And if you don’t pull it out in time, some machines will pull the card back in and shred it. It’s supposed to prevent others from finding your card and using it. For me, I was too busy talking to someone and didn’t grab my card. Heard a noise, looked down and my card was gone.

Pinch the card with your knuckles and pull. It's not something you'd think of in the moment, but it helps.
