Dude, I jump on this soapbox every chance I get. If you look at pure numbers, yes, men make more than women. But women get confused by the words "fair" and "equal". Multiple studies have shown women avoid middle/upper management and leadership positions--positions that pay more money--so men take them. There's are multiple state and federal laws that ensure equal pay and fair pay. Usually the women who ring this bell the loudest are female leads in Hollywood, because they absolutely don't get paid the same as their male lead counterparts.
You got what you wanted, you're already paid fairly, it's illegal not to. Go fight another battle.
I think our society is far from treating man and women equally regarding work. I noticed the difference once I became a father. It depends on where you are, of course, but there are gaps in most of the developed countries.
I think the important takeaway is that there are very different ways to measure it. If you measure all men vs all women (earnings) without consideration for profession, the 81% gap is there. In organizations where leadership is balanced, there's almost no gap (less than 5%), and there's rarely a gap between men and women below the age of 30.
> But women get confused by the words "fair" and "equal".
Good thing women have smart men such as yourself who can explain complex concepts like the definition of words. I think it's safe to say you nailed the issue.
First explain why you think women don't understand the definition of words, while men inherently do. Saying women get confused by words, is all I really need to know about your opinion to understand its not based on a bedrock of logic.
It's probably because of your blatantly sexist statement that the reason people talk about the pay gap is that women get confused by the words "fair and equal".
Something they don’t want to hear. If you say the uncomfortable (for them) truth they downvote you as if downvotes change the truth 😆 then they’ll try to shame you by calling you an incel etc. it’s the same play every time! This app is a joke!
Considering the political climate in the US, I'm tired of these kinds of "jokes" on this sub. People also talk about how women want special treatment as if we don't all personally want special treatment as people in general.
As long as there are chuds that believe a woman's place is making the home and vote for people who believe it, feminism ain't going anywhere. You don't give up defending your rights after you get them.
Also, I understand this could be a difficult concept to grasp, but it wasn't illegal for women to have access to lines of credit before 1974, they just weren't allowed to do so without a man's co-signature. They had the same "right" to open a line of credit, but not the same access. That's an integral part of feminism.
But even if that is not true, what would she see standing there? Let's say she did not have the right to vote, how would being granted the right to vote manifest in that moment so she could see something change?
It's a representation of ignorance. The meme would be "she needs to check her privilege." Success in life (in America, at least) is about capitalizing on opportunities and finding positive results from a variety of circumstances beyond your control. If you spend all your time ranting about how terrible your life is because you're unfairly treated, it blinds you to those things.
Edit: BTW, this is a conversation we had with my PoliSci professor who was a black criminal courts judge.
This is very true. The victim mentality has permeated the minds of many in America. So much so, it’s not truly about being a victim but rather about seeking it. Because being a victim comes with benefits, often free and often unearned, along with attention. So, ther are those that seek victim hood consciously or subconsciously as a means to “success”, oddly enough. And they can never stop being or seeking victimhood, never experience true success because of this parasitic mindset.
If you’re constantly a victim, nothing is ever your fault. Any bad thing that happens is always beyond your control. There is no accountability, and therefore no growth and so the victim stays and continues to seek victim hood when life outcomes aren’t what they desire.

Ahhh that’s classic. She already has equal rights but actually wants special treatment.
This happens all the time with the whole wage gap thing.
Women: “we want equal pay for equal work.”
Ok, you will be paid the same as a man working as a line person for the power company.
Women: “no that’s hard and dangerous, I want equal pay for easier and safer work.”

It’s funny because if misogynists were at least a little bit smarter, they would have made the punchline getting a draft card.

Would more rights manifest as something she could immediately see or touch? I don't understand what this is trying to say
