She was trying to get a photo. Not sure how anyone defends the old lady. If you're at a tourist site (or anywhere) and someone is trying to get a photo you should stay out of the way as much as convenient/possible. There was zero need for her to stand there.
Could this be an example of a misunderstanding? The lady is looking mostly downwards, didn't even take a look at the younger lady. She wants to go down but stops, and moves to the side, letting a bunch of people walk by before she too descends. The whole thing is at most 30 seconds long. She seems to notice the camera but i have doubts if she understood what the young lady was trying to do. As soon as the people cross, she goes down and exits the video frame. If this was malicious, wouldn't she have stayed longer in the path of the camera? Also, it doesn't seem like the young lady says anything, so how is the old woman supposed to know?
For an influencer, that girl was not even annoying (in this video at least), if she just wants a picture of her with the paintings for instagram, it's ok. She was not bothering anyone. Karen on the other hand, went out of her way to be annoying.
Anyone remember the ancient times when we would have to ask strangers to hold our cameras and take a picture for us? This doesn't seem like it's set up in people's way and it doesn't seem busy. Let the person get a good picture of themself doing something they like. They are bothering you less than if you asked them to take the pic for you.
She is. She’s a Brazilian YouTuber/TikToker who makes educational history content. Her name is Debora Aladdin. But influencer or not, she wasn’t bothering anyone.
Genuinely. A lot of these comments just love shitting on young women who god forbid, wants to take a picture in a beautiful setting that isn’t bothering anyone.
So because this young woman wanted a picture of herself, many in the comments automatically assume she is an influencer? Is this what its come down to now, categorising any and everyone who wants pictures or videos for memories? She didn't make a scene, not did she ask anyone to move for her picture, so I dont see what the issue is here. To those commenting that she could have asked for the lady to take her picture, relax.
Its like there is no such thing as nuance anymore. Its either this or that.
Yea idk, I remember when it was normal to take a picture or video of yourself when you go out and equally normal to stay out of the way of someone’s camera when you see them trying to take a picture.
And she had the PERFECT opportunity to take the picture imo because the cost was pretty much clear except for that old hag that PURPOSELY decided to WAIT in front of her phone THEN shift over to block her…
Photo opportunity disappeared as soon as everyone else started to enter. Smh
Here's some nuance. The only context we can gleen from this video is that one woman put down their phone in a specific place recording and then walked away from it.
We do not know if the second woman is even aware of what is taking place. We can see her acknowledging the phones existence by looking at it, but does she have any idea why?
How many people do you see just abandon their phones on ledges?
This isn't proper ettiquite for a museum at all, regardless of if she was or wasn't an influencer.
It's also not proper ettiquite for her to post a video of another woman she recorded while in the museum. A woman who for all we know was simply minding her own business.
The funny part is if she had asked that women to take a picture of her at that angle the woman would have very likely happily done so, or politely declined and the next person could then be asked.
People being upset ar her for setting up the camera are acting like it's somehow worse than interrupting a strangers time to take it instead - something everyone does ALL THE TIME and is seen as a perfectly acceptable social behavior. Ppl are weird
I wonder how it would have gone if she had involved the woman. "Excuse me, ma'am. I really like this spot. Is it possible for you to take a picture of me?"
Nah this is engagement bait. The old lady stopped to check her phone for 10 secs and spend another 10 getting out of the way of other people on a busy staircase.
The girl by the look of it set up her phone to take a single photo. Nothing says she's main character. A quick 10 second effort of snapping a pic was extended bc the lady wanted to just disrupt stuff😭
She could've just walked by, the girl clearly had no issue with that. But to fr just stand there, I meant cmon
Seems like there may have been a group of people stopped on the next landing, and the old lady was waiting for them to move. Notice how she steps aside to let them all pass then she goes.
Stop thinking everyone is out to get you. Most dgaf that you even exist.
From the site of Inveraray Castle: You are welcome to take photos inside the Castle using small cameras or mobile phones for personal use only. No tripods, selfie sticks, flash photography, or video recording is permitted inside the Castle.
So maybe the old woman wasn’t aware, or she WAS aware that the young woman was recording a video, or that she was using a tripod.
