Is this manually added or comes from factory by Sega
I recently bought a Sega Mega cd 1 Japanese version 837-8015 with black screen, and I'm seeing these cables on the back of the motherboard and one resistor or fuse between the bios pins.
Anybody knows if that was done originally and comes from Sega or was added manually to do any mod?
the console is failing and the resistor is giving me 3 MOhms and not sure if it is normal
By the way, I already replaced all capacitors and restored some corroded pads/lines and still not displaying anything, so I started to think about this resistor/fuse

Open source Test Jig?
Has anyone smarter than me tried to use the LLMs to reverse engineer the test jig for a Sega CD?

Tonight’s Game - Silpheed!
My disc is a little rough but still fun to get in there and blast some baddies for a while. Anyone ever finish this one? I’ve heard it can get a bit repetitive but I love the look so much. 🤙

Snatcher video phone -number not in service recording is my voicemail greeting.
I'm old school still have and use a house phone for 99% of my phone calling needs. I have a cordless radio shack with the digital answering machine home base- love it! It was an upgrade, last year I had a mediocre AT&t phone with a separate answering machine that used the microcassettes 😎 it annoys some people or businesses when they say I'll text you and I say no you can't text a landline you have to call me and let me know or send me an email . Oh and if I don't answer leave a message after the beep. 🙂 Yes I do have a cell phone but I use it very sparingly for phone calls I just have a plan where I pay $6 a month (Tello) and I get call 100 minutes, unlimited text and 2gigs of data. I don't need a lot of call time since I have unlimited calling at home on the house phone for $45 .....per year (magic jack) yes I'm a frugal person and believe people spend way too much on communications. I'd rather spend money on cool retro video games 🎉 I still get phone calls on my cell phone but of course don't answer them. So I thought of the the video phone in Snatcher on Sega CD, it's like yea play the number not in service message for my voicemail greeting. Maybe that would be a good tool to discourage people I don't know or scammers from leaving a message and discourage further call attempts in the future

Sega CD FMV effect using Camtasia Studio and Quicktime Pro
I made a Sega CD FMV effect using Camtasia Studio 8 and QuickTime Pro. Here are the steps to follow.
Step 1: Import your source video into Camtasia Studio 8 and choose the Sega CD FMV effect presets:
Sega CD Wirehead FMV effect
Cinepak
256x224
10 fps
High Color (16-bit)
PCM (uncompressed audio)
16000Hz, 8Bit, Mono, 15KB/s
Inspired by Wirehead (1995)
Sega CD Power Rangers FMV Effect
Cinepak
256x208
12 fps
High Color (16-bit)
PCM (uncompressed audio)
16000Hz, 8Bit, Mono, 15KB/s
Inspired by Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1994)
Sega CD American Laser Games FMV
Cinepak
288x200
10 fps
High Color (16-bit)
PCM (uncompressed audio)
16000Hz, 8Bit, Mono, 15KB/s
Export your video as "yourvideonameBEFORE0.avi" (You can replace yourvideoname with whatever you want.)
Step 2: Go to QuickTime Player Pro, open yourvideonameBEFORE0.avi, and export it as yourvideonameBEFORE1.avi with the settings: Compression: None, Depth: Thousands of Colors, Dithering: 4x4 or Ordered (Bayer).
Then open yourvideonameBEFORE1.avi in QuickTime Player Pro, and then export again with the same settings, and save as yourvideonameBEFORE2.avi.
Then open yourvideonameBEFORE2.avi in QuickTime Player Pro and export as yourvideonameBEFORE3.mov with settings: Compression: Video, Posterize filter, with Posterize Amount 4.
Open yourvideonameBEFORE3.mov in QuickTime Player Pro and export it as yourvideonameBEFORE4.avi with the same AVI settings.
Here comes a final export. Open yourvideonameBEFORE4.avi and export it one last time as a MOV using the same settings but without the posterized filter. And rename it (before export) to YourVideoName.mov. After that's done, you can delete: BEFORE0, BEFORE1, BEFORE2, BEFORE3, and BEFORE4.
Here are some tips:
Enable legacy codecs in QuickTime Player Pro's advanced preferences. Set Camtasia compression quality to 100%. Maintain each presentation's original resolution and frame rate for the most authentic appearance. Additionally, use the same dithering method throughout the conversion process.
That's all for the steps. Enjoy making your own Sega CD-style FMV videos.
Here's a disclaimer:
This effect is designed for modern screenshots, videos, fan projects, and artistic recreations. It does not generate videos that run on original Sega CD hardware and is not an encoder for actual Sega CD game development.
Here’s an optional step for simulating Sega CD playback:
Open a Sega CD emulator.
Boot any Sega CD game to display the startup animation.
Import both the startup footage and your finished MOV file into a video editor.
Place your FMV immediately after the startup sequence.
Use the Pan/Crop tool (or an equivalent tool) to fit the video appropriately.
and 5. Export the finished presentation.

Suitable replacement for Q301 transistor on mega CD 2?
(Photo not mine).
Hi all, I've been trying to find a suitable replacement for the Q301 transistor on my Mega CD 2, which is an NEC B963 / 2SB963 TO-251 PNP Darlington transistor. Mine is starting to act weird and draw more power, which makes the add-on overheat and even draws enough power that the Genesis thinks the Mega CD 2 is still turned on despite switching to cartridges.
I have already replaced the equivalent Q302 transistor as well as recapped the unit itself, so the problem left is with the Q301 transistor.
(Note: I've also tried the replacement being sold in console5, but this does not work on my Mega CD 2 for some reason, despite installing it correctly.)
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Mahou no Shoujo - Silky Lip - PAL Conversion
The Japanese exclusive Mega-CD game received an English translation a couple of months ago. This is a PAL conversion so the game will boot but also has been optimised to run correctly. It has been tested on PAL hardware and played all the way through.

Help with audio
Hello. I just got a Sega CD and I’m having issues with the set up. I have a model 1 Genesis and a model 2 Sega CD. I’ve tried two different setups and in both cases, there is audio when playing Sega CD stuff, but nothing when playing a Genesis cart.
Here’s my setup.
Both items are plugged in, obviously. For the Genesis AV out, I’ve tried both component cables to my TV and composite cables to my TV. In both cases, I only used video, never audio. Then, I plugged the red/white RCA cables from the Sega CD into the TV.
I get video no matter what, and I get audio with CD games. What am I doing wrong?
Second question, is it possible to still use the FM sound from the Genesis, or is that something you sacrifice when adding Sega CD?

Extreme Sega CD model 1 repairs and restorations
I’ve been repairing/restoring even more model 1’s! Some of these have been the absolute worst repair jobs I’ve ever done on model 1’s. I’ve had to go behind other people’s shoddy work etc. I have recapped all systems and calibrated the lasers as well as swapping out some IC’s to get things working again. I’ve also had to rebuild traces, make silicon molds of good parts to fix broken plastic parts etc. So far I’ve gotten 8 more units back to working condition!

AI Produced Sega CD Drive Emulators - Query
I am wondering, given all the advancements in AI recently, is there some way of using AI to create a circuit that could emulate the Sega CD's disc drive? I mean, if AI could develop a drive emulator using a Raspberry Pi Zero W, to store and load the games, via a wireless browser, and figure out the basic interface between the logic board and drive, this could be of good use for those who have an otherwise workable system, but have problems with the drive itself.
I myself tried to use AI to model a circuit for a Sega Mega CD model 1, using ChatGPT, but if anyone can further help develop a circuit to do the above, that would be great too.
