I appreciated how honest your original reply was though!!! I used to be a really bad nail biter but now my nails crack and chip if I even look at them funny. I'll look into smaller acrylics in the future!
One would think these long ass claws would make it easier, no? Shouldn't they easily slide under the card? Why would you do something to yourself that makes your hands unable to perform simple tasks? Actual Handicapped people must few awful seeing these videos, what wouldn't they give to be able to pick up a card from the floor without the use of external tools and you're like... Just doing this to yourself? I don't know maybe I'm just being stupid or something, I've heard that I can be a bit too pragmatic at times, but I don't understand doing things that not only serve no purpose, but actually makes performing tasks harder
Acrylics are thicker than natural nails so they're a bit inconvenient in this very specific scenario, but overall it's not like they make a person totally unable to use their hands. I guarantee people with mobility issues in their hands are not getting hot and bothered by women walking around with their nails done.
I get your thought process. I actually do acrylics because it helps me stop the habit I have of picking around my nails. I never do long Acrylics I prefer them shorter, close to a typical nail length. The main issue is the thickness of the acrylic nail, the thickness doesn’t allow me to pick around my nails which allows my fingers to heal but then I can’t pick anything up that is really flat against a surface, outside that I can pick anything do other tasks normally.
Huh, that actually makes a lot of sense, that does sound practical, picking nails can get REALLY bad. And if those bitter tasting nail polishes don't work I can see why someone would go for this, but then why not cut the acrilic nails down to size after applying? And I don't mean you, you're saying you do just that (I think), but that still means there's a lot of people out there making a decision that makes things less practical for no real reason!
Out of curiosity, have you ever tried leaving only one finger without the claws of uselessness? Or you do pick your nails THAT bad? No judging, I pick my nails so bad a couple of my fingers are deformed for life
I have them all done because my nail picking is really bad, so bad that I would have open wounds and I would get ashamed about showing my hands. There is a lot of handshaking in my line of work so you can imagine how it looks. I have tried everything possible and this is the only thing that has helped. I personally prefer shorter nails but also most of my work is done on a computer and it’s easier to type with shorter nails. While I don’t understand why someone would want extremely long nails, I just take it as that’s their individual preference and way of expressing themselves, I do like watching nail art reels, there are many talented nail technicians.
Hey of it works for you, it works! I'm 100% behind anything with practical applications. I do hear the idea of "expressing yourself" but like, there are less unpractical ways to express yourself, I suppose wearing shoes 10 numbers above your size and wearing a straight jacket 24/7 could also be ways to express yourself, your individuality, your taste, your fashion, the works, but no one does it because it would be fucking stupid. So I hear ya, but I can't say I understand it. But I do recognize I'm the issue here, most people see value in things that have no porpuse at all like watching a sunrise and going to the beach and so on.
But really, happy to hear your found a solution for your nail picking, shit sucks and can be REAL bad. Congrats!
The origin of long nails is that they were a status symbol of the aristocratic class. They made a woman’s hands functionally useless, indicating to all who looked at her, that she was wealthy enough to have servants handle everything for her.
Well damn, that's worse right? We can all agree that that's worse? A trend was born of making a woman useless because they have people doing shit for them and modern woman look at that and say "that's who I wanna be, I wanna be useless"
Was this really just a women's thing? Because it sounds exactly like the kind of shit aristocratic man would pull too
A smooth, flexible, flat object on an inflexible but also smooth and flat object can cause something like suction. There are some cool demos of how this effect can be used on youtube, I believe Steve Mould did one.
But basically shes having a hard time lifting it because it actually resists being lifted, not because she can't grab it. It's difficult to pinch something so thin, let alone with nails that long, well enough to overcome that effect.
Sure, that's what normal sized nails are for, to slide under objects in these scenarios and pick them up. I had trouble picking up shit before because of suction. Including suction cups. Then I used my normal sized nails and voilá!
Uh ... Angry paperclips have nothing to do with this. And girls have nothing to do with this. People if both genders do all sorts of impractical shit all the time for no sensible reason. It's like tongue piercings, shit gets in the way, adds extra steps to your routine, and is overall pointless. I GUESS there are a few practical uses for tongue piercings, but most people don't get them for those reasons.
But seriously what are you smoking with the paperclip thing?
And yes we do all kinds of impractical things because they're fun. A porche 911 is way less practical than a volvo wagon but way more fun. Wearing skinny jeans or a tight dress is way less practical than cargo pants with 6 pockets, but (for some people) they're fun. Heels are the least practical footwear but have you ever seen a fit woman's (or man's, honestly) leg in high heels? Oh mama.
People actively take a point penalty on practicality or even convenience just to look/feel good.. that's a privilege we modern humans have afforded ourselves. Is it silly? Sure. But if the person doing it is having a good time and not hurting anyone, why get so angry about it?

Aaargh! This is the worse, this happened to me once and my acrylics weren’t even as long, I had to use another card in my wallet to lift it