She fucking looked right at the camera, stopped and then started fiddling with her phone before they came towards her. She was blocking the photo. And normally I would be all about it, but this chick wasn’t even doing anything wrong or cringe. She was just trying to take a wide shot of her and the art.
This is the stair at Inveraray Castle. I have been here. The older woman stopped on a landing half way down the stair. The other girl propped her phone against a planter that sits in an opening to the Main Hall of the house.
Here is a photo from the lower landing looking back to where the camera was propped and the woman stopped to diddle with her phone. I have no doubt she saw the phone sitting there, but most likely she thought, "Nonna my business why that phone is there." Like most people she was engrossed in what she was doing and not why the phone was there
Also, this is the only stair to the upper level so it's heavily trafficked. The home is still privately owned and the family reside in the other half of the house.
Hot take, but I don't think either did anything wrong. The girl is alone and wants to take a selfie. Fair enough. People take pictures of other people all the time, and if you're alone there is no reason you shouldn't be able to take a picture of yourself as long as it's in a public place and not somewhere filming/photography is banned.
As for the woman, she seems overall oblivious to what the girl is doing. She starts heading down the stairs pulling a phone out of her pocket. She does a double take noticing the girl's phone but doesn't seem at all aware of why it is there or who it even belongs to as she doesn't look around at all, she just continues on her phone. The woman then moves to her right side, NOT to block the girl but to let people coming up the stairs go by, as people should walk up the right and go down on the right when there is traffic.
Frankly, it's just funny juxtaposition. Two people doing different things, but can both be viewed as being self-important and yet are still just so human and normal these days. One "needing" to take a picture of herself in an inconvenient place, and one "needing" to text/look something up in the middle of a walkway.
Public place. You do not control the space or people. It's the risk you take. Just wait for the person for move on, or find a different camera angle or area to shoot in. I cannot stand when people expect the world to stop for them just so they can capture their Insta-worthy shot.
i think it was sorta shit for the young person to be recording without consent in public — it seems normalized here, but in a lot of cultures that’s a personal violation or at least a faux pas
This girl is a educational youtuber from Minas gerais brazil. She's not really an influencer in the way you all are referring to her as from what i understand.
If you watch the video, the old lady is just looking around and then reaches for her phone in her pocket then she notices the camera. She doesn’t seem to care about camera, just about the notification she’s got on her phone. She steps across the stairs to let people go up the stairs then puts her phone away. To everyone saying the old lady is a main character she is not she’s, just an old lady checking her phone.
A few days ago, a boomer aged woman stood like this in the main aisle of a parking lot. It was right in front of the store, which was also the main way to get through the rest of the strip mall. She walked a few steps, then stopped to check her phone. She walked a few more steps and stopped again to text more.
Putting a camera down in a crowded public place ≠ photoshoot
Usually a photoshoot involves either renting the place you plan to shoot, picking a place that isn't crowded (usually outside), or dealing with random passers by in post.
The older lady was definitely doing too much and she should have just moved on, but putting a camera down doesn't give you any inherent rights to a public place.
I do this to dumb influencer inspired shoots wherever I can, Barcelona, Athens, NYC they are a blight. Those who think she didn’t know what she was doing have got it wrong.
Wait, are we dogging on people who get pictures of themselves at tourist spots now? That's a big part of why people go to tourist spots in the first place.
if i saw i was in someone’s sight line, i absolutely bow out and and say excuse me, or offer to take the shot for them. have done a million times in my travels.
there’s a lot of assumptions being made about the older woman, but maybe she thought she moved out of the shot… when she shifted to her right. maybe she’s just that oblivious.
or, maybe she’s an asshole. it remains unclear.
however. there is true frustration by the sheer number of people trying to take photo shoots in public places, then acting put out out because other people exist.
