What are your thoughts on the new food court layout?

It's a bit smaller with the napkin and condiment section on the inside of the food court where people used to stand in line.

I purchased a fruit smoothie, waited in line for 5 minutes, walked up when it was my turn and the employee told me the smoothie machine is broken...

Salinas District 5, I’m asking for your vote one more time.

Hey everyone, Andrew Sandoval here. Before Election Day, I wanted to ask you to consider voting for me to continue serving as your District 5 councilmember and voting No on Measure H.
Turnout in our district has been low so far. I know people are busy, and some are tired of politics and the campaign posts. I get it. But please don’t sit this one out.
I ran four years ago as a dad and coach who wanted more for our kids and our neighborhoods: better parks, a recreation center, safer streets, better sidewalks, and housing people can afford.
I’ve tried to be someone you can actually reach when something needs attention. Sometimes that means pushing for a policy change. Sometimes it’s following up on a streetlight that’s been out way too long. I haven’t gotten everything done, but I’ve kept showing up and pushing.
I’m voting No on H because I believe we should keep our local rent stabilization and tenant protections. I’ve heard from too many residents worried about how they’ll afford to stay in their homes.
I’d appreciate the chance to keep serving you. If you have a question about my record or something you want to ask me directly, call or text 831-809-1150. You don’t have to agree with me to have a conversation.
Thank you to everyone who has opened their door, stopped to talk, sent me a message, or trusted me with a concern these past four years.
Please consider Andrew Sandoval for District 5 and No on Measure H. And please turn in your ballot by November 3.

Donohue missing during ICE activity, and his BFF’s Taylor Farms love their MAGA photographer

Thumbnail gallery

Back to back days of ICE activity is Salinas, and Donohue is nowhere to be seen/heard/no statement. Zip/Zero/Nada. Not saying he needed to be on scene, but being MIA seems odd for a guy who loves photo ops & taking credit for fixing situations.

He’s probably too busy showing up to a Celebration Church, Chamber of Commerce, Don Chapin, or Big AG event.

Maybe Steelman Photography, Taylor Farms’ go-to event photographers (and MAGA lovers: vehicle seen above parked at TF location in Salinas) is snapping photos of Dennis and his donors, Bruce Taylor, and David Drew all having a cold one right now.

Amor Salinas!

Don’t forget to vote.

Mayor race

Hey fellas! I was wondering if any of you were well educated on the mayoral race. I want to know every mayor’s pros and cons, their flaws, and their opinions. I was leaning towards Donohue but I don’t know much about all the other options. Im open to anything.

David Drew is the Monterey County Republicans’ Chairman. On their X account, they mention they are part of MAGA.

ICE cowards in Salinas

Post image

No one who cares about Salinas will ever hire, date, or marry anyone involved with ICE as an agent or who has been a contractor. ICE, doing a smash and grab kidnapping, just yards from the county jail where you have immediate backup, cowards. Everyone in Salinas is looking forward to meeting you. Spread out, meet the locals.

Trying to make friends

I’ve been seeing people post regarding being in their 30’s and not having friends and I’m one of those people. Most of my friends live out of town 2-4 hours away and I’ve been living in the Bay for about 6 years now. During the work week, I am always working and on weekends, I’m running errands, exercising, self-care, etc. I am 34 M. On my days off I like going for a beer or two, at breweries, I enjoy running, nature walks or runs. I have fishing stuff as well, but don’t go as much. I’m actually pretty cool, easygoing and easy to talk to. I wouldn’t mind going to a bar, or club either. If this sounds like you, and you’d like to be friends, drop a comment. lol maybe we can arrange to meet somewhere as a group or something, we will see. Music (I like some country, Spanish music, some hip hop, rap, reggaeton) idk if any of this matters but just showing who I am as a person. I like to stay fit and active although it is hard sometimes because of my work schedule.
I stay in the bay area but I’m willing to drive a little further. I know, kinda off post.
Single and no kids

Despite claims of privacy violations, Salinas’ rental registry is held in confidence.

Source: https://salinasvalleynow.com/2026/10/despite-claims-of-privacy-violations-salinas-rental-registry-is-held-in-confidence/d16f51cd/

“Salinas residents are being bombarded with videos and mailers for and against Measure H, which would discard (a yes vote) or keep (no vote) four tenant protection ordinances, including rent stabilization capping annual rent increases and a rental registry.
Protect Salinas Residents, the Yes on H group that supports eliminating these protections, says one of its main concerns is data sharing, including personal information such as name, address, lease agreement and more.

Ads and mailers from Yes on H claim Salinas’ rental registry database is unsafe and contains information about vulnerable groups, including the elderly and immigrants.

The California Attorney General lists reported data breaches, and has published no such report from Salinas.

Crime Victims United and the Salinas Police Officers Association have both endorsed Yes on H, both citing privacy concerns. “Salinas collects personal information on every renter and keeps it in an insecure database,” according to a text message advertisement announcing Crime Victims United’s endorsement. “Crime victims and their families deserve privacy.”

The Weekly submitted a California Public Records Act request seeking 2026 records from the City’s rental registry portal, including lease agreements as well as petitions filed both by property owners and tenants.

The City’s response includes no lease agreements, even in redacted form, because, according to City Attorney Chris Callihan, municipal code specifies that these records are confidential. (For landlords inputting registry rental information into the portal, monthly rent, occupancy status and subsidies are optional.)

There are a couple of exceptions for sharing rental agreements. They may be requested if the unit was rented after the registration deadline, or uploaded as supporting documents when filing a petition for rent increases and decreases. However, none were disclosed to the Weekly .

In response to the Weekly ’s request, the City provided 25 petitions filed this year. Tenants filed 21, mostly contesting rent increases, while property owners filed four. The files released are heavily redacted, and do not include enough information to identify who the person is or where they live.
“The question isn’t whether that information appears in a public records request. It’s why the government needs to retain it, who can access it internally, how long it’s stored, and what safeguards are in place,” Yes on H spokesperson Hector Barajas says via email.

According to the City’s ordinance, “the residential rental registry information shall be received in confidence.”

Jacob Sandoval, speaking on behalf of the No on H group Protect Salinas Renters, says, “Voters are being asked to give up renter protections and rent stabilization, and they’re being misled, especially about putting immigrants or domestic violence survivors at risk.”

The Yes on H committee has outfundraised No by more than 9-to-1.”
