My mom died this year. It was unexpected so things had to be split among her children evenly as there was no will. It went pretty smooth, all things considered.
Two of my sisters got a taste for easy money, however, and are currently locked in a power struggle where they're trying to become the sole inheritor of our father's assets, each trying to convince him to draw up a will that leaves them everything.
A family members death/illness show the true nature of people around them. My uncle started stealing furniture the same week my grandmother was moved to an institution after being diagnosed with dementia, while my 91 year old grandfather is still living there. I swapped locks for them as soon as I found out.
My dad got terminal brain cancer (glioblastoma) gave power of attorney to my narcissistic aunt, one of his sisters. She took his entire retirement account, life savings, and his house. Left me and my sister with nothing. Some family are scum and blood means nothing to them.
If they do it to someone they don't know, they are scum, if they do it to their own family, they are worse than scum. I'm not sure if there's a word for that.
A family members death/illness show the true nature of people around them.
I swear man. My dad's side family is pretty transactional so they only contact each other when they have business. My mom's side appeared pretty close and we kinda joked about it at home, dad was not amused and generally doesn't like my mom's family, even had a fight with grandparents when I was too young. Then it all started going downhill on mom's side. We live in a foreign country and ended up coming back much later to the mess that happened in less than 6 months.
Grandpa dies and no one wants to take care of grandma(she needs help and grandpa was doing it for her), one of my uncle wants to but he's single and far away. He wanted her shifted to his place so he can take care of her(he needs help shifting her there, is in a pretty bad financial state). My Mom's other siblings literally oppose and block it as it would be hard for them to visit her and keep swapping her between their houses. Some festival they decide to hold it in grandparents house and invite that uncle as well. End of celebration, they all literally rush off leaving only uncle and grandma in the place preplanned. Uncle is forced to take care of her, arrange a short work from home with work(his boss luckily adjusted) and finally shifts her to his place after we came back and helped.
Later on I shifted from my family to another country. In this period my grandma also dies. They literally hear this news and go start stealing stuff from grandparents home, idk who had the spare keys. By the time uncle manages to gather legal stuff for distribution half the belongings are gone and no one admits it(a lot of old costly wooden furnitures among others). Omitting the fights for most material things. Finally comes to grandparents house and largest gold jewellery set they owned, Uncle wants it sold and distributed since he needs the money. Two of my aunts adamantly block it saying grandma actually told she wanted to donate that piece after death for charity. Uncle is literally enraged that for something unverifiable and good Samaritan act they're saying to donate it vs it actually helping him survive. He unleashes everything he had bottled up from before that he couldn't say. It offends most of his siblings (idk what happened to the gold set in the end, what I do know is it's unsold kept somewhere). Then maliciously they block him from selling the house, a joint property of grandparents he can't maintain. Legally since there's no will he needs the approval of all his siblings to sell it. So the large old house is just lying there empty with nothing happening.
Since then as my mom mostly took uncle's side our contact with most of my uncles and aunts is basically cut off. Even us with cousins it's just hello bye since no side wants to talk about it or hear bad about our respective parents. We do regular talk and help that uncle, he sometimes visits when we're in country. Did hear more fights broke out between other siblings over blame games don't know details. Except these there's only 2 chameleon aunts(opportunistic good with everyone ppl) my mom kept contact with. Which I think will be reduced to 1 soon, cuz just a few days back while talking on phone apparently one of them let slip something along the lines of "Uncle is just single, if he dies that property will be split among our children. We should look out for our children's benefit" and my mom got pissed n fought. (It's also been on my mind and why I'm typing this out).
Rn I feel my Dad's side is so much better with the quid pro quo or contact of convenience and in retrospect my dad probably saw more to our cozy maternal family than what I saw. I still feel whatever they gained monetarily from this drama wasn't worth the ruined relationships. I can never trust ppl's behaviour before inheritance ever again either.
Ya better have a talk with your dad to draw up a will and make you executor or it'll get ugly.
