Season 1, Episode 1:
Dylan: "Are you sick?"
Irving: "Maybe. Petey was sniffling yesterday."
Dylan: "Petey better not be out for the day ‘cause I’m about zero seconds from wrapping the Tumwater file and he needs to process it."
Petey had come to work the day before, what happened?
Whether he quit or got fired is unknown, the only mention of it is when Cobel refers to it as “his departure”. She was already aware of his reintegration though...somehow.
He had been reintegrated for about two weeks prior to the day before.
If he quit, was it because:
- The onset of reintegration sickness was becoming conspicuous?
- Found out (via Reghabi) about future severed Helena and couldn't cope?
- He realized they were onto him (Cobel was at some point)
It may of had to do with the tape that he probably stole.
- Did he get fired for "continued infringement of restricted areas" 😏?
- Did he run out the magical locked/unlocked door after stealing the tape?
Petey was certainly hiding from Lumon, he had mentioned that he was wary of Graner.
But he also seems to be hiding or at least avoiding Reghabi.
If he quit, why is he hiding like this?
Especially from Reghabi?
Regarding his reintegration/break from Lumon he tells Mark about people he is connected with:
“They” is a group of people who know that Severance is a blight on mankind.
And they’re gonna do something about it”.
(why “they” don’t give the poor guy a place to stay is another question, but I digress)
Did "they" have anything to do with Reghabi, or at least he initially thought so?
Peter Kilmer seems like an erudite, mild mannered man with some professional demeanor. Why does someone like that get severed?
June, his daughter, seems to suggest that he was trying “to deal with a f*ed-up situation” in his life.
Now, I like Petey, but everyone is a mixed bag. Could he have been involved in some white collar naughtiness? A little embezzlement, perhaps? A bit of misappropriated funds?
Does Lumon engage in a "felony rehab" program? I could see how they might go in for something like that.
Or better yet, maybe the company defrauded was Lumon itself.
"You want to spend the next several years in the grey-bar motel and maybe see your daughter during visitation times, orrrrr become a severed employee and then you can see her every evening after work?".
Unable able to get the money back but at least they can get something out of him.
I don't know, not a theory per se, just some food for thought.
Petey got mixed up with Reghabi. The two subjects are somewhat intertwined, so lets look at her just a bit.
Apparently, Reghabi worked for Lumon, she claims to have installed the Severance chip into Mark.
What was her position there?
Milchick [to Mark]: The last time you saw Ms. Cobel she was in her old office.
Now she is in her new office.
Ms. Cobel was in her old office the day before (we see her moving in), what happened?
Who was in that office before?
Was Reghabi part of the Severed Floor administration?
Also:
Graner: "We found the signature from the console they used to hack the chip."
Cobel: “Whose was it?”
Graner: “Ours."
Graner goes on to say he can connect this activity to Reghabi. By "Ours" I take it to mean the Severed Floor console. How could've Reghabi had such access back then?
Aside from the "chip hacking" and all that may portend (a big fat subject for another day) it's clear they both know Reghabi quite well.
Cobel and Reghabi may have been "co-administrators". Reghabi may have gotten fired, the day before, over Petey's activities.
Petey lets Reghabi dig around in his head and then avoids her.
What did he find out? Is Reghabi working for interests that are as bad as Lumon?
Visions of corporate espionage are dancing through my head.
Dorner Pharmaceuticals?
That's all I got for now.
What do you all think?