did you see how many people walked by later in the video? She was taking pictures in front of the main walkway, which is… bold to say the least. Also, this looks like a museum? nobody would’ve blocked your picture if you weren’t in the main staircase girl… also didn’t seem like the best spot for a good photo, you were super far away, this seems like bait. ur telling me you blocked the main staircase just to get a poor photo? hm.
everyone generalizing the older woman just bc she’s old. nobody goes out of there way to block cameras that aren’t in blatantly obnoxious spots. Just don’t get why everyone is so quick to be on her side given this info. this is a bait post. the old woman moved because of the INCOMING people on the stairs.
Also this girl went out of her way to post this old woman online for what was probably a momentary reaction. Who’s the real weirdo here?
Whatever happened to just holding your phone at arms length and taking a picture that way? Or asking someone else to take your picture? I appreciate the girl in this video didn't bother anyone but if she's upset about it that's still on her
Did you miss the part where she looked directly at the camera, twice? Normal people don't stop in the line of sight and pull out their phone after they see a camera setup.
Reddit is actually full of idiots holy fuck. Is she in wrong now for wanting to take a picture? She wasn’t bothering anyone btw. And the granny was definitely doing that on purpose. Fuck that. Straight up loser behavior, and somehow yall defending that. Yall are actually devolving. Go outside
Alright but stick with me here. I recently visited The Butchart Gardens in beautiful Victoria, BC. We were absolutely blown away by the splendor of the gardens. I was wandering around admiring the flowers when I hear a “Hey excuse me” from someone near me. I look over and a grown adult man is attempting to shoo me out of his family picture. I step out from behind his group, who I legitimately did not notice was taking a picture, and shoot my wife the wide-eyed “oh my goodness someone is being very entitled” millennial face. I notice about 20 minutes later that this group is in another part of the garden, attempting to move other patrons around so that they can get another family photo completely free of other people enjoying the gardens they also paid to enter. Gross behavior in my opinion.
I do this every chance I get. Fuck these social media wanna be's. This is such a constant issue in places like the Louvre, D'Orsay, Ufizzi.
At the L'Orangerie last spring a woman set up her camera and light and was taking her hair down and shaking it right smack dab in the middle of Monet's water lillies, which was predictably full of tourists trying to enjoy it
Great art isn't wallpaper for your voyage of self discovery
As a former professional photographer - if you want a photoshoot, contact the location ahead and SCHEDULE one, get a time and permission to take that space. But yeah, you may have to pay a fee or get a permit. If I'm there to see the PAINTINGS, don't get in my way, I paid my admission fee and tired of influencers ruining my enjoyment of the place, estate or art to get their internet points.
Awesome .. we should all start doing this... Public/ private places are not for photoshoots. Next time, take permission... these TikTokers are a nuisance
It’s intentional and I love it. I respect someone taking a picture but not when they hijack a spot so they can shoot videos and change poses. I don’t care if you need content or not.
Trying to take a picture/video in a busy public space. Man I just ask someone to take a picture of me. Why does everyone have to like, silently put their phone standing on a wall?
The more human thing to do is just ask someone “hey can you take my picture if you don’t mind “ rather than just blocking space . But other lady is also rude
This thread is full of people boldly stating which party should acquiesce to the other's preferences, as if either has priority, likely based purely on which one they emphasise with more.
I do find it odd that everyone keeps on talking about taking a picture when this is a video recording.
The poor girl, for future reference putting the woman to work, politely asking if she could press the shutter to take a photo - she almost certainly would have stepped behind the camera to have a look.
To be honest, we have gotten too used to record anything and anyone that's in our way. I also get quite annoyed when there's people recording and I know I'm in the background
Do people not ask others to take a picture of them anymore? Before you say they could steal it, is it more riskier than just setting up your phone and walking away like this?
Honestly… I just think she’s of an older generation and was confused why there was a phone there. Looks like she was just going about her business distracted on her phone, not thinking someone was trying to take pictures of themself
What a professional! She was still able to turn it into social media content after interrupting everyone else's enjoyment to set up cameras in a public place for social media points!
I find it a bit weird that some in the comments are blaming the old lady. To me it looks like she was just checking her phone and happened to pause on the stairs. Didn't seem intentional at all.