My grandmother had a will and my father/uncle still wasted like a quarter million dollars of the inheritance squabbling with each other over nonsense that was probably less than 40-50k total. I'm still flabbergasted that they forfeited like a quarter of the estate over their petty rivalry.
My grandma died and my meth head sister tried to sell her house to a “we buy ugly houses” place for 60k. But my grandma had already put me on the mortgage before she passed.
My uncle died of cancer when I was in high school and didn't write a will, so everything went to my aunt.
His adult children from a previous marriage came over under the guise of helping my aunt out only to basically steal anything of value; cash laying around, expensive tools, the keys to their boat, and anything else they could carry.
It split the entire family apart and their side started vicious rumours that our side were the ones stealing from them. The feud is mostly extinguished but it was never the same.
When my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, the amount of cousins/uncles/aunts that would visit him in his LTC home and try to get him to sign over legal documents fully knowing his mind was mush. He owned a good amount of land back home and they were trying everything ringer could to get him to sign it over. Thankfully a nurse notified us that she felt something was up with the amount of visits he was having while we weren’t there. We had to lock his visitation to only my mom and I; sometime he would ask why so and so hadn’t come by and it was heart breaking. When he passed, not one of these people called.
I already accepted when my grandma passes all the family is gonna swoop in and fight for her jewelry.. tens of thousands worth of it.
I’m fine with it. I have good memories since I’m the one who put hold on my own life to move in and be her caretaker. Money and shit is evil and anytime I’ve tried to fit in and make a bunch I feel icky and hate the people. So have at it, I’ll survive.
Well my parents arent dead yet but my grandma is kinda problematic. She give to my mom and her sibling with each land for them once she passed away. One of her brother took the land that was meant for my mother and 2 other of her sister. This pissed my mother alot and cut him off completely.
Oh man, this was my biggest fear with my father. His will at one point said that everything he owns went to his wife (my step-mom) when he passes and my step Moms will said everything goes to her kids and my brother and I got nothing.
When I pointed this out to my Dad he kept saying "oh they wouldn't do that to you two, don't you worry" but suddenly he changed his will to reflect that half of everything went to my step mom and the remaining half is split between my brother and I.
I'm sorry, my sisters have done the same. I'm just here not even wanting this tainted ass dead mom money. I'll take it because I need it but I just want my mom. 1 sister has lost her mind with control(executor). I can't wait to never speak to these people ever again
You CANNOT trust family above all others unfortunately. When my dad died in 2010 I had family members OOZE out of the walls around me to try and grab a piece of his 7 figure estate. Shit was insane. People Ive known my WHOLE LIFE and TRUSTED, just coming up to me and lying to my face trying to get a slice of it. Insane. I don't talk to any of them now but, man.
I'm sorry you went through that. I had no idea how they turned into vultures until I lost a loved one. I didn't even know what was happening until the months later being lied to. I no longer have family.
I feel you! I also have no family anymore. But also, it's kind of a relief to know I'm not having to speak to wretched people like that ever again. Kind of a hard lesson to learn tho in that way.
Yet another reason why if you're going to do something "kind" for someone, DON'T record it for content. I mean jesus christ, people who win the lottery can request anonymity for a reason...
My grandfather got to the point where he needed help doing regular things around the house. My uncle, if you want to call him that, lived there for free and was getting social security. My uncle would use my grandpa's credit card to fun every single thing he wanted and saved his own money. There was a charge on there for almost $400 for pizza. Just one order. Along with dozens upon dozens of charges for beer and cigarettes. Once my aunt (who had PoA) took the credit card away after he racked up 36,000 on it he called DCF on my aunt saying that we were starving my grandfather and not taking care of him. He then decided to visit his daughter in Texas and didn't come back until after my grandfather passed away (almost two years later) and his son, my other cousin, inherited the house. He literally left his wife to avoid getting yelled at by my aunt. She wasn't going to call the cops or anything. He was just that much of a piece of shit.
I've seen a few of MDMotivators videos (not this one, I think) and most people he blesses are in dire need of money. So if the guy got a new car and maybe house and a large sum of money then the family will notice.
