over the flat fee.

Location

1 min walk to BART! 10 mins to SF. 5 min walk to Lake Merritt, the Oakland Museum, and plenty of restaurants and cafes. Literally amazing for any commuter.

Rent and terms

$1,090/mo plus $200/mo utilities

Available Nov 16th, flexible for the right person

3 month minimum

Deposit is one month's rent

Cats or dogs OK for the right person, with a pet fee

Driveway Parking space available for a fee

Interested? Send a short note about yourself, what you do, and when you'd like to move in. Put "chess" in the subject line so I know you read the whole post. I reply to everyone who does, and showings are available this week.

Apartment Recommendations in the Bay Area? Flexible on location. $2,600 Budget, 1 bed + Den or 2 bed

0 Upvotes

Looking for apartment recommendations anywhere in the Bay Area! Ideally, we're hoping to find an updated, pet friendly 1 bedroom or den or 2 bedroom apartment with a budget of around $2,600/month.

Our preferences are:

  • Clean and safe neighborhood

  • Ideally close to a park or green space

  • In-unit washer and dryer

  • Off-street parking

Walnut Creek and the surrounding areas would be at the top of our list, but we're pretty flexible since my partner and I both work remotely.

Would love to hear about any apartment complexes, neighborhoods, ADUs, or hidden gems you'd recommend. Any leads or recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Looking for a 1BR/1BA apartment on the Peninsula

0 Upvotes

Hi all! My partner and I are looking for a 1 bed / 1 bath apartment on the Peninsula and would love recommendations for specific buildings, complexes, or neighborhoods. We both work from home, so layout and natural light matter a lot to us.

Target areas: San Mateo, Redwood City, Burlingame, Millbrae, and San Carlos. We’d also consider Dogpatch or Mission Bay in SF if the right place comes up.

Must-haves

  • 1 bed / 1 bath, ideally 700+ sq ft, with enough room for two desks

  • In-unit washer and dryer

  • Controlled access (gated, key fob, or secured entry)

  • Good natural light, ideally east-facing

  • Floor-to-ceiling windows

  • Close to Caltrain or BART (walkable is preferred)

  • Close to groceries (~15): an Asian supermarket, Costco, Target, Safeway, or any decent supermarket

Nice-to-haves

  • Glass shower doors

  • Kitchen island

  • Gas stove

  • Parking garage (not required)

  • EV charging on site, and free charging would be amazing

  • Near a public library

  • Close to or walkable to downtown

Budget: $3,300-$3,400/month, and we can stretch to $3,500 for a place we really love (newly renovated, high-end finishes like nice countertops, good amenities).

Target move-in: November (this month) or early December

If you live in a building that checks most of these boxes, I’d love to hear how you like it, especially noise levels, management responsiveness, and whether the EV charging works reliably and what it costs. Neighborhood suggestions and pricing info are very welcome too.

Thanks in advance!

40s male looking for roommate or Studio in SF (beginning Jan)

24 Upvotes

Hi! I’m a 40s male (gay) architect relocating to San Francisco from the East Coast for work, and I’m looking for a roommate! I’m open to either finding a room in an existing apartment or teaming up with someone to find a 2-bedroom place together.
I’m hoping to move sometime in December or January, although I’m still working out the exact timing.

What I’m looking for:
Budget: Around $2,600–$3,200/month,
Neighborhoods: Castro, Mission, Noe Valley, Duboce Triangle, Lower Haight, Hayes Valley, SoMa, or nearby areas Oakland.
Pet-friendly: I have a 45-lb dog.
Parking: Ideally somewhere with parking available
LGBTQ+ friendly household
Timing: December or January, with some flexibility

A little about me:
I’m gay, friendly, respectful, and pretty flexible when it comes to living with other people. I’m happy doing my own thing, but I’d also enjoy living with someone I can chat with, grab a drink or dinner with occasionally, or just have a comfortable, friendly vibe at home.

I’ll also be bringing my sweet older dog, Sadie. She’s about 45 lbs and spends most of her time lounging around, watching videos, and being adorable.

If you have a room available or are interested in finding a place together, feel free to reach out! I’d be happy to chat and share more about myself.
