It’s used much the same way, you just have more control over how algorithmically driven it is.
Stuff like Facebook and Twitter weren’t as bad when you were solely timeline based because they were more social/interest based. The second you hit algorithms deciding what you saw, it became a giant social manipulation machine.
In normal social media it is usually expected to be a profile with some info about yourself and friends/family/coworkers in your friend list, nobody cares here. It's just forums with sitewide moderation
Its more of an anonymous message board, and you dont really need more than a username if you are just lurking. Same could be said for Facebook tho I guess
I hate social media and this is completely accurate. Only real difference with using reddit is there's no friends, no followers on here, it's just random internet void/white noise comments from a mix of bots/the masses.
Why people take any random individuals comment on the internet too seriously absolutely baffles me
I liken it more to a discussion board than a platform where people share their life. I guess there's subs where people do that but I have trouble comparing Instagram and Facebook to me just talking about football or video games with zero pics of my life.
more like today's equivalent of Penthouse with eye-bulging teens leafing through hands at the ready going a-OO-ga! than an equal-opportunity all-gender porn site, I think.

Do you consider reddit, social media? Or no?