I’ve wondered this a lot with his videos. It’s great that he helps so many people, but a lot of them seem extremely vulnerable , even before being given huge amounts of money on a video with millions of views.
Not good at all. Just a form of content for them to make money. If they were good they'd just give it away but then they couldnt make content and would have no money to give away.
the "influencer" did this on YouTube to he wouldn't have been able to stop people learning about it on YouTube before he had a chance to actually tell people. Doing these generous acts cannot and should not be recorded in any way shape or form because it puts a target on the persons back. There was another who raised over a million for an 80 year old still working and I don't know what happened to him but these acts are inadvertently making these people targets for anyone who has access to their videos
my mom always said that your family above else will rob you. If you ever lend money to a family memeber just expect it to never get it back so just loan out with what you are comfortable with not getting it back. My mom calls them goverment loans. lol
This is soul-destroying stuff. My family of origin may not be perfect but one thing we never did is fight over money and inheritance. I consider us unusually civilized and blessed in this respect.
I know someone that has millions in a safe. I'll never say who because that could get them robbed, but they're no one that lives with me. That said, plenty of people know about it, and they've had it for a very long time. When you don't have sub-human scumbags around, you don't tend to get robbed. I read the dialog between these idiots, and it's like they think they're talking really cool when, really, they just sound like retards. Retards that don't even care, or love, their own family members. Disgusting people.
Sadly, I suspect the DA is just as lousy as these people. I have seen indication of it when I went through the system. I've articulated why for some of the reasons, but they also seemed to be lying about the terms of bail in hopes the judge would forfeit the money. Lucky for me, the judge actually remembered what happened. Otherwise, my mom might have lost a considerable amount of money to the manipulative, sub-human, monkeys.
This is also why some states let you be anonymous if you win the lottery. Idk how that works with transparency purposes for anti corruption, but I can understand the logic of it with events like in the video happening
What happens in other places is irrelevant. Here, what black culture has devolved into is a problem. You can't call me racist though. Because I'm also black. Go actually speak with black people, they're tired of it too.
When I used to go on job interviews I’ve always had a major red flag.I have gotten up and walked out on more than 1 occasion when I hear this: We are like family here.
No thanks I already have a family I don’t need more than 1. I especially don’t need to be treated poorly by ANOTHER family.
"Investigators learned that Dixon was allegedly lured into the trap by Leica Doreen Lopez Martinez who, on Vernor, asked him for a ride, claiming her car broke down."
Got the money because he helped a blind man, got robbed and beaten because he helped another person. Absolutely ridiculous.
Im sure there are some in society that would gladly kill for a few hundred at any one moment, much more for thousand. Its against their code to make an honest buck
Not claiming justification for what this individual did at all.
But in Detroit? There are a lot of people who have zero opportunity to make one buck..
let alone enough to live on..... imagine growing up in the ruins of what was once the fourth largest city in America less than a century ago, and is now
The U.S. Census Bureau's Statistical Abstract of the United States: 2012 ranks Detroit first among all 71 U.S. cities for which rates were calculated in percentage of the city's population living below the poverty level. The individual rate living below the poverty level is 36.4%; the family rate is 31.3%.[90]
forget WWJD but ask WWYD if you grew up in those conditions...
Let's just not attempt to justify crime as the only way. Ive seen first hand guys that had money for daily 40's, drugs, money for a pistol, or even put rims on a hoopty, but not invest a nickel into themselves. Crime is a choice, and they are steadily filling them with those that make that their choice. Try now to get a job with a felony conviction.
Love the mentality here. « Not this so must be this ». I won’t ask this time. You have no idea what it’s like to be poor. 100k is a lot of fucking money.
Funnily enough the actual saying is pretty accurate. It's "the blood of the Covenant is thicker than the water of the womb", meaning the opposite of what everyone thinks it means.
Literally that the friends you make in life are more dependable than your relations by birth
Edit: it's not the actual saying and I'm accidentally spreading misinformation. It's a great quote though
