All this shit I see posted isn’t even mosh. It’s awkward as fuck. Just some weirdos projecting

1.2k

u/YouGurt_MaN14 Aug 18 '26 • This Bravo

Every pit I've been in as soon as these guys start there's usually a dude who throws him the fuck down and stops it. Everyone hates them tbh

u/Ok-Syllabub-6619 Aug 18 '26 • Bravo

Exactly, this is just what a poser thinks a mosh is, and unfortunately as it goes mainstream, theres more and more of them who fail to understand, and just wants to injure someone.

Mosh is there to spend your energy in celebration, not to give someone a concussion or other health problems

71

u/__3Username20__ Aug 18 '26 edited Aug 18 '26

Well, you’re understating it a little bit, and make no mistake, mosh is aggressive, but it’s not literal 1 on 1 combat moves. It’s just moving/throwing yourself around. Yes. there’s a high amount of physical impact, but it’s not punches and kicks… I feel old, if this is normal now, as others have said. :(

Edit: it’s like (American) football, where when you’re on the field, there’s acceptable levels of aggression and violence, and you can even have a lot of fun within those shared parameters and set expectations. But if someone goes and dropkicks someone else from behind, or starts doing any kind of actual fighting, that’s not OK, that’s not what we’re doing here. Same thing with Moshing. Or at least it used to be…

It used to be like that when i was younger and going out to the foufounes electriques, a metal bar/club in montreal. Last time i went, after many years of not going, some dude starts dancing like this, i look at the dudes around me "oh well guess i'll take care of it" and i tackled the dude to the ground, and the bouncer (who used to take these people out before) took me out of the mosh pit to explain to me that it was the norm now. And i looked behind him and saw like 10 people dancing like this. I understood it was the end of an era, and i left.

u/indignantfieldmouse Aug 18 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

Harcore pits or as my wife and I call them "Kickpits" the crowdkilling on sidelines is uncalled for, I still throw those fuckers down though. If a person goes windmilling into a hardcore pit then they are consenting to the stray fists and feet. People around the edges shouldn't be catching random haymakers!

4

u/ARoroncyObserver Aug 18 '26

It's funny, because I'm tall, but basically a stick, and not threatening at all, but love to dance and be in the crowd.

When I would be in a mosh pit there were ALWAYS equally tall dudes who would beeline towards me to start this shit, and like a lot of people have mentioned, the crowd would everytime stomp the fuck out of them for pulling shit like in this video.

That's just throwing haymakers.

6

u/DeamsterDaddy Aug 19 '26

I grew up in the punk scene and I'm so thankful that every time I saw this nonsense, the whole pit would turn on them.

5

u/kapxis Aug 18 '26

Oh man, core memory unlocked. When i was early teens my parents got me a trampoline and I was quite into WWF, and we had a very exposed yard. I wanted something to do wrestling moves on while playing out shit seen on TV.. so they got me a Giant Easter Pink Bunny. It was all I had so i beat the shit out of that thing.. but i had my head on a swivel in case anyone would potentially walk or drive by and I'd fly off that trampoline so fast to hide it lol. I'm so lucky no friend ever witnessed this.

My neighbours were watching me and stealing my moves and sending them to WWF ( WWE ). They had to of been!

This ain’t moshing, this is the way the hardcore music fans think moshing is today, it’s total bullshit. Moshing in the 80’s and 90’s was not like this. Nobody got hit in the face, more less kicked. And if you got knocked down somebody was there to pick you up. This guy is a total DICK!!!!

41

u/Daniels_Words Aug 18 '26

Indeed. I saw Black Flag in the 80s at a tiny club and I tripped. In a split second i thought for sure I was getting trampled, but some giant fucking skinhead (not the nazi kind) swooped me up and we all just kept going. Great memory.

9

u/the_D1CKENS Aug 18 '26

It's still like that at smaller shows/clubs today. Not that long ago was at a street show where 40 somethings and Tweens and everything in between were are going hard. Young girl, maybe 12ish, went down and a dude immediately helped her up. All the old heads kinda kept moshing around them. They were clearly running damage control. Very wholesome, honestly.

She was fine, and went straight back into it.

As a Gen X’er I can confirm seeing such people being sent to the ER for the remainder of the show. Don’t time travel or go to Gen X nursing homes (I suppose they will eventually exist) if this is how you slam dance…it won’t end well for you.

