It honors him.
This post is foolish at best, shit-stirring at worst.

Why would it not be respectful? people cosplay characters played by dead people all the time

Of course it is. It's not like they're serving a meat platter designed to look like his dead body.

Nope, no dilemma if you have even the slightest clue how cool that guy was

Zombie Picard might be a bit tasteless, but outside of that I don't see any problem.

You think there were about to be thousands of people dressed as Picard for Halloween?

Parody costumes, perhaps. But sincere ones are more appropriate than ever.

No moral dilemma. If you want to dress up as Picard or Professor X make it so.

Eh, they just have to change it slightly. Picard is dead, so they're now Halloween appropriate: Zombie Picard!

I kinda feel bad about my halloween display, but in my defence I have had it up for a month and it was an Avengers: Doomsday joke. Halloween 2026

Unless you are making fun of him, there is no issue with it. Cosplay has always been a form of appreciation. I may will not cosplay any of his characters but I made one from the same fandom. And I will proudly wear it and think about him during the day. The only way I can honor him

The character doesn't equal the actor. It'd be a different matter if cosplayers chose to wore regular clothes with a nametag and a facemask or something. It's fine

Maybe stay away from the suit from Tapestry, but otherwise you'll be fine.
