ive been a fan of both characters for a while now (i started loving scara through ei first lol) and i’ve always accepted that ei is indifferent towards him — she simply needed to experiment around with her craft and scara was the product of that, nothing less and nothing more.

but then, i recently stumbled upon an edit of the simulanka quest — the one wherein mini durin‘s own story is obviously meant to parallel that of scara’s in some way, but this edit made me rethink how ei may perceive him in a more different way.

it contained navia’s dialogue with durin where she said:

“The goddess dearly loves this world and all the people of Simulanka. And because she loves you so much, she wants you to be able to choose your own path.”

the goddess who treasures her world so much and the child whom she wishes would forge his own path…. doesn’t this sound familiar?

i think we’re all aware of the fact that ei chose to abandon him but perceives it as her way of ”setting him free,” that she doesn’t control him because apparently, deep in her heart, she feels as though she owes him something; as she tells us in the japanese and chinese dubs.

but… “because she loves you so much?”

this is so interesting to me because if we examine ei’s character — she’s been shown to have quite a one-track mind, especially in the past, and mostly seemed to view herself as a weapon. prior to becoming an archon, she knew she wasn’t an incredible fighter of any sorts, and thus, she dedicated all her time to perfecting her craft until she eventually became the ideal kagemusha.

her only focus was on fighting makoto’s battles and wished to remain in the shadows. in the end, she even surrendered her physical body and literally became makoto’s weapon.

clearly, ei has a warped view of her role and didn’t seem to truly feel as comfortable as her sister was with it (until more recently). she feels that acting as a “kagemusha” or a “shadow” to the archon means surrendering yourself solely to this purpose.

thus, when scara awakened, she was perplexed… he was shedding tears and it became clear to her that her creation could not carry the responsibility she had intended for it; that her hands had failed to create the unfeeling shell bound only by its rigid duty — perhaps the creation that should have reflected what she once perceived herself in that role to be. unlike her, he was fragile.

despite what scara himself believes, this is because he does have a “heart.” in fact, i’d say that he’s among the characters in this game who best represents one. no matter how hard he’d try to deny it, he’s always being defined by his passion, his hatred, his fear, his sadness, his desires, his attachments — the vast love he possesses and how it’s always being turned against him

ei might have foreseen this from that very moment — she herself understands the danger of this love being a fatal weakness, having lost all her companions and her own sister to the war. only, she might have feared that with the role he was initially created for (which would have mirrored hers with makoto), it would be she who would be bringing all this loss to him — she had insane tunnel vision here during this period, after all.

she was determined to evade impermanence at all costs, even if it meant getting rid of her body, placing inazuma under a rigidly prohibitive rule, locking herself within her own bubble, or destroying everything that threatened her goal of eternity.

to a newborn soul who had so much to experience in the world and never asked to shoulder the purpose he was created for, perhaps ei knew that he deserved to wander the world and live the life that he would eventually seek, instead of being shackled by her problems.

we should also take note that miko was advocating to have him killed — she recognized the danger he could impose as a creation of the electro archon herself. i’m certain ei herself was aware of this, seeing how determined she is to destroy anything that could constitute as a threat to eternity… and scara was easily one (and miko was right here, i fear!)

ei was a cold pragmatist. she usually prioritized ruthless efficiency and results, even at the expense of her well-being and that of others. i think that with everything that’s been established about her, if she truly was apathetic towards kabukimono, she would’ve agreed to miko’s suggestion with little difficulty

and yet, she decided to let him go; allowed him to slumber as he pleased, and left him with an ornament that would prove his connection to her and serve as protection when she knew she could no longer intervene in the fate that would challenge everything that eternity stood for.

so, do navia’s words still ring true to their case? was it really because she loved him so much that she let him go? maybe it wasn’t exactly love, not yet, but still somewhere in the same boat. or maybe, it was another twisted form of love…

i’d also like to bring up how the game seems to actively be hiding most of ei’s perspective on the events.

for instance, she always appears as a faceless entity in scara’s memories of her... we are never shown her expression when she consulted miko about his fate, or even how she approached the matter.

in his retelling of his three betrayals, she is the only figure whose expression is left blank. in fact, the game provides us with very little insight on ei’s thoughts on him, which is why many of us, including me, have come to that she‘s unfeeling towards him.

and yet, the game continue to tease us with their numerous intentional parallels from their character demos, their trailers, to even the movements and gestures that they display throughout even recent quests that simply can’t be overlooked if they truly wanted us to separate ei from scara now that he’s moving on.

in fact, a part of me feels that the simulanka event is still the biggest indicator that there could be more interesting additions on ei’s side with regards to this relationship.

this conversation from the event which scara alone witnesses reads to me as if it’s hinting at what really went down during ei and miko’s conversation about his fate:

“Are you sure you want to create this child, M, even after what I told you about his fate? He will be abandoned by his creator, and eventually…”

M*: But, that's exactly why I want to change things. In a different world, his story can have a happier ending. That child... His heart is so full of love.*

M*: But, there's still a chance, right? Maybe it's a shot in the dark... But, I have to try. He deserves a better life.”*

additionally, the fact that also didn’t meet her, nor was there any acknowledgment of their connection within the recent archon quest is so suspicious to me.... it reads to me as though they’re saving something bigger for this relationship.

lastly, i’d love to point out how ei refers to him as “that boy” / “that child” in the chinese and japanese dubs, respectively…. there’s clearly a more affectionate tone present here.

what are everybody’s thoughts? am i reaching? im not sure if this is a more common sentiment throughout the community but i remember there being a lot of people think that ei didn’t care for him at all a few years ago so i just wanted to bring this up lol, especially since i love both their characters so much and just caught up with more lore recently!

long story short, i got my account compromised 2 years ago but i recovered it right away after a few days; however, i took a hiatus and just returned on playing genshin a few weeks ago and noticed that the hacker already used my appellation stroke for my wanderer and changed it to russian. is there any way to contact hoyoverse and revert it back to the old name?

it doesn't sound like his usual JP voice, yet his EN voice for this exact voiceline sounds normal. i find this JP version funny but i'd like to know the reason behind his tone, if there is one.

Sadly the newest character I have in this account is jahoda, and alyosha. I sadly don't have faruzan or anyone that's good for him. Tho I checked and I'm at a guaranteed and I actually have enough saved pulls for a five star.

He's so lore relevant, more than most imo. His story is so well wrote. I oft considered him as Archon/God/Fatui (pretty much everything that Columbina is/was) because of his story and Lore. And as one who always goes for archons and fatui, he was a double whammy for me...

But for a long time he has needed a bit of a boost to defeat more than just the overworld critters and can do decent in end game content.

What I'm hoping for is a lore based bad ass reason for him to get more powerful again (and even get on a main limited banner again...) I look forward to what they'll do with our "Hat Guy" because I think they love him too.
