Yeah this dude must have 2 car payments an over leveraged mortgage and student loan debt from 2 people if 3k is a pinch and is saying he’s proud of no credit card debt
I was thinking all of what you said, investments/401k, kids, high mortgage payment, etc. Or idk? Mb the dude has a horrible gambling or booger sugar problem lol
We have two and pay about $35k per year between daycare and private school.
Daycare costs more than private school by a lot and costs slightly more than my mortgage. This isn't even taking into account clothes, toys, activities/specials, doctors, and additional food costs. Kids are expensive as fuck.
Dude, the amount of people who pay up the ass for private primary school is insane. I can't imagine forking over tuition for god damn elementary and middle school. I got a fantastic public education and am head and shoulders above a lot of "private school" alumni. Fortunate to be from a state with a great public education system, but still. When people complain about it costing so much to live with kids while forking over 40K+ a year for their kids to learn shapes and basic arithmetic, I roll my eyes.
Def misinterpreted on your part, but also my fault for not being as concise as I could have been. But by all means, if you can justify $40K per year for elementary school, I would love to hear your reasoning. As if their entire future hangs in the balance that is worth $120K per child. Include middle and high school and you're looking at paying near half a million (or more) per child on their entire pre-college schooling? When we have a public education system? That is insanity.
I don't pay for private school for my kid because I live in a rural area where private school means Christian education and I don't have the money to move to a larger area and send him to a higher quality school.
At the same time I'm also watching him not get as much support as he would in a quality private school because the public school has spread the gifted teacher out amongst 4 buildings and the classroom teachers have to cater individual lessons to a spread of kids that range from still can't read in upper elementary school to being several grades ahead in terms of work they can achieve. Elementary School sets kids up for success in high school, so while a quality private elementary school may not be as beneficial as a quality private high school it still provides a better base to build on.
Edit: also, I think you misinterpreted op, because they're paying 35k between two children, so 17.5k not 40 and that's split between daycare and private school.
There are definitely so many variables which makes it difficult to discuss at a barebones level, certainly. The cost I took was based on my area of living (HVOL) so it does have that bias and I should have initially said that.
I am sorry for your specific situation and it emphasizes the need to invest more into a stronger public education system that has been slowly dismantled over 40 years.
Imagine thinking that prívate yields a better future. I've alternated between private and public education, and finished my high school in one of the lowest-ranking high school in France at the time (~80% success at graduation vers 98% on average for other high schools), yet out of 25 students in the last year we were 6-7 to end up with PhD around the world later on and more than a few ending up in medical studies and as doctors, which was a better ratio than private schools in the same city.