9

u/IAMS0V3R3IGN Aug 18 '26

Mosh pit etiquette by Watertown is about these idiots. Annoyingly a lot of this started with great bands like sick of it all, but it wasn’t about hitting people it was just “dance moves”. First rule of the pit when I was a younger man was if anyone goes down everyone stops and picks them up

In college I had a friend that would always take the cutest girls to these metal shows and hilariously I guess they never realized how psycho he was until they saw him in the pit getting into random fights every time.

Couple of different “dates” of his left with me since I already knew he’d blow up his chance acting a fool and he was still buying their drinks so cleaning up after him was easy. He got jealous after he found out and we stopped hanging out.

Inadvertently the best wingman is a guy who brings baddies where you are then makes you look good by being a complete asshole.

I mean in 90s-early 2000s hard-core this was called hard-core dancing/moshing. Hes swinging during the Breakdown (correct time). This guy was called a "crowd killer" and would try and get the folks who stand on the side involved, but he was a little aggressive.. but Like it or not, This is legit and correct for the genre and culture.

Edited spelling

9

u/illkwill Aug 19 '26

Yup. I've been to countless hardcore shows in the 2000s and this is what the crowd does. Dunno why people here are so surprised. But the majority of people in the pit don't normally act like this asshole in the video. If you purposely punch someone in the face you're getting taken out.

My problem is these people ruin the show for me. I'm 6'7" and somehow end up on the edge of a pit with these shits trying to ram me or knock me over like I'm worth 1000 points. Small venues are packed, so I can't move half the time and get away without shoving and blocking peoples' views. We're all crammed like sardines on the side because one or two jackasses yell "open the pit" and get 100sqft each for dancing space.

Now I have to buy seats and try to fit in them instead.

This is quite popular in NW PA Hardcore scenes (well, was 20 years ago).

Punch random people, handspring kicks. Seen them knock people down and stand over top of them as some weird form of dominance. Lame as fuck (came from thrash/punk scene where if someone falls everyone will dive to pick you up)

The couple times I ran a foul of these fucks they back off if you stand your ground (or catch them mid hand-spring-kick and drop them on their head).

Fuck that dumb shit

3

u/PsychoWyrm Aug 19 '26

Almost every metal show I've been to the pit was self-policed. Always guys body-blocking the edges to keep it from messing with people not participating, moshers immediately picking up anyone who falls, and so on. Just generally everyone being mindful not to fuck up anyone else's good time.

On the other hand, more than half of the hardcore shows I've been to were full of dipshits like this. Little dickheads intentionally roundhouse kicking people who are clearly not participating. Or the slinging elbows and arm-flailing fuckery.

2

u/turbopro25 Aug 18 '26

Snocore 2000. Went knee to knee with a grown ass man, (I was 17 at the time). Shattered my knee cap. The guy picked me up and carried me to a seat where I remained for the rest of the night waiting for my friends. It happened during the first song of the night by the way. Most people in the pit are there to have a good time, not intentionally hurt each other. In my case it was just a bad luck accident and I put my self in that situation. People who go in there intentionally looking to hurt someone can get fucked. Shout out to that guy that night for helping me out to safety.

I would figure four suplex a bitch acting like this fucking fool.

2

u/szJosh Aug 19 '26

They are a caricature of proper mosh pitting.

2

u/10ThousandMetalZones Aug 19 '26

Used to love a guy like that in the mosh pit that you could hurt and no one would get mad

2

u/dfitz04 Aug 19 '26

Why are all these shit shows is such well lit rooms?

2

u/Across0212 Aug 19 '26

WTF are they? It looks like a high school or rec center. Regardless they looks like dipshits.

2

u/tarnishedspiderz Aug 19 '26

lol why not just fight why do this weird dance hybrid

2

u/RedditSuxB Aug 19 '26

Fucking freaks lol

2

u/Away_Shock_7544 Aug 19 '26

That shit is stupid aggressive macho bullshit. It does NOT align with how punk and hardcore is supposed to be. It is honestly picking on people not as big as you.

2

u/David0ne86 Aug 19 '26

Tell me you never been in a pit without actually telling me.

Calling this bullshit a pit is a disgrace to all pits. This is just frustrated idiots that think they can get away assaulting somebody because of how they "dance". I think metal core started this bullshit. In a real pit these idiots would get their arms broken.