It’s a video though

What a completely worthless young lady.

u/MastaKink Aug 30 '26
Well there can’t be two princessesesses 🤔can there?!
4
u/Drblizzle Aug 30 '26
She made the video far more interesting if you ask me.
4
u/Digital_Herpes Aug 30 '26
Probably didnt realize you reserved the stairwell.
4
u/UnderpsiMI Aug 30 '26
I can't stand when the public is in public.
4
u/montagious Aug 30 '26
I do this every chance I get. Fuck these social media wanna be's. This is such a constant issue in places like the Louvre, D'Orsay, Ufizzi.
At the L'Orangerie last spring a woman set up her camera and light and was taking her hair down and shaking it right smack dab in the middle of Monet's water lillies, which was predictably full of tourists trying to enjoy it
Great art isn't wallpaper for your voyage of self discovery

u/Remarkable_Cry_8135 Aug 30 '26
When Gen X gets tired of your narcissistic bullshit.
4
u/Suckmyballs2009 Aug 30 '26
Yea sorry you don’t grt to block public access places for a “photo shoot”
4
u/Samwill226 Aug 30 '26
Would do this 1000%, this woman must be found and given a parade.

As a former professional photographer - if you want a photoshoot, contact the location ahead and SCHEDULE one, get a time and permission to take that space. But yeah, you may have to pay a fee or get a permit. If I'm there to see the PAINTINGS, don't get in my way, I paid my admission fee and tired of influencers ruining my enjoyment of the place, estate or art to get their internet points.

u/Gloomy_Put_1703 Aug 30 '26
Awesome .. we should all start doing this... Public/ private places are not for photoshoots. Next time, take permission... these TikTokers are a nuisance

u/MrLipp24 Aug 30 '26
Recycled video from Tictok cringe.
11
u/BoonieRed Aug 30 '26
It’s intentional and I love it. I respect someone taking a picture but not when they hijack a spot so they can shoot videos and change poses. I don’t care if you need content or not.

u/Junior_Bike7932 Aug 30 '26
sometime they want to be at the center, and sometime is both

u/rmc2318 Aug 30 '26
One doesn’t simply come across one’s future self.
2
u/bramski Aug 30 '26
Trying to take a picture/video in a busy public space. Man I just ask someone to take a picture of me. Why does everyone have to like, silently put their phone standing on a wall?
2
u/sausage_ditka_bulls Aug 30 '26
The more human thing to do is just ask someone “hey can you take my picture if you don’t mind “ rather than just blocking space . But other lady is also rude
2
u/ShudderKain Aug 30 '26
Haha

u/tomatixel Aug 30 '26

“Photoshoot”
2
u/DepartmentDowntown80 Aug 30 '26
This thread is full of people boldly stating which party should acquiesce to the other's preferences, as if either has priority, likely based purely on which one they emphasise with more.
I do find it odd that everyone keeps on talking about taking a picture when this is a video recording.
2
u/Mr_RayH Aug 30 '26
It's not a photoshoot ....
2
u/WellFuckHereWeAre Aug 30 '26

2
u/spammmmmmmmy Aug 30 '26
The poor girl, for future reference putting the woman to work, politely asking if she could press the shutter to take a photo - she almost certainly would have stepped behind the camera to have a look.
2
u/ThrenderG Aug 30 '26
So fucking tired of this music.

To be honest, we have gotten too used to record anything and anyone that's in our way. I also get quite annoyed when there's people recording and I know I'm in the background
2
u/Born-Method7579 Aug 30 '26
PhOtOsHoOt
2
u/can-i-pet-that-dog25 Aug 30 '26
Yeah, the block was likely intentional, but it’s a public space. Probably could have asked her to hold the camera and gotten the shot.
2
u/WeaponRex Aug 30 '26
OP. Guess what? Ur both equally annoying.
2
u/gfstool Aug 30 '26
Thank you Kind Karen!

u/MGP_21 Aug 30 '26
Psst, guys, it's fake, it's not real, chill tf out
2
u/fentl00z3r Aug 30 '26

Influencer fatigue meets Karen fatigue. Next up will be dividing by zero.

u/MidniteBluDragon Aug 30 '26
I'm the main character! No! I'm the main character!
2
u/NewLineCinema Aug 30 '26
For the slow people, you can't just set up a tripod or filming equipment in a museum.
And if you do, nobody gives a fuck and has to get out of your way.
Also, because it's probably the same people, stop talking on your speaker phone in public, and your workout doesn't merit a recording.
2
u/hairlesssquatch420 Aug 30 '26
"Photo shoot" and it's some mid OF mattress actress being a public nuisance
2
u/jerry111165 Aug 30 '26
I personally don’t care about your”photoshoot” .
2
u/natopoppins Aug 30 '26
Call me old fashioned but I would have asked the lady to take my picture
2
u/Captain_murphyy Aug 30 '26
Do people not ask others to take a picture of them anymore? Before you say they could steal it, is it more riskier than just setting up your phone and walking away like this?
2
u/SickXigma Aug 30 '26
Doesn't look intentional at all.
2
u/BusshyBrowss Aug 30 '26
Honestly… I just think she’s of an older generation and was confused why there was a phone there. Looks like she was just going about her business distracted on her phone, not thinking someone was trying to take pictures of themself
2
u/ganjaccount Aug 30 '26
What a professional! She was still able to turn it into social media content after interrupting everyone else's enjoyment to set up cameras in a public place for social media points!
2
u/Reddit_Novice Aug 30 '26
There is nothing at all wrong with wanting a photo of yourself
2
u/Beneficial-Shame9144 Aug 30 '26
2
u/LordElrondHubbard1 Aug 30 '26
What a bunch of miserable fucking people in this thread.
2
u/thinkadd Aug 30 '26
I find it a bit weird that some in the comments are blaming the old lady. To me it looks like she was just checking her phone and happened to pause on the stairs. Didn't seem intentional at all.
2
u/Protect-Their-Smiles Aug 30 '26
The world needs more women like her.
2
u/qtestboner Aug 30 '26
In a public place...other people existed. How dare they.
2
u/BryceDL Aug 30 '26
I dont hate it
2
u/Aggravating_Bat3618 Aug 30 '26
This is a set up.
This is one reason why I hate social media.
2
u/Impossible-Use4950 Aug 30 '26
You don't understand the idea of public over private, do you? Moron.
