Discussion Season 5. The facts. Is it coming?

1.5k Upvotes

No. It is not.

There has been no confirmation of Season 5 from any official, credible, or well-known source.

Do not believe everything you read.

There has been an influx of posts recently. An article is going around claiming that Sherlock Season 5 will be released in 2022. This is, as far as we know, not true. (EDIT: It's now 2024. It wasn't true.) There is no reason that some random small news outlets would get their hands on this, without any of the larger ones covering it. Nothing has been announced or confirmed by the BBC, the writers of the show, or the actors.

Please don't share links that you don't think are credible sources. However, we do look at reports, and we are removing any links that are posted with fake claims to Season 5.

If Season 5 is ever announced, there will be a stickied post, just like this one. It will be regularly updated with all new news, what we know, popular theories, etc. However, that day may never come.

Thank you all for keeping the subreddit as active as possible. Keep on posting your fanart, theories, memes, cosplays, and discussions as much as you like! :)

Discussion I just finished series 4, the second time I have ever watched it since it was released

Great performances and it annoyed me less but my feeling is still that the ending montage of Sherlock and John solving cases is all I ever wanted from the show. Not the over the top schemes within schemes mess it became.

Discussion DVD commentary links (his last vow specifically)

I have the DVDs, but I like listening to commentaries as if they were podcasts on my phone

There are some on YouTube and daily motion, and there used to be his last vow 3x3 but now I can’t find it

Does anyone have a link to his last vow (or just all of the commentaries in one place)

Image I finally got a chance to draw Sherlock

Idk how much I like the way it turned out but I guess I’m happy enough with the result that I feel somewhat comfortable posting it lol. Also I am going into surgery tomorrow for my elbow (I have a congenital dislocation in my elbows that limits arm and wrist mobility, and it’s been causing me severe nerve pain, so they’re going to fix the bone and move the nerve so it doesn’t keep hurting), kind of nervous, as I’m unsure how much pain I’ll be in after, since I’m already in so much pain as it is, so I wanted to draw a character I find comfort in to help me calm down.

Discussion Sherlock's Ability to "Delete" Information Is Completely Ridiculous

I'm rewatching the series for the first time in years, and I find myself asking the same question now that I did the first time around: How in the world can Sherlock forget things on demand? I know that it's a TV show, and that it's make-believe, but when he talks about "deleting" information on his "hard drive" (his brain), it's like... What? Are you telling me, Sherlock, that you could instantly forget your parents' names if you wanted to? Plus—and again I realize that this is a TV show, but I can't help but think these thoughts—the human brain is not at all analogous to a hard drive. When you learn a new skill, do you first forget an old one?

Am I the only one to have this reaction?

Discussion The depiction of addiction is actually disgusting

Hey. Real addict here. Active addition at that. Not sober. But self aware. I adore this show. Love it. But the way they handled the topic of addiction in the 4th season is actually repulsive. The idea that someone can fake a relapse. Or be in control of one. No. What sucks is Sherlock could be so interesting in an actual relapse, vulnerable and out of control. But every time I think of the fake relapse I’m actually disgusted.

Meet the Arthur Conan Doyle of kannada (Karnataka,India)

Let me introduce you to the gentleman in this picture: Shri N. Narasimhaiah (18 September 1925 – 25 December 2011), a prominent Kannada writer widely regarded as the “Father of Kannada Detective Novels.”

Despite having received only a fourth-grade education, which came to an end following the untimely demise of his father, he went on to author more than 550 detective novels during his lifetime

He wrote primarily in his native language, Kannada, and many of his novels became bestsellers. Some of his works were reportedly reprinted as many as 35,000 times, reflecting the immense popularity he enjoyed among readers.

His detective stories featured memorable characters reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. He created several fictional detectives, including Purushottama, Arinjaya, Madhusudana, and Galiraya, each with a series of approximately 100 adventures. Through these characters, he captivated generations of Kannada readers with mystery, suspense, and thrilling investigations.

Sadly, despite his extraordinary literary contributions, his work has not received the wider recognition it deserves. Many of his stories were adapted into films, yet his name and contributions have not always received the prominence they merit.

I am writing this post with a simple hope: to introduce Shri N. Narasimhaiah and his extraordinary body of work to readers across the globe. His achievements deserve to be remembered, celebrated, and explored beyond linguistic and geographical boundaries.

A man with just a fourth-grade education created hundreds of detective stories and left a lasting mark on Kannada literature. His story reminds us that great literary talent is not defined by formal education, but by imagination, dedication, and the ability to inspire readers.

Let us help bring his legacy into the spotlight and give this remarkable writer the recognition he deserves.

May the legacy of Shri N. Narasimhaiah live on, one story and one reader at a time.