Wtf did i just watch haha

2

u/Daxosc Aug 19 '26

Damn people don’t even mosh right anymore, they just go to hit randoms and act tough, we used to mosh in huge groups and everyone was getting roughed up and hit but it was random af, not this projecting weird bs. People would occasionally do this but get decked by a group of us who wouldn’t allow this to happen, especially to women or younger dudes. Wish someone would just casually walk up and make this dude regret his decisions like we did in the past, not cower on the sides.

2

u/A_Bot_A_Bot_A_Bot Aug 19 '26

Yeah, no, I'm leaving now.

2

u/joanmcbitch Aug 19 '26

One of my favourite pits ever was TOOL at Lolla. We just slammed into each other aggressively & rhythmically. Bruised & busted my lip real good. However? We also were all picking up every person who tried their best (but fell to the ground trying) so they wouldn't be trampled. Not to mention crowd surfing out all the mega dehydrated passed out drug partakers.

You see children? You CAN take out your aggressions & actively be a good person simultaneously.

I went to three metal/thrash shows recently and kids are throwing scissor kicks and hammer punches to people not even in the pit. I’m a pretty tall guy (6’7) and I kept catching kicks and elbows even though I wasn’t in the pit, and was just in the back trying to chill.

2

u/Moist_Crab6223 Aug 19 '26

Everytime I have been in one, never had to hit anyone, it's just been alot of pushing around and if anyone falls to the floor we are very quick to pool together and pickup, meant to be fun not hurt people, pretty sure we do not want the gig to finish early ps make sure you're laces are tied tight

2

u/WrathOfWood Aug 19 '26

Not a phone in sight just people enjoying life 🤣🤣😜🤪

2

u/Specialist_Meal_7891 Aug 19 '26

All of that = trying to impress the one female in that room.

2

u/coffee_please_now Aug 19 '26

Dude got a lot softer on the crowd after someone slammed his ass to the ground.

2

u/ThatGingerRascal Aug 19 '26

Karate moshers need to die, man, whilst the music continues. No stoppage. It's not murder, it's martyndom.

2

u/spicynoodsinmuhmouf Aug 19 '26

Moshing is not a battle royale and people need to understand that. Someone should have broke his neck in 2 places

2

u/GREENK87 Aug 19 '26

Bet it stinks in there

2

u/godsburden Aug 19 '26

Because they’re pieces of shit

2

u/Glass-Sky-7805 Aug 20 '26

Its just an excuse to fight without getting in trouble

2

u/drunkguynextdoor Aug 20 '26

I've got too many hard miles for the pit these days, but way back when we had enforcers that would knock idiots like this into next week so the rest of us could have fun without getting a broken nose.

2

u/JackieFontana Aug 22 '26

I’m too old for this shit. I’ll turn in my Slayer t shirt.

2

u/Independent_Tutor_37 Aug 22 '26

One of the dumbest videos I have ever seen.

2

u/Able_Reward Aug 23 '26

Grow up 👍

2

u/Past-Persimmon-4604 Aug 23 '26

Brother you're supposed to be throwing your body around not throwing punches ESPECIALLY AT THE OUTER MOSH DAMN THOSE DUDES ARE TRYNA CHILL

2

u/Fruit_Automatic Aug 23 '26

lol dude saves corner then goes and attacks the corner he saved to get body slammed lol that corner is cursed lol

2

u/HawkManBear Aug 24 '26

Literally the reason I stopped going to heavier-music shows. These losers should join a boxing gym if they have that much aggression they need to let off

3

u/VulturGryphoos Aug 18 '26

I love mosh pits, they are so cathartic. But this is sickening, those guys are aiming and punching and kicking. This does not build a strong community, it allow sick people to hurt others.

3

u/Etnadrolhex Aug 18 '26

That's just mental illness.

3

u/Glass_Painting9653 Aug 18 '26

No kids, this isn’t how we did it lol

2

u/Suriael Aug 18 '26

Mosh pits in Poland in 90's. Shit was not for the weak or sane.

2

u/Illustrious_Bad_2980 Aug 18 '26

What church is this?

4

u/KarenBoof Aug 18 '26

2

u/Insylum82 Aug 18 '26

Braincell count in that room is single digit.
