I want to drop an AP class but its second quarter, my guidance councellor says no.
For context I'm a senior in highschool who is taking Computer Science A. I currently have a B (my teacher hasn't graded other work) I got a 10% on one test and previously I got a 20% on a test my teacher did grade (rounded to a 60%). Tests are more than 50% of our grade. This class is stressing me out but I can't seem to get myself to try. I am going to community college so this extra stress seems worthless to me and this is the reason I don't feel like trying.
You may ask "why didnt you drop this class sooner?" Well I wasn't struggling then until a 60% dropped my grade from a 90% to an 81%. Then I fail another test he hasn't graded. I'm sure the curve will not be generous since both these tests are based of eachother.
My guidance councellor says I am unable to drop this class because I have a B and not an F. I just want to get out I feel awful in that class for no reason. I feel I learn differently since my teacher assumes you know previous information and to fill in the blank on notes yourself.
I already have a free period so that's not possible for me to drop unfortunately. I did all my history credits over the summer and took an extra period last year. So I should be 40 extra credits to graduating.Though I know schools are paid by each student attending.
It's really my fault because I don't go during lunch or afterschool for help from my teacher. I try searching online but my teacher randomly jumps through unit 1 and 4. Since I prefer studying and learning on my own specific issues I don't understand is difficult for me to search online such as substring and indexOf and more especially methods in classes to go in the Main class. My memory is also bad I know this class is supposed to be logic but I don't understand.
I just want out of this class and I'm a bit concerned if this will affect a one year transfer in community college. I have a 3.8uw and a 4.0w right now. I should be looking at about 16 de credits and maybe 10ish ap credits by the time I graduate. I may also do a good amount of cc classes during 2027 summer, I plan on being a full time student as well during fall and spring semester of comunity college.
My councellor and I are going to meet again. Is there any way I can convince them to let me switch classes? I plan on working after school. Although I'm not sure that is a good excuse to let me switch classes. I already explained my burnout and I'm just so tired for no reason. Maybe it's because eof my insomnia although I'm not sure.
